FootballGuys Post Combine Mock Draft (3 Viewers)

Travis Henry is available via trade if any team's are interested in acquiring a young, inexpensive, proven Pro Bowl RB.
:reported: ;)

That's not allowed. If Buffalo makes a trade while our draft is in progress we will adjust the picks at that time. Hopefully it won't mess up too many picks that have already been made.

I don't expect too many trades involving draft picks (in the 1st 4 rounds) over the next week or two anyways, so I think we will be able to work through it as they happen. I see Travis Henry and Patrick Surtain as the two most likely players to be traded where teams could pick up a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Right now, you can trade draft picks only. You are allowed to trade draft picks in future drafts...

This is real stupid IMHO!!!! How can you trade a 2006 draft pick for picks in this mock???? If thats the case i will give all my 2006 draft pick to whomever for all their picks for this mock!!!! Doesn't make sense at all....now players should be available for trade IMO......because at least it is something that effects this draft and who we pick. Trading picks from next years draft has no penalty......why would I want a first rounder for next year in this mock draft????? Vote on player trades please!!!!!

This is not a fantasy football draft dude... We do not win anything for putting together the best team...You are supposed to do what you think your team most likely would/should do. This makes it A) Realistic; and B) More importantly a useful tool to see what might happen on draft day.

Do you honestly believe the Colts would or should trade their entire draft next season in order to pick up a player this year?

If player trades are involved, all sorts of problems could arise when the player involved actually gets traded. Say I trade Patrick Surtain on here and get a 1st rounder from you for him. Then, 2 days later, say the Dolphins trade him in real life for the Chiefs 2nd rounder. Now what? I'd rather see what I would do with the 2nd round pick (that my team actually has) than with the 1st round pick that I was able to shark you out of on here...

I vote against player trades. Future picks are a balancing act and I agree that they need to be reasonable.

I am also strongly opposed...

Wow, I definately didn't think I'd be debating which of the two marquee QBs I want to take when the 5th pick rolls around. No coach is more enamored with young QBs than Gruden, so if one of either Rodgers or Smith is available at the 5th spot Tampa would jump, and quickly.1.05 Tampa selects Alex Smith QB UtahSmith is a tall guy who has not quite grown into his body (217 lbs) but is very athletic as witnessed by his QB-best 20-yard shuttle and 2nd best 3 cone time. Smith's arm strength may not be on par with Rodgers, but it isn't far off and he is the more intelligent of the two prospects. In fact, Smith's wonderlic score of 40 was the second highest score of all prospects. With the way Brian Griese's contract is structured, he can be released at the end of next year, or at the end of 2 years with minimal cap ramifications. This was conceivably to allow time for Simms to grow into the starter's role, but Gruden soured on Simms a bit last year when he made mental mistakes in his action against Arizona.I initially thought of going with Mike Williams, Ronnie Brown or Derrick Johnson at this spot, but if a blue-chip QB falls into your lap it's impossible to pass them up. Tampa can re-sign Galloway and Jurevicius and field a very capable receiving core, and I'm increasingly certain that Gruden is happy enough with a Pittman/Garner backfield that RB won't be a choice here.

We almost have enough votes to shorten the timer to 2 hours during the business day (10-6 EST, M-F). If we get a few more votes for that we can go ahead and make the change effective beginning tommorow (it wouldn't effect Colin's pick, since he is on the clock now).Since we haven't had a problem yet with people trying to take advantage of the trade extension, I see no reason to shorten that at this time...

The Titans happily shore up two of the biggest "trouble spots" on their team - short yardage running and kick returns.

RB - Carnell Williams

WHile Adam Jones certainly may well be the pick and was worth consideration, we're gambling that there will be some decent talent at Corner in round 2.

Williams is fantastic in short yardage - which has been a real problem in the last 2 years - and its our opinion, after seeing him at the combine, that his lack of receiving numbers have less to do with his talent and more to do with the coach's play-calling (see: Tomlinson @ TCU). We'll let Williams field kicks and then use he and Chris Brown (who already IS a good receiver) to throw teams off by having them on the field together a TON. As a byproduct, we'll be keeping Brown fresh as well. We envision Norm Chow's offensive schemes will use the strengths of both players, and having 2 talented guys touching the ball 60+% of the time (running plays, receiving plays, and returning kicks) is a good formula for us in the future.

Colin

And if the Colts do that at some point during our draft then you will reap the benefit and get to use whatever pick(s) they get for him.[Trading players] is not going to happen in this draft. If that is what you want then, do the work, start up your own mock and make your own rules. If you had read my original post before you signed up for the Colts you would have seen that the trading of players on your team is not allowed.

At this point in the draft -- after 5 teams have already picked -- changing this rule is not even an option even if the majority wanted it. And so far, with the exception of maybe Aaron, you are the only one who does. At least 3-4 other people in this have already said that they don't want it.

If you want out of this draft, you are welcome to leave. I'm sure someone else will be happy to step in and take over for your team. It's no big deal..

We can make it happen for our own drafts. As the Cards GM, I will assume that I make a trade for Henry after the NFL draft. I will draft for the Cards as if Henry is a part of my team. You draft for the Bills as if Shelton is on yours. It doesn't effect anyone elses draft so why not?

Interesting Pick COlin. I love it.
I am absolutely 100% convinced that if he's there when they pick, they need to select him. CB is a great need, yes. If there were any good Olineman, they would be worth consideration too. But they can literally have the ball in Brown or Williams's hands 60+% of the time if they have both guys, and Chow is smart enough to get the most out of both like he did at USC with 2 talented runners. THe Titans need to get better on returns and short-yardage situations, and I'm convinced that its Williams who can do it.Colin

FWIW, I don't care about this. It is the trading of players for draft picks in this draft (1st 4 rounds) that I don't want...If you guys are wrong, it doesn't adversely affect this draft...

Agreed.... I just don't want to see Surtain for the Chiefs 2nd round pick type of trades.

Whoa don't get so defensive here pal! :hophead: So what you are saying is if James gets traded to the dolphins in real life for their first round pick and a player, than I can have your #2 pick and the choice of anyone in the draft except Williams (because he was selected first) that has possibly already been taken by another team and essentially change the entire draft??? TIA for clearing this up!!!!!

That trade is money for the Browns. If that deal was to go down on draft day, Savage would be moving again right now or taking one of two players still on the board, no question.

Yes, this is how it would work -- but that trade will never happen, so don't get too excited yet. If something like this happens, then we can pause the draft and go back pick-by-pick and see if anyone wants to change their selection based on your pick at #2. Sounds like it would be painful and take a long time, but I think we could get through it quicker than you might think. A lot of the picks might not change. Also, the possibility of a trade prior to the draft for a pick in the top 5-10 is almost nil.I got defensive when you said, "This is real stupid..." ;)

Is what GBN has correct? I just posted that since it was different.
I got no idea... Where I got mine from looked pretty outdated (still had Leinart projected to go 1st), so I figure yours is closer than what I had...If anyone has a GOOD source for this please post it and I'll update the front page...

TIA

See the bold in your post!!!! I agree and what the Colts should/will do is trade Edge for draft picks.

OK....so we are on the same page then!!

I've added sort of a draft ticker in the subtitle of this thread... I'll try to keep it updated with the most recent 3 picks that have been made. This makes it easy to get a snap shot of the latest picks without having to enter the thread. Not much room, so I can't get too detailed with team names or anything, but I think this is a nice feature.

Yikes--this is ugly. No way the first 6 picks look like that.
Probably not, but even most of the Mocks I see can't agree on a top 6.This draft will be nothing but surprises.

True. But a lot of these choices don't make any logical sense at all. Miami passing on a back to give Lamar Gordon a chance?? Tampa Bay drafting a QB? Tennessee drafting a RB in the first round (rather than a later-round backup to Brown)?None of those things will happen.

(Miami may pass on a back--but only if they bring in a real one via FA/trade)

Agreed on if Miami passes on a RB, but there will be RB's worth grabing in the 2nd or 3rd rounds for Miami. This draft isn't just 3 RB's deep.I also liked Colins argument for Williams and I'm also not sold on Turf Toe Brown.

Nor Griese and Simms for TB.

If Alex Smith falls to #5 Tampa will draft him. Teams don't always draft for need, if the guy who many suspect will go #1 overall falls to #5 he will be taken in a heartbeat. Tampa picked Chris Simms in the third because they couldn't believe he fell so far. Gruden has stated all along that the team will bring 4 QBs to camp, right now they have 3 and they will probably draft one.

Are you drafting for these teams now? Fisher has given every indication that he's sold on Brown. Griese was one of the best-performing QBs in the league after he took over, on a team without many offensive weapons. Both teams have much bigger needs. TN will probably take a CB, and TB will grab a RB or WR.

I don't expect that Smith will fall to #5, but if he does and TB takes him, it likely won't be for themselves. Smith is way overrated at this point and I expect Gruden knows that.

No I'm not drafting for them during the real draft and neither is anyone else here. I'm just stating that there are so many possibilities than can happen so it is foolish to say for sure what one team will do and won't do and get upset over it. Even after the real draft there will be picks that don't makes any sense at all. It happens every year. As long as the people here who are making the picks give a sound reason for why they took so-and-so player, I don't see what the problem is. If you want to nitpick and bash them all, then make up your own mock draft. No use crying about it here.

Looking to trade down from the #10 slot, but don't wanna go any lower than 18 or so (this is negotiable)....Make me an offer I can't refuse via PM.

Nothing wrong with Colin's pick. Word is that the Titans are definitely looking at a RB at #6. I think they are more interested in Benson ( :X ), but who knows?

This is the worst mock i have seen yet. :)

and its only through 6 picks
This thing will probably be closer to the truth than we all realize, LOL. I have a feeling there's going to be some shockers in the real draft this year. Also, keep in mind this is about what we would do as GM. I don't see much sense in trying to duplicate exactly what we THINK will happen. It wouldn't be accurate, anyway. Plus, if we did that, we may as well just do individual mocks (maybe a mock contest or something).

This board cracks me up with worst mock yet stuff. This year more than any other the top 5 is up in the air.
For starters, i know the draft is very unpredictable, and ANYHING can happen, but some of you guys are trying a little too hard to be different. For starters, there is NO WAY SF trades down to 12, they may trade down, but not that far. What is almost as unlikely, is the Chargers trading up to #1 to take Edwards. Also, Miami and Tampa both passing on one of the top 3 RB's, with the Titans and Bears taking them, HIGHLY unlikely.

Accuracy is an unattainable goal when using the parameters we have for this mock draft. Teams are not allowed to trade rostered players for picks, and you have a limited amount of time so you can't wait for weeks for another team/GM to make you a better offer than the one you have in front of you. If the 49ers GM was on the clock and wanted to trade it, chances are he took the best deal he could get from the Chargers here. You need 2 people for a trade to go through. The trade they made wasn't THAT far off when considering there is no clear top-rated player this year. Heck, I bet 90% of the posters on this board will get fewer than 50% of the 1st round picks correct. This is just for fun. Not sure why people feel the need to bash it as if 32 different people can somehow predict what 32 NFL teams will do with any degree of accuracy.

If you just want people here to imitate everything they've read elsewhere and make a mock that looks identical to nearly every other mock out there, I'm guessing that you opened the wrong thread. Plenty of other threads out there that will attempt to do that.

To make up for using all of my time at #3, I'll make this one early. :D Cleveland has many holes and could go almost any direction here with legit prospects at RB, QB, WR, OL, LB, CB.I have always held the belief that the battle is won in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Cleveland has notoriously been lacking in real tackle talent and uses converted guards. Alex Baron is a specimen although a bit raw in his run blocking, his pass protection is superb (Dilfer is happy camper). Romeo brought in Jeff Davidson to coach the line after doing a bang up job in NE. He is drooling to work with this kid. Andruzzi will also bring his leadership and show these kids what it takes to be a champion.Kiper ranks him a 93 and states that with dedication on his part, Baron could be a perenial pro-bowler. Thats what I'm counting on.****************************************************************I almost took Pacman here. The FA signing of Baxter added to the deep corner pool this year makes this possible.QB...We need to see what our rookies McCown and Harris bring to the table before casting them off. Provide a solid O-line and a good run game to go with some pretty good targets in Winslow, Bryant, Northcutt and Davis and you have the recipe for some Dilfer success and 2nd year QB grooming. (I hope!)

I was not "Bashing", and i know it is just for fun, but because it is just for fun, and people will be trying to be different, this draft will be farther off what actually happens than in most "expert" mock drafts.

I'd bet 100% don't.The only way I see anyone getting better than 50% is if they pick as the draft goes so they can adjust.

Just look at last year's draft contest. I think 9 or 10 correct won the thing.
