Footballguys TV (1 Viewer)

Hey everyone,Glad folks are enjoying the show! We worked really hard to hit the ground running, and it's gratifying to hear that it's going over well so far. One down, many more to go. :goodposting: A couple quick notes:1) Though David gives me much of the credit, a lot of the look of the show is the work of the actual cinematographer/editor/graphic designer of the show, Jim Webb, an outstanding visual artist here in Austin, TX. I handle all the the producing and directing duties, but Jim is amazing when it comes to the technical implementation.2) As David noted, the show is owned and paid for by ONnetworks.com, so that's why it isn't branded as a full footballguys product. But they have really enjoyed working with footballguys, and ON's products have worldwide reach, so hopefully we'll be bringing even more people to the FBG community via the show. Thanks again everyone!marc
Still seems to be you guys could get some branding or promo time up front -- even a mention/graphic of "footballguys.com" early on would be huge.
Hey Otis,As the guy who works with both FBG and ON, I understand that this can be a tricky line to walk. However, the show is definitely ON's -- they pay for it and distribute it in all its formats; heck, even the streaming player itself that makes the show look good is a proprietary tool they created. They love working with FBGs, though -- both in front of the camera with Sig and Cecil and behind the scenes with awesome guys like Keith. And I think this kind of arrangement helps everybody. FBG gets a fun show for the site and their hosts/writers get a whole 'nother level of exposure, while ON gets access to the best fantasy community on the planet -- you guys.

Echo all positive sentiments above. A great start indeed. :goodposting:

I could see this easily blossoming into a half hour show. Way to stay off the fence guys and tell us how you see it; all other shows/podcasts are "I like Manning in the First Round, or Steven Jackson looks good this year"

I'm sure there are some fine lines and all kinds of contractual issues, but I guess I just didn't see where the harm is in it for them to include a brief graphic here or there? Obviously I know nothing about the relationship and am speaking in a vacuum, but it's just one thing that jumped out at me and sort of had me shuked at first.

Nice job guys.

My biggest suggestion is that you need to get a feed compatible with the most popular online video player/aggregator. And that is Miro (the old Democracy player).

Miro is found here: http://www.getmiro.com/

And here is the page with info on how to make a feed compatible with it: http://www.getmiro.com/create/

Basically you just need to format the RSS feed properly or make a separate feed for Miro.

Think of Miro as the Tivo of the online video world where you can subscribe to shows, it will auto download them and so forth. Once you set this up then you will have a Footballguys "Channel".

Please make this happen as it will be soooooooo much easier to watch the show.

Thanks! And stay classy. :goodposting:

EDIT: The RSS feed has no enclosure, thus the video file isn't attached to the RSS feed. So I can't even grab it with a regular podcatcher.

see post #29 in this thread for David's excellent and informative answer to my questionwhich was basically the same as yours.

PS I have to agree, Cecil needs to lose the "What's Happenin" hairdo - you're white, get over it already

I love White people!!!!!!!!!!!!I am Big Mex, half white, half mexican, all footballguy.
Big Mex! First off, great show (again)! Where do you guys find the time for all the content, podcasts and now this?Second, with all of your talking about being a big guy, I was expecting John Candy. You are svelte my friend!

Third....

Separated at birth.... Big Mex & Kid

Now that qualifies as "Brotha's from different Motha's"!

Keep up the great work, but shave the noggin!

David could this lead to weekly longer or half hour shows during the season about weekly rankings and WSIS, pick up type stuff?
One never knows where this will all lead, but the current buzz in the entertainment industry is DEMAND TV. Short clips that people can download to their Video Ipods, Iphones, etc. On Networks is one of the premier companies leading this charge with shows on Golf Techniques, Cooking, World of Warcraft, Stock Tips, and now Fantasy Football. Last year, ABC's hit TV show Lost had something like 23% of the people watch the show at a different time because they recorded it to their DVR. These people then generally fast-forward past the commercials and watch it when it's convenient for them. DEMAND TV fits the new paradigm. People want quick takes. They want something to do while they have a few free minutes in their lives. We are becoming the Iphone generation and believe shows like this are EXACTLY what people want. And advertisers are feeling the same thing. They want to be associated with these hit shows. So at least for the near future, we think we are positioning ourselves correctly by being partnered with a great company in On Networks. It's possible that this turns into a longer show at some point, but it's also possible that On Networks just produces more short shows. Either way, we are happy to get our foot in the door and we will continue to do our best within the five minutes we are allotted each week.
very cool. and i wish you luck on your lastest endeavour here..congrats to all invloved.

The Five Minute Drill

Footballguys has partnered with ON Networks and we're proud to announce the debut episode of The Five Minute Drill, the fastest-paced fantasy football TV show on the planet. Each week, Footballguys Cecil Lammey and Sigmund Bloom will be delivering insights and analysis in rapid-fire fashion. It's the kind of thing you've come to expect from us.

The series kicks off today with our RB Draft Special, the first of three preseason draft strategy sessions.

We'll have an episode ready for you each Wednesday, but this week we couldn't hold back and we're kicking the show off a day early. We hope you enjoy the premiere, and be sure to check back every Wednesday for the latest from The Five Minute Drill!
Very Impressive! What program did you guys use for the graphics?Tex

Get rid of the digital background behind the guys talking. Looks cheap. Reminds me of really bad videos from the early 80's. I was half expecting some Technotronic song to start blasting in the background.

He has to get rid of that high-top fade.edit: Rest was really well-done
I have to agree with Cappy. That hairdo was just mezmerizing. I couldn't even pay attention to the show. That said, the dude had a good voice, and certainly knew his stuff. The graphics were a little young MTV-ish, but I am sort of a snob for that stuff.I'm going back and watching it a second time.Thumbs up like usual. You guys put out awesome stuff.

As a guy who does computer graphics for a living, let me just say that

a production like this has every chance to be over-the-top cheap and cheesy,

trying to throw every photoshop lens flare filter and giant bevelled text in your

face every chance they get.

But the guys kept it pretty simple and didn't go over the top with the sports

graphics junk. And kudos for not putting a Fox-esk "WHOOSH" sound every

time a graphic brought us from one segment to the next. Good restraint there.

And the "upgrade", "downgrade" and "injured" helmet graphics were good,

simple icons that did their job very well.

The 3D football title animation isn't film quality effects but still absolutely appropriate

for the broadcast.

Solid work overall.

First, great piece and nice video quality! Second, I've got to go with Otis. At minimum, they should be able to add "...quarterbacked by CL and SB of Footballguys.com " That's not promotion -- it is attribution and actually adds credibility. It would be great to have the words superimposed on each of you when you start talking - just like if you were doing a news segment - but at least go for the audio! That isn;t something you should have to work up to with ON.

Awesome segment! I have a few feedbacks to offer:

1. Cecil showed a lot of energy and his body language conveyed that he was passionate about the topic he discussed.

2. Sigmund, show a little bit more enthusiasm by utilizing some body language. Having read many of your postings, I feel that your expertise will eventually shine in 5 minute drill.

3. I'm Deaf and it is quite challenging trying to read lips because only 25% of English language is visible on the lips. It would be great if you guys consider the possibility of adding captioning to your segment sometime in the future. I do have resources on getting captioning services which I would be more than happy to share with you. I know of at least 300 Deaf guys who play FFL throughout the nation especially 50 of us who play in seven Minnesota Deaf FFL leagues and there are plenty more FFL Deaf dudes out there that I haven't met yet. A possible target market for you to consider marketing your product to...

4. $20.95 on Footballguys.com subscription= priceless! :goodposting:

Info was great-production was cool-FBG on the cutting edge again.

 I didn't "see" anything that added to the information presented.

Being a video format I would like to "see" something that would add to the information presented.

If I closed my eyes I wouldn't have missed a thing. (Maybe a FBGirl, Franknbeans could do a poll to select one)

If Cecil's hair doesn't add anything for you, you need to get out more.

Wow. Color me impressed with both the production work and the content.

Far too often, most of the online FF video segments scattered throughout the web are borderline unwatchable. Rarely do they offer anything other than rehashed information and blurbs that most folks viewing likely already know. Often the hosts appear uncomfortable with the entire premise. But this was different.

The production looked great and the content offered up some outside the box thinking. I thought the delivery of both Cecil and Sigmund was enthusiastic without seeming forced. You guys should be proud.

All in all, a very impressive effort.

Thanks again, everyone! I'm firmly on-board with Lammey's unique 'do  , but all the comments have been really valuable.

Simris,I totally see what you mean. During the regular season, we'll be using the right-hand info for stats, upcoming matchups, etc. for the players being discussed -- things Cecil/Sig won't necessarily be talking about explicitly. Would that move us more into a useful area for you? Also, any thoughts you'd have about what you'd like to see onscreen during the preseason specials are more than welcome!

Exactly. I 'see' the same problem on TV a lot of times FWIW.Glad you are thinking along those lines. As far as what I would like to see, anything that supplements/supports the verbal points being made.Even full cut-aways for making points would be welcome. Not sure what they would be, it would depend on the point being made. For instance, if you were doing a spot on match-ups to avoid/exploit you could cut to a graph/visual representation of the names of key positional players that would back up your point. i.e. (Manning vs Denver secondary where Bly/Bailey pass defended/ints stats were highlighted vs. Mannings passing stats. You could do pulsing colors on the stats timed with your audio points. Do some study on NLP and teaching to different modalities to make your points to visual, auditory, and emotional informational processers.I work in the area of presentation and adult learning theory. PM me if you want some more info.

I don't know why everyone is so worked up over his haircut. I'm more concerned about all of the PETA people that they're going to have protesting.

Great job on the show though guys. It looks very professional and of course the content is great as well. :blackdot:

can someone who knows FF explain to me why kid n play are down on addai
That was the most glaring and noteworthy thing in the show. They were heavily down on Addai. And to think I was thinking of targeting him for pick #5.
Addai is not built to be an everydown, all-game feature back. He's been part of a committee for his entire career. He's a fine a late first round pick, but taking him ahead of guys like Henry, Parker, Gore, Alexander, Larry Johnson (now that it looks like he'll sign) is reaching imo. All of those guys have proven they can hold up while being the bell cow. Addai is also not the most ideal short yardage runner. Manning called his own number at the goal line almost as often as Addai scored from inside the five last year. If I'm picking an RB in the top half of the first, he better be the first option when the team gets within striking distance.
