Former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe Assassinated (1 Viewer)

Shootings are incredibly rare in Japan with their gun laws.

That said, this would still be shocking in the US. Would be like Obama getting shot.

If they can get to a former Japanese PM in Japan with a gun, they can get anyone. This is going to be a scary decade even with the 2 years we've already had.
I'm not sure of the motivation behind the suspect, but on an unrelated note look at Sri Lanka.  They are chasing the politicians through the streets.  Things get real very quickly when people have no fuel or food.

Japan isn't Sri Lanka and from what I understand, Abe was liked by the Japanese people.

who is "they"?
He was very outspoken against China and communists is general. The shooter was supposedly Korean. Haven't seen that confirmed though.

Eta. I see the post above saying shooter was Japanese. Still very sketchy how he got a gun in Japan and access to the former PM to be able to pull this off.

Ex-Japanese Navy with a homemade gun.

From story I heard on radio there is near zero shootings in Japan, think they said 14 last year. Tokyo had zero.

Shocking story to say the least.

In the years before World War II, Japanese politicians were assassinated all the time. Literally during the 1920s and 30s ministers were murdered on an almost monthly basis- even the Prime Minister. So this is in their history. But of course it hasn’t been that way since 1945…

Of course they are, so is Russia.  Johnson quits and now this.

Saw how the home made gun was made on the news this morning.  Pretty simple.
Shotgun shell booby traps / perimeter alarms are pretty common in survival skills.

You can either use a simple trip Wilderness Perimeter Alarm (5th Ops makes a nice one that works with 12ga, 308, 22lr, etc)  to set off the 12 gauge shell fairly harmlessly (but will scare the #### out of the intruder, AND let you know they're around).

OR you can integrate steel conduit pipe to direct the charge and turn it into a booby trap to shoot whatever triggered the trip wire. Good for survival hunting (in areas you're comfortable there's no humans around)... or for security (scenario dependent)

It used to be considered murder if a property owner set up booby traps and it killed someone. Has that changed?

It is, which is why I said it is scenario dependent. This is more for SHTF / Wilderness Survival use... not really practical in 99.999% of daily life.

That said... simply using option 1 is very viable as it is very unlikely to hurt anyone, but will be very effective at scaring them off or putting them on your radar.

Got it, thanks GB. :)

Watched the video and it's so surreal to see the lack of reaction to the first shot. Security just standing there, a few glance that direction. Abe himself doesn't even respond. The 2nd shot got him.

Setting a booby trap capable of being lethal is a felony, even on your own property.   If you kill someone with it it's felony murder.

Apparently in some states (Texas), if you would have been able to use lethal force in self-defense, you can use that in defense of the murder charge.  But that's a weird exception, since you'd have to be in imminent danger of bodily harm, meaning you're home but you still have booby traps armed.

I wasn't talking so much about Japan, as I think the guy I quoted was talking more general.

As far as Abe, usually an assassination causes more support for their party anyways.
