Former Louisville RB Bush undergoes surgery

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Former Louisville running back Michael Bush underwent surgery Tuesday on the leg he broke during the first game of last season.

Bush, who entered the upcoming NFL draft and passed up his senior year of eligibility, had a new rod inserted and was expected to be released from a Louisville hospital on Wednesday, spokesman Rocco Gasparro said.

Gasparro said Bush sought another medical opinion when his bone didn't heal quickly enough. He's expected to be out another couple of months and won't be able to work out Monday during Louisville's pro day, Gasparro said.

Bush decided to skip his senior eligibility season, despite playing in only one game as a junior. In his sophomore year, Bush ran for 1,183 yards and an NCAA-leading 23 touchdowns.

He scored three touchdowns in the first half of the season-opener against Kentucky last year before breaking his leg early in the second half.

The Cardinals went on to finish 12-1, beating Wake Forest in the Orange Bowl.

 :(

This happened to me my senior year. Had to insert a rod in my Humorus (sp?). The surgery wasn't all that bad. I was outta commission for a couple of months and then when they removed the rod I was out of commission for about another 1-2 weeks. Shortly there after I started some fairly intense rehab (also broke both of my legs)....

While I had him pegged as the #3 RB, I don't see how he can be even a 2nd rounder given his current condition.

3rd rounder may even be too much to hope for.

All other RBs should be bumped up in the draft and for rookie fantasy drafts -- as I am sure this means that a team will likely play it safe with Bush and give him plenty of time to heal.

Obviously you probably didn't have the kind of medical staff that these guys have but how long did it take you to feel completly healed? Or full Strength?

Sounds like good news for Norwood owners considering the speculation of Atlanta taking Bush in the 2nd round on this board.

:) Nah. Now they can steal him in the 5th or 6th round. :lmao: Has there ever been an NFL RB that had a steal rod in his leg and be successful?

Actually it probably means he will fall to ATL in the 2nd without question now, making it that much easier for them to take him.ATL knows how Bush runs. They don't need a pro day unlike every other team. There's no doubt he's going to them in the 2nd round IMHO.

now down to 22 in the Bloom 100 and 9 on Bloom's RB rankings. Lammey dropped him to 12 his RB ranks - Baca's move is coming.

This could only be the beginning of his slide. If he ends up being a 6th or 7th round pick in April, he will plummet in the 100. I am looking for an early 2nd day pick to reassure us that some team still thinks theres a good chance he'll be ok.

for fantasy purposes i would love to see this. could be had for a late 2nd round rookie pick.

I agree. A second day pick is probably more likely. I would think a team that has the luxury of placing him on the PUP for the 1st season (ala what the Bills did to McGahee) would be a team that might make a move for him in round 4 or later.

If no team wants to touch him until the picks in the 200s, chances are you don't either. I would probably drop him to the 40s or 50s at that point. I have him as a late 2nd right now assuming an optimistic report on his prognosis.

True but a guy like this getting passed until the 200s creates a dangerous weapon.Motivation to prove self worth.

Or go into depression and get fat and out of the NFL within 2 years. Definitely will be a test of character to see how he reacts if indeed he does drastically drop.

This was also 15 years ago, but to give an example, I had Rods in my Femurs as well and once I had the rods removed I was walking that very day. Not well, but I was able to walk....

This is the type of news that creates risk/reward decisions for all FF players. I now believe I'll have an option of grabbing Bush at 1.10 - 1.12 in some of my leagues. Whether I choose to exercise that option remains to be seen . . .

I would love to see the Chargers get him and take Turner's backup job next year.
