Posted by Michael David Smith on November 21, 2010, 10:48 AM EST

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Lytle was brought to the Emergency Department at Memorial Hospital in Fremont, Ohio on Saturday with symptoms of a heart attack. While at the hospital, Mr. Lytle went into massive cardiac arrest and died.

Lytle was an All-American at Michigan and finished third in Heisman Trophy voting in 1976. The Broncos selected him in the second round of the 1977 draft, and he played seven seasons in Denver, finishing his career with 376 carries for 1,451 yards and 61 catches for 562 yards.

Dang, that is young. T&P to the family.

I've spent some time in Fremont (his hometown) on business. Tough break for the community, he was a great guy by all accounts.

As an Ohio State fan, I can count the number of Wolverines I liked on one hand. He was one of the select few though. Loved the way he ran. Tough competitor, and just a winner. Tragic to hear of his death.

Every time I see his name the very first thing I think of is the non-fumble call in the 1977 AFC Championship Game against the Raiders.
