Forte/Langford RBBC (1 Viewer)

Figured I'd combine the separate Forte and Langford threads into one with more relevance going forward.

Very even split as expected last night, with both guys getting looks at the goal line. Langford was more adept at the stripe, but also had a few bad drops. Winning does cure all though, and time will tell if that the even RBBC will remain the ROS - certainly seems that way.

Forte owners have to be happy that he made it back and escaped further injury. That said, what has made Forte so valuable over time is his sizable workload, particularly as a pass catcher - so this RBBC hits his ROS value quite a bit.

Langford owners, on the other hand, have to be happy that he will probably have stand alone value, even if his workload drops from his time as a starter.

If you own both - like me - you have a quagmire over who to start. Maybe even both in desperation.

Thoughts on the situation going forward?

I think the the "rbbc" will be over once Forte is fully healed.
You are hoping only. That was not what was reported yesterday, and more importantly, not what actually happened during game time. Langford has looked just as good as Forte except catching the ball, where Forte is clearly a superior receiver.

I could be mistaken, but I don't think a guy that sprained his MCL less than a month ago is fully healed.

I think Forte will turn into the guy between the 20's with Langford getting the red zone and especially the goal line work.

Wishful thinking. Langford isn't going away. He's their starting running back next year. No one looked great receiving the ball last night. Green Bay or Chicago. The weather was horrible. Langford has been terrific in the passing game. He also averaged 4 yards a carry on 11 carries while Forte only managed 2.9 on 14 carries. I see an even split going forward. Especially if Chicago stays in contention. I don't see a 'loyalty ribbon' given to Forte as long as Longford is so productive. He has 5 TDS in his last 4 games.

Yes, Langford averaged more yards per carry in Forte's first game back from an MCL sprain. Participation trophy indeed.

Come to think of it, I hope Langford is the Bears' RB next season.

It would be nice to see Forte on a decent team.

I mentioned earlier that New England might be a good landing spot. Dion Lewis is coming off an injury and Blount is a free agent. Forte is versatile plus seems to be a high character guy, which bellichick likes. If he's willing to sign a one or two year contract, that might be a nice fit.

Terrific in the passing game? Dude

he's had a few drops, but two of them were in that downpour last night. Ask Cobb and Adams how easy it was to catch the ball. He's also had a 30+ yard diving catch against San Diego and the 70 yard touchdown catch against St Louis. He was also known as a very good receiver at Michigan State. Forte is one of the best in the game. So im not saying Langford is better than him. But he's also a receiving threat and will be one of the leagues best next year.

I hope you're right

So what are people thinking of the split this Sunday against the 49ers?

The win against the Packers probably gave the team some fleeting playoff hope. Nothing more than a gut feeling, but if Forte is back to full strength, I think that Fox will ride him next week with Langford as a change of pace. The weather conditions in Soldier Field could play a big factor here, too.

As mentioned in the OP, I have no bias given that I own both dogs in the fight.

FWIW, this was just announced a few hours ago: http://www.chicagobears.com/news/article-1/Forte-nominated-for-Man-of-Year-award/fe00a9c5-e810-44fd-9eb9-9ffc21aa2c64

Maybe another reason why Fox throws the vet a bone.
Has no relevance to on field action imo. Until Langford fumbles or does something bad it will be a50 50 split. Even forte has been agreeable to the current arrangement based on his quotes from last week
Probably not - just trying to convince myself to start Forte over Langford and West.

In reality, Fox is going to be play the guy(s) that gives him a chance to win. As noted, they're only a game out of the wildcard.

Historically, that would lean towards Forte since Fox typically trusts his veterans. But at the same time, I can't imagine that Fox will ignore what Langford has done. He's had a few bad drops in the passing game, but he's been pretty good securing the ball while running it.

I think this is a fair assessment.

I think the Green Bay game was easing Forte in a bit. Langford isn't going away, but I think the 50-50 talk is nonsense, as Forte gets further removed from injury, he'll get more work. I think this will eventually be a 2-1 type split come fantasy playoff time, especially if Chicago stays in the wild card hunt. The bottom line is, other than breakaway speed, Forte is a superior player in every possible way.

I think they should have thrown the red flag on the play where they claimed forte was down at the one.
I was pissed about that one. Also, isn't Forte a FA at the end of the year?
Yes, but then again so is Ivory, Doug Martin, Lamar Miller, Alfred Morris, Blount, and CJ Anderson. Add in 2 very good rookies coming out. I'd love to see him in New England, but that may be wishful thinking.

You're 100% certain of this? Are you part of the Bears coaching staff?Fortes first game back wasn't even a "50/50" split.

It was close. Forte had 15 carries for 44 yards, and Langford had 12 carries for 48 yards. They each caught one pass. I think Langford dropped one or two.
Yeah, that was about as close to a split as you're going to get. I see similar usage this week.
But it looked like Langford got the goal-line carries so I still might start him over Forte. Plus Langford has the better chance to turn his swing pass into a big play.

Growing up in Charleston, SC, the relative close proximity of the Carolina franchise ensured that I often ended up with a few Panthers on my fantasy team(s). Though the backfield was usually quite productive, I was always a little bit frustrated to end up with a Panthers RB because of the way the carries were split. In the late 2000's, when Fox was there and when the backfield was occupied by both DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, it was always a bit of a gamble as to who the best fantasy RB would be on a given weekend. I can't help but to think that, with now two certifiable studs in Chicago's backfield, we are headed in that same direction. Add to that the already expressed willingness of Forte to share the load, and it seems to me that while Forte will get the most carries going forward, we are probably looking at total number of touches in the high teens/low 20's rather than the high 20's. That still makes Forte a beast!
