I hate the whole idea of hate crimes. A crime is a crime.
I agree with this, theoretically.  there are probably practical/reality reasons I haven't considered.

regardless, if we're going to have them, apply them consistently to everybody.
Yep

asking seriously. I am not interested in watching the that crap it's disgusting. But have you seen what "fans" have done to each other after games in the name of the local ball club?
Just stop.

We don't know their political affiliation, but we know their political hatred, which is what I said.  They clearly hate Trump.
Why?

What has Obama done for Chicago?  What would Clinton have done for Chicago? What has Emmanuel done for Chicago? I am not for any side but at least Trump is trying to reach out.     JFC....

I think his history of participating in racially discriminatory housing practices, among some other things, has made the black community somewhat wary of him.  There are also a lot of black Muslims in some cities, which may be an issue given his discussions of that religion.  Not sure what Chicago's black Muslim population is like.  Oh, and the KKK was pretty vocal about supporting him in the campaign. And he spent about 8 years questioning the legitimacy of the first black president.

Basically, a bunch of stuff kind of combines to make him not very palatable to many in the black community.

I was last in here around page 2, skimmed the last page and a half - exactly the stupid ####### disaster and insanity I'd expect.

Simple summary:

- Scumbags kidnap mentally challenged individual

- He is held against his will and tortured

- They stream it in on FB

- They yell racist things while doing this

1)  Hate crime committed by lowlifes 2) Kidnapping 3) Awful 4) Hopefully 50 years in jail at a minimum

Anyone who disagrees with anything above is a gigantic moron.

really should be /thread

Pretty much.

Yet he did better with blacks than both Romney and McCain did.  I think the better explanation is that Democrats have a strangle hold on the black community based on 55 years of policies that have created an unhealthy dependency on big government.  They promote Trump as a racist because of redlining that his company took part in only a few years after it became illegal - and over 40 years ago.  Yet when they are asked about Hillary having as her mentor a former KKK Grand Wizard, they are quick to point out that Byrd's affiliation with the KKK was ancient history.

I think blacks are on to this level of bull#### with the Democratic Party.  They have run cities like Chicago and Baltimore into the ground.  Trump has a real opportunity to better the lives of blacks by creating better economic opportunities.  I hope he succeeds because the dependency model hasn't worked.

Gee, I wonder why fewer black people voted republican in 2008 and 2012 than in 2016.

Im going to take a shot in the dark and that that it might have a little something to do with A BLACK GUY WAS RUNNING FOR OFFICE IN 2008 AND 2012.

Prison forever imo. No benefit to having these animals loose in society among decent people.

With respect to these perpetrators, do you really think these folks were that forward thinking that their actions were gonna be a wedge point in an agenda?

They're more like most 18 year olds i know, unfailingingly and almost staggeringly stupid when it comes to simple common sense like DONT BROADCAST AN ASSAULT ON FACEBOOK

i just don't see them as the architects of a movement.
That's not what I'm saying. These are absolutely stupid 18 year olds. What I'm criticizing is the culture and leadership that instigates racial tensions knowing full well that some idiots will take it too far. They are willing to live with the collateral damage that their rhetoric leads to.

This is one of those times when folks on a certain side of the aisle need to take the high road.  This was a horrific incident that deserves vigorous prosecution.  It also has nothing to do with Obama or BLM, and it's no more indicative of anti-Trump folks than Dylan Roof is of anti-Obama folks.  These are just some evil nutbag outliers.

One thing I actually found interesting in the portion of the video I watched is the moment of humanity you could see in the girl's face when she realized her little sister was watching and posting that it all wasn't funny.  It was really sad to see that moment pass so quickly.

The parents dropped the kid off to hang out with one of the guys who was charged. They were supposedly friends. Things obviously got way out of hand and some really stupid things happened. 18 year old kids can be morons. They should obviously face criminal charges but 50 years? Cmon.  At the end of the day it's a few kids who operate on an elementary school level not thinking through the ramifications of their actions with a couple of nitwits cheering them on. Unlucky for them they streamed it and made a video that's red meat for a segment of the country.

People that are warped enough to do this are not acting or limiting their action based on leadership.  This is sick violent crap and if it wasn't f white people it would have been f people from Gary Indiana.

None of this exonerates them from a hate crime or justifies a moment of this garbage.  I just don't think there's a national political tone here, monsters are monsters and we do not lack for them in human existence.

Yes 50 years. Make an example out of these subhumans

Whether race, class, religion, gender, national origin, or sexual orientation, both parties are ####ing horrible with this.

There hasn't been a Republican mayor in Philadelphia since Bernard Samuel almost 65 years ago. It's nuts, it's a Democratic city, but that's just unreal. Some big cities in blue states like NYC and LA have had decent turnover. Staggeringly, I see Chicago has us beat with 1931

Crime has been trending down over the last couple of decades... except it's on the rise now. Why? I believe the leading factor is the rhetoric coming from the left. There are fewer conscience issues if you are hurting or stealing from someone you hate and who you believe hates you... there is less reluctance to break the law, commit crimes and disobey the police when you believe the law, the system and the cops are all racist institutions designed to hold minorities down. This is the narrative the left perpetuates...

Come on, man. It ain't like they locked him in a locker or duct taped him to a goalpost or drew on him with a marker when he passed out at a party. That is kids being stupid.  This was a group of soulless, hate-fueled animals torturing one mentally challenged person and broadcasting it on the innerweb. They got off on the fear and pain they inflicted. No place for dirtbags like that in decent society.

No idea why people keep saying this.

Murders rise in big cities but crime rate hovers near record low

Additionally your leading factor being because of politics, even if crime was rising, is obnoxious and uninformed.  Honestly it's pretty hilarious, I can't believe people can walk around talking about this with a degree of confidence you seem to have.  :X

I think I figured it out.

The overall crime rate is dropping.

But the murder rate in big cities is rising.

Conclusion: The crime rate is dropping because more criminals are being murdered in the big cities. TADA!

Police interrogation of an inner city murder:

Cop: So why did you kill that drug dealer on the corner last night?  Local beef?

Murderer:  No sir, I've been reading a lot of Huffington Post articles and watching MSBC non-stop.

Cop: I knew it!!!!!!

I believe there was a study implying exactly this after nyc had a murder explosion in the late 80's and early 90's.  Kill enough killers, and most crime at that time was issue or gang related between known or connected persons, and there's less people to do it down the line.

There were 2600 murders in NYC in 1990, they had 334 in 2016.

Criminals must have Drudge Report as their home page, you know, because New York city is a conservative bastion.

Red meat for who, people with a conscious or an understanding of what is right or horrifically wrong?
Yeah, while this definitely is red meat for certain people, it is an eye-opener for a large segment of society who just go about their day trying to make a living without giving much thought to the horrors going on around the country. The proliferation of videos and now live streaming is pulling back the curtain and exposing these animals that pray on society. The big question is if these things will make us immune to these actions or bring about actual discussion and change. We are so divided as a country that I have a hard time believing any good can come from this.

Pretty sad that people cant even agree on this situation. If you are one of the people trying to sugar coat or downplay this specific incident, you are a pathetic human being.

Hyperbole much?

makes you wonder why Obama spoke about that issue and not this one, then
Link

President Barack Obama called the news from his hometown "despicable" and said the Internet has exposed long simmering racial tensions.

"What we have seen as surfacing, I think, are a lot of problems that have been there a long time," Obama told a Chicago-area television station in a prearranged interview in Washington. "Whether it's tensions between police and communities, (or) hate crimes of the despicable sort that has just now recently surfaced on Facebook."

Charged in the attack were Jordan Hill, 18, of Carpentersville; Tesfaye Cooper, 18, of Chicago; and sisters Brittany Covington, 18, and Tanishia Covington, 24, who lived in an apartment in the 3300 block of West Lexington Street where the assault allegedly took place.

It's a strange thing how Trump voters are quickly labeled racists or prejudiced...yet it's roundly accepted that black voters voted for Obama cause he was a black guy...without some of those same connotations.

If that's not the pot calling the kettle Obama..then I don't know what is...

I've thought this about Chicago every time I hear 50 people were shot over a weekend.

How have they not run out of people to shoot?

Is it downplaying it if I don't think it's the first step in a nationwide race war instigated by Obama and The Huffington Post in their eternal quest for power?
