The guy is ahead of several all time greats and is still suiting up. Shame on you if you labeled him a fragile player.

Taylor's injuries in his first few seasons branded him forever. It's the equivalent of a kid showing up to 1st grade and be stinky. There's a good chance he could have the nickname "stinky" the rest of his life.

 I had a buddy in high school on the football team who's name was "Dookie." He earned that name because once in middle school his backside fell in some mud. And the name stuck forever, even teachers forgot his real name.

that sux. WOW if u look at it, a decent year for fred and LT and they could be 8th and 9th on that list. thats impressive.

do you guys see Taylor having some value this year, even with Maroney and Faulk in the mix? Despite his age, I feel as if he is being overlooked and could very well give you 700-800 and 8-10 TD's--I see him as a solid #3 with #2 upside...Am I crazy?

Wow.

As for Taylor, some injuries robbed us from seeing him perform at his athletic best in the early part of his career which will dent his legacy. But he was top 5 minimum in talent among NFL backs for the first 5-8 years of his career.

A few years back when I was a FBG blogger goon, there was a Jags story that had an interview with Fred Taylor in it.

IIRC, he'd looked back at his injury history and decided that there had been times he was hurt and he could have played through it but didn't. I do think that his fragile moniker was well deserved originally, and his own words on that subject seem to bare that out.

But I don't think the nickname has been appropriate for him since that point. I think he grew up a bit and those little injuries that were keeping him out before and contributed to that image of him, no longer do.

500-700 yards, 3 tds

I have no idea how he'll be used this year since NE is a total information vaccuum and it's near impossible anymore to determine who's injured, who's healthy, who's starting, what the game plan/rotations will be, etc.. I do know that they had Morris, Maroney, and Faulk on the roster and they specifically went out on the 1st few days of FA and targetted him. He's a talented runner and will have good numbers to run against in the box (as opposed to Jax last year) due to the crazy passing attack NE has. He could be virtually useless due to a 4 headed monster or he could have tremendous value if he's used like a Dillon (doubtful IMO). I have targetted him and got him very late in all my leagues. He's the perfect guy to see what happens the 1st few weeks and if he's getting 15-18 carries, he's a steal, if he gets 10, 4, 6 then you cut him and move on to a better waiver wire option. I think he's the perfect low risk/moderate to potentially high reward.

He admitted that sometimes he could have played through and also that he wasn't focused enough on off season work when he was younger. He also said that he could have avoided some of the injuries if he had been more committed to maintaining his conditioning throughout the year. Fred is an interesting guy and fun to listen to in interviews because he can be very candid at times. He doesn't just give the standard "Bull Durham" answers.

Let's say he rushes for 1000 this season and the pats win a title...does the HOF talk begin?
He's a HOF contender no matter what he does this year IMO. Dunno if he'd get in, but he's certainly in the disussion. And really, numbers aside, he's thrice the RB Jerome Bettis ever was, and better than CMart.

See, I think just the opposite, I think they'll "save" him, and he'll be used more and more later, when it counts -- like the playoffs. Just my gut, or maybe "what I would do" thing, but that's my opinion for now. That obviously means I think he's still got some tread and is their best RB. Agree with the last part, and I have drafted him too.

That may be the case and we'll never know until they start the season because Belicheck isn't going to tip his hand. I think they are going to try and win games and if they feel that he gives them the best chance to do that they are going to use him. Each and every week counts in the NFL.It's a very low risk move and like I said if it doesn't work after a few weeks you kick him to the curb and snag someone else off the WW.

Well, I certainly would rather have that be the case, but we'll see...

I'm glad Taylor is having the last laugh, but unless he has a couple of stand-out years in some respect, no way he gets in the HOF. Its not the Hall of Pretty Good. He's been to 1 pro-bowl, never led the league in rushing or TDs, and 98 was the only year he was top 5 in any major category. Ironically, Fragile Freddy is a text-book compiler. Tomlinson has literally twice as many career TDs, and he's played 3 less seasons. Do you really want those two standing next to each other up there?

His lack of Pro Bowls is absolutely meaningless, but Taylor doesn't have any top 5 finishes and not enough touchdowns to make the Hall of Fame. His YPC and six seasons of over 1,200 yards will give him some consideration, but it won't be enough. Having played most of his career in Jacksonville won't help his cause, either. Had he put up the same numbers playing in New York or Pittsburgh, he would have more of a chance.
