Frank Gore (Dreaded High Ankle Sprain?) (1 Viewer)

(Rotoworld) NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports that Frank Gore will miss "at least" the next two weeks with a high ankle sprain.

Analysis: Citing a league source, La Canfora disputes the 49ers' assertion that Gore only has a routine sprain. The high ankle sprain is almost always a multiple-week injury, and the Niners will hope he can return after their Week 6 bye (meaning ultimately three games missed, including Week 3's one-carry effort). The Niners have wonderful matchups (vs. St. Louis, vs. Atlanta) coming up for Glen Coffee.

THe king of the sprained ankle. How many times in his NFL career has he had someone roll up on one of his ankles. It's easily a yearly occurance.

While I'll never cheer an injury (not even to an Eagle or Redskin), but I did draft Coffee in a couple of leagues. Should be an interesting few weeks.

The question is will Coffee be the feature or will Hill air it out?

The feed the ball to Coffee against a tough Minny run D, so I would assume he will get plenty of carries.

I love drafting people's backups in round 14-15-16 instea dof a kicker. And then dropping Ware when he got hurt. So I have Coffee. To start next week. Against the Rams.

NOW

I think that we all have seen a bit of his potential in the preseason, and you know Mr. Singletary's gameplan....does anybody honestly think that's gonna change with Coffee in now? Like Shaun Hill will suddenly become Brian Griese in TBB (when he was chuckin it 50 times a game cuz all 3 RBs were out)

Bump Josh Morgan and Vernon Davis.

Coffee's 2.16 ypc isn't going to cut it.

He played against the Vikings. I know we all hate the preseason hype, but he did look like he's got talent. And also, what makes you think there's any way Mike gets away from the run? I think we'll be pleasantly surprised (or have our beliefs confirmed) when Coffee turns in a strong performance next week.

The same Vikes who gave up decent games to Kevin Smith (3.5 ypc/ 93 total yards) and Jamal Lewis (5.18 ypc/ 104 total yards)? Sorry, I need to see it. Coffee does not automaticly become an RB1 like Gore was. So great, Coffee might produce against St. Louis, and then maybe Atlanta.. but then what? After the bye Gore is back and Coffee goes back to his normal role.

Also, I'll wait for the 49'ers to come out and say something instead of some random reporter. But it does sound like he will miss extended time.

Nobody said he'd be a stud all year. Simply said he'd produce against St Louis and that we'll get another glimpse of his future. Which you tried to refute. Unsuccessfully. And a 2.16 YPC is about par for the course in ChiTown isn't it... how can you look down on that?

I laughed at the Forte reference, that was a good one. I'm glass half empty right now being a Gore owner. I have better options than Coffee, but in another thread people were talking like he was the next coming of Larry Johnson (when he broke out) and all he needed was his chance. I'm just trying to be realistic in his future for this year.Don't want to talk about :lmao: anymore though, I want updates on Gore :lmao:

Update just reported after the night game:

Gore has a strained ligament in his ankle, it is NOT a high ankle sprain, and he is currently listed as Doubtful for next week.

Gore came to me in an autodraft so I grabbed Coffee the minute I got home, just had a feeling.....have Morgan in another league so a boost there would be a good thing too.

A sprain is an injury to a ligament, while a strain is an injury to a muscle of tendon. How the heck could you strain a ligament? This diagnosis does not make sense, therefore I wouldn't take any of it as truth. The one thing I do now, I was watching the game, Gore was limping badly, Gore had a terrible look on his face, and Gore got carted off the field.

So we should ignore what the team reports?

From twitter:

MattMaioccoGore was seen in the parking lot a while ago wearing an orthopedic boot and limping quite noticeably, according to a person who saw him.

He is correct. You cannot strain a ligament.
