We are getting close to the time the 60ish winners would be announced, aren't we? :excited:

Just wondered how many of you fellow posters out there submitted articles for the contest and what topics you chose?

I only sent in one, and it was on the topic of keeper league draft prep.

Anyone else?

I sent in five:1. Dynasty Trades - a discussion about whether it is better to trade away the chance to get a stud for the proven value of an established veteran.

2. Quarterback Performance: Home games vs. road games.

3. QBs: the difference between their first year as starter and their second.

4. Top 10 RBs: How often do they repeat - an 11 year study that looked at top 3 RBs as well.

5. Trade Secrets - my trading philosophy.

Yep, it shouldn't be much longer now. Good luck with yours.

When are the selected authors supposed to be informed and how?

If we select your article to be posted, we will pay $30 and put you in an FFTOC league where you will compete against 11 other writers for $250 cash.

Provided we get ample good efforts, we will select up to 60 articles for posting.

Note: If you submitted an article in the past to Footballguys.com and it was published on our website, feel free to tweak to make current and resubmit. If selected you will be eligible for the prizes as outlined.

Here is how it will work:

You write an article between now and Saturday, July 15th.

You send the article to Clayton Gray (gray@footballguys.com) and also provide the following information:

Name

E-mail address - where we can ask you questions (if needed) about the article

Please put "Freelance Article" in the subject header of the email

Articles should be sent as Microsoft Word documents or as text (.rtf, .txt). If tables are to be included, attach an Excel file. Do not send HTML files.

Payment will be $30 for the first article selected from each writer. If multiple articles from a writer are selected, you will be paid $35 for each additional article, but given just 1 entry into a FFTOC league (to compete for $250).

Note: Just because an article was sent in does not ensure that it will be used by Footballguys.com. We are looking for quality material with good takes backed up by strong statistical or real life experience.

By sending an article to Footballguys.com, you are agreeing to publish the content only at Footballguys.com. We are not interested in posting material that can be found at any other website or publication.

Material placed on the site becomes the property of Footballguys.com and can be used at their discretion for future publications.

If you are interested, start writing. We will be accepting freelance material from now until Saturday, July 15th.

We will publish on the message boards the full list of people selected on Monday, July 17th.

I sent in three, survivor drafting, value defenses in 06...oh man, I didn't send the third in yet.

Its still in my laptop at work.

I threw a fluff piece together today, but I think the premise is a solid one. I don't expect it to get posted, but I had some fun writing it.

Damn... I missed this. I had a solid idea too. Guess it will have to wait until next year.
Fantasy Effects of Riding a Motorized Vehicle without Proper Protection?Probably need to wait til next year for the conclusions anyway. :football:

Maybe post it in the forum? You won't get $30 but it's always good to get feedback and encourage a discussion. Use the same idea next year and tweak it to make it current.I'll post mine if they are rejected too.

Actually it was tentatively titled "Buy LOW Candidates : An Evaluation by Several METRICS." :P

I'm probably better off waiting until next year. I suspect a couple of my $$ league members troll this forum, and posting it will shed light into my drafting strategy as it relates to that league. I'd be tipping people off, and with a first prize of almost $5,000, I'm not sure it's even worth it for the $30.

I posted 2. One about commisioners hard work and a second about ways to make your league more exciting. Just need one to draft. PLEASE ......................... Good Luck all.

Hey guys,

Realistically, I'm looking at notifying the winners and losers by Thursday. Sorry for the delay, but there are a tons of submissions to get through.

Thanks for the heads up. There's no real hurry. It must be tough when you get entries right up until two days before the results are due.

I submitted one on varying levels of accuracy for the SOS and utilizing SOS for the stretch run and playoffs.

Clayton, Thank you for the projection of when we might hear more... I love the responsiveness here. Nice to see David keeping an eye out, too.

Especially cool to get an idea of some of the topics being considered. Thanks to all the authors who have shared. It's like overhearing Christmas wish lists being discussed...you dont know exactly what is gift-wrapped under the tree, but it is neat to envision what might be there.

Since we may still have a day or two, anyone else care to entice?

Update:

Out of 106 submissions, we have 26 definite "yes" articles and nine "maybe" articles. As soon as we sort out those last nine, we'll inform all of the writers.

Wow! And it's still July! Judging from previous years, I assumed it would be at least another month.

Well done, Clayton and company.

I'm looking forward to reading this stuff. Every little bit helps.

I'd like to know which ones were selected though - one of my two articles made it. The other I'd like to post here... :banned:

Does anyone know how 26 entries (and 9 maybes) get whittled down to 12 entries into a FFTOC league?

Maybe the numbers can be varied?Or possibly there are only 24 writers and some have multiple articles?

26 + 10 = 36 Three twelve team leagues

My article was also selected. I had an idea that might save FBG some cash and time: I'd prefer a three-year site subscription over the $30.

I did not make it...but it was a first attempt at writing an article, and honestly, I just ran out of time in writing it. I am thinking of completing it like I would have liked to and either post it here, or save it for next year.

Good luck all.

That's a pity :sadbanana: It would be good to get a discussion going on all the submissions, successful or otherwise.

Good luck next year if you decide to hang on to it.

Looks like I made it and pretty excited.

Finish it and submit next year. Everyone has something to add and a unique perspective that, perhaps, others have not thought about.

Hey guys, my article didn't make it (certainly no shame given the depth of knowledge on the MB), but I'd like to post it here so I can get some feedback.

Does anyone have any ideas about how I can link to an excel file so that the data I complied and the calcualtions I performed can be seen by everyone?? If I paste in the file, can everyone download it and then open it?? Sorry for my ignorance, and thanks for the help!!

If I can figure it out, I'd be more than happy to start a "not-quite-good-enough to make the site" thread for the 75 or so of us didn't make the cut.

Can't wait to see the articles!!!
