Frerotte over Jackson? (1 Viewer)

I think the Vikings have hitched their wagon to Jackson for the 2008 season, and barring an absolutely terrible first half, I don't think they make a change.

I'm calling it now, if Jackson plays poorly in week 3, he will miss week 4 with a phantom injury. His recovery time will depend on the play of Frerotte.

Childress was on with Pat & Tim today. VERY non-commital. If I were a betting man, I'd say Frerotte starts week 3. But that is COMPLETE speculation on my part.

I think Childress sees the writing on the wall about his job security if they fail to make the post-season, you hear everyone talking about it, that 'the Vikings have all the tools in place to win this year, but they need better QB play out of T. Jackson'..

if in the first half of this upcoming week 3 matchup, T.Jackson looks as bad as he looked in this past game against Indy, I'd put the odds at 2-1 that Frerotte starts the second half of this week 3 game for Minnesota.

Just read Frerrote named the starter FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR!!

Here's the blurb

Vikings | Frerotte named starter for rest of year

ESPNews reports the Minnesota Vikings have named QB Gus Frerotte their starting quarterback for the rest of the year.

"For the rest of the year" and not "for week 3"? Most coaches are kinda reluctant to project out past the very next week when a QB change occurs. That seems rather unusual wording.

If Frerotte was so clearly the superior QB and Childress is so clearly convinced he's the answer, why wasn't he starting to begin with? I see two games of poor play putting Jackson on the bench, but to take the added position that he won't be back seems awfully confident in Frerotte or awfully down on Jackson.

so the real question is where to rank Gus? Do you like him better then Garrard? How about Hasslebeck? Delhomme? I'm just not sure myself and figure I will let someone else take that ride.

I just can't believe a team as good as the Vikings went into the season with one QB as unproven as Jackson and another as close to the end of the line as Frerotte. Were they hoping to get a "cut down" QB? When you see a guy like JP Losman just sitting on the bench in BUF nearing the end of his contract there it's hard to imagine he wouldn't have been worth pursuing for a draft pick to make a run and at the very least push Jackson in the preseason.

;)

I thought for sure TJ would have to break a leg before Childress changed:

Frerotte replaces Jackson at QB:

Two days after giving strong indications that he might make a quarterback change, Brad Childress made it official today.

The Vikings coach announced veteran Gus Frerotte would replace Tarvaris Jackson for Sunday’s game against Carolina at the Metrodome. Childress said Frerotte would be the starter for the remainder of the season.

I agree 300%.

Gus Frerotte was born in 1971...he is now 37 years old...and he has never really lit it up. I can never understand what people see in this guy, he is the epitome of a journeyman. Look at his career numbers...

-He has thrown for over 3,000 yds only once in his life, and that was his 3rd year in the league...so Was, Det, Den, Mia, Cin, MN(1st time around), and St L were all dead wrong on this guy and were just sleeping on a gem....right!

-He has never thrown 20 TD in a season...in fact he has topped 15 TDs only twice in his career...think about that.

-He is now on a power running team, what are the odds he explodes?

Can he toss 200 yds and 1 to perhaps 2 TD a week? Not consistently but he might pop a game or two here or there...honestly this is nothing to get excited about and if you have to turn to Frerotte to save your season, something has gone horribly wrong for you.

This has  Ziggy  written all over it. I think one more game of TJ not winning and Childress would have received his walking papers. Now if Gus goes out and lays an egg Childress will try and play the  I tried owner I really tried.. Childress should have been handed his walking papers last year. Owner wants new stadium and the only way that happens is if the vikings start making the playoffs/SuperBowl, which, IMO, is not going to happen as long as Childress is the coach.

I picked this guy up because I have Cassel and Campbell

as my only QBs in my dynasty league.

The only reason I grabbed him was that he was handed the starting QB job for the remainder of the season.

I expect little from him. If he lights it up, I'll deal him away.

As a Bernard Berrian owner, this pleases me a great deal. Surely ole Gus can get the ball downfield better than Jackson...

I think this might be a good spot for Gus. As I recall, he played very well in limited action for MN the first go-round. Having Moss helped, but he needs a sturdy line (check), a strong running game (check) and decent receivers

this should benefit Bernard Berian

I think the biggest problem with Jackson is the fact that running is an option for him. Defenses are already geared up to defend against the run. In fact, it's their primary concern. If he goes through his progressions and doesn't think he has anything, he's going to look to run and he's toast. The fact that he's horrible at looking down field doesn't help the running game at all (although Peterson's superior ability has if you can believe masked that as much as possible). I think, if nothing else, Ferotte will allow for the illusion of a down-field threat. Heck, he might even be able to get the ball 20 yards past the LOS.
