Friday night/Saturday morning once in a lifetime meteor storm (1 Viewer)

Forecast for 50 degrees and clear skies here tonight. I'm making a Space Night out of it and taking my boys to Perkins Observatory beforehand for the weekly space program they put on. Should be a good, sciencey night with the kids!
Sounds awesome, have fun.

Perfect! Will get started here just after the Hannibal finale.

Unlike most meteor showers, the Camelopardalids was not predicted well in advance because it is such a new discovery.
Anyone else think that this is kinda lame?
That's the name of the constellation that the meteors will appear to be coming from. Oddly enough, it represents a giraffe.
Camel-Leopard is another name for giraffe.

Dillweed? The plot thickens. I was sure it was some dillhole.

was just way outside the city where visibility is great for about 20 minutes and didn't see a damn thing

I just spent 15 minutes in my hot tub where I get about 240 degrees, and the radiant is right over me...........I saw 2 very small shooters

well I am going to head out for a long time in the hot tub..........I am old and have to pee every 30 minutes...........so if I see something significant I will let you guys know. Raleigh, NC 100% clear here weather wise

At 11:00 CT I came in from outside and it was just partly cloudy. I live in the country so no light pollution. Perfect night and no bugs. Now it's cloudy enough that I can't even see one star let alone the main event. Suxors.

Any photography FBGs taking any pics to post?

Aw, there is too much light from the surrounding area to get a good view of it. Jeebus, I just noticed how one store at a nearby mall is shooting all kinds of light into the sky. What a waste of energy.

Aaaand the clouds roll in. Don't think I'm missing anything anyway. It'd be awesome to be somewhere in the mountains right now with a clear sky.

Here's a live online feed from Oregon...don't blame me if it sucks.

Comet 209P/LINEAR and Camelopardalid Meteor Shower: http://youtu.be/eCKKhEsPA8Y

There's some pretty cool time lapse videos on YouTube of meteor showers. I've watched a few and they're way better than what's going in in the sky right now.

Some dillhole said I would see something. :wall:
Link?
I wasn't referring to you, dillbutt.
Why the hostility?
I'm not hostile, dillnose.
Did you take my "hey dillholes" comment earlier personal? There was no need to unless you were the one who got my thread deleted...
Why you so sensitive dilldong?
Lol. You mad bro?

Stood outside for 30 minutes until my neck got stuff and I got cold. Didn't see enough to make me want to put on a jacket or get out the hammock so I came in. Saw one good one. Only had one wish I needed to make anyway...wish for more wishes b####es.

Yeah, this meteor shower sucks dillanus.

Sure...NOW I read this:

There is one major caveat about this new meteor shower however: No one can actually promise you it will actually happen.

Computer models suggest that sometime between 11 p.m. Friday night and 1 a.m. Saturday morning the Earth will pass through a trail of dust shed by the comet 209P/LINEAR hundreds of years ago. But since the Earth has never passed through this debris stream before, nobody knows exactly how much debris is actually there.

Today, Comet 209P/LINEAR is a fairly inactive comet, not leaving much of anything in its wake. If the same were true hundreds of years ago, then we won't get much of a show tonight.
