That's pretty much where I fall in line, too.  We usually stay with my family out in Loveland and Blu Ash has a bigger menu for my kids to pick from.
Those double deli sandwiches are pretty good too. I haven't been there for years, though.

Grew up in Columbus and never had it until I met my wife who is from Cincinnati.  I love the stuff.  I actually now prefer spaghetti with chili instead of the normal sauce (unless it's a nice restaurant or homemade noodles).  Coneys are also ridiculously good.

The first time having it...well, it was an experience about an hour later  :oldunsure:

My MIL has a great knock off recipe that she makes from time to time in huge batches.  We get several containers for freezing.
I'm the opposite. Growing up spaghetti was just part of chili, just seemed wrong if it was missing. Now, I'll still eat it that way but never put it in it if I'm making it and prefer it without spaghetti.

I'm strictly a Skyline guy but Blue Ash Chili is pretty good too.  Still go to the Camp occasionally for the nostalgia.
I've only been to the Western Row location of Blu Ash, and it was horrible.  I have been told the original location is the way to go.

I am mostly Skyline, but will do Gold Star in a pinch.  Camp Washington was ok.  I did enjoy the atmosphere.  Only been there once.

I actually like Price Hill Chili as well, and they do have a very nice sandwich menu if you are ever stuck on the west side being held against your will.

I lived right next to Blue Ash but never tried theirs.  Side note:  I worked at the Bennigan's Blue Ash location for about 5 years.  We would go drink at Garcia's across the street, sit on the patio and watch the planes land over your head and across the street.  I heard that area is completely changed now.

I kinda miss Bennigan's  There was one across the street from the naval base in Orlando where I went to school for a year.  Lot of nights working on the their 100 beers from around the world.  Almost got my name on the wall.

There were two down in MD that we used to go to when we were down that way.  They just closed last year.  I think there's still one in NJ open.  But not many left.

Best Baked Potato Soup evah.

I've had skyline.  It was all right. Tried both the spaghetti and the hot dog. I think I preferred the latter but wouldn't go out of my way to seek it out again. Would eat it if it was offered or others wanted to go.

So, that's kinda in between two of your choices.

I've found that if you didn't grow up on the stuff, there's probably a 8 in 10 chance you don't like it.
...at least initially.  I've known quite a number of people who have wondered "what the heck is this, chili?" and ripping it to craving it weekly.  :grad:   Its why I always describe it as an ethnic meat sauce.  People have an expectation with true chili.

See, that changes how I look at it. I'd always assumed it was chili.  When you put it like that, it makes more sense why such a thing would exist.

Calling it "chili" was just a  marketing gimmick by a Greek immigrant in Cincinnati to get non-Greek Americans to think it was something American, as calling it "saltsa kima" would alienate most of his market. Obviously it worked.

Something similar happened in Detroit where a Greek immigrant called his new Greek restaurant a "Coney Island" because Coney Island in NY was known for hot dogs, and he was serving saltsa kima on top of hot dogs. Other greek entrepreneurs in Detroit then simply just used the "Coney Island" name too and also put saltsa kima on hot dogs, which led to salsa kima eventually becoming known as coney sauce, despite it having zero history to do with Coney Island in NY.

Basically Skylines, Gold Stars and  Coney Islands are Greek restaurants in American clothing.

This is why I always say, "Don't trust immigrants."

In Cincinnati for the weekend. Already hammered Skyline once and got a Graeter's milkshake.  Awesome city

I love Skyline.  I stop at one in Florence, Ky when I fly into Cincinnati/ Northern Ky airport when visiting my brother in Ky.   When I drive to Ky I load up on Skyline Chili in my trunk.   You can buy it at Kroger’s.

I know there used to be a Cincinnati thread. Went ice skating earlier. Now downtown at Moerlein's for dinner. Beautiful view of the river.

My daughter played in a college volleyball tourney at Xavier.  We stayed across the river and all the parents went out and got hammered.   I woke up with a horrible hangover and was hungry as hell as I had not eaten in about 14 hours.  Had a 4 hour drive home ahead of me and had never been to Skyline,  pulled in and got the 5 way or whatever with chili and spaghetti.   Sat in my car and ate it, at the time it was one of the best meals I can remember, hungover and hungry as hell.  I just sat there when I was done thinking..dam that was good!

It's such a great city. The people are so cool and just normal here.  Friendly. Can strike up a conversation and talk with anyone.

We were hanging out by the river and a few guys were riding those onewheelers on the sidewalk. One guy in his 20s just stopped and let both of my kids ride it while he held them on it. Reminded me of what would happen growing up in small town Kentucky. Awesome night.

Precisely the way Skyline was invented to be eaten.
