From the Impress Us with Your Knowledge Thread comes this gem:

If you go any page on Wikipedia, and keep clicking the first hyperlinked word in the article that is not in italics or inside parentheses, and keep repeating, eventually you'll be taken to the page for "Philosophy".
Now, it is known that God-Supreme Being creates a loop which, for now at least, is self-contained and does not lead back to "Philosophy" (it is known, Kaleesi). But it appears that this works for most starting points.

The goal of this thread is two-fold:

First, search for other self-contained loops (or sequences of neverending, never repeating links if you are a true dreamer),

Second, post your findings here.

Bonus points for finding the LONGEST sequence to philosophy...

So for example, take MIchael J. Fox.

Short post:

Quote

Michael J. Fox: 17 clicks
Long post:

Quote

17 Clicks from Michael J. Fox: OC - Canadian - North American - Continent - landmasses - land - earth sciences - sciences - knowledge - facts - proven - sufficient - logic - reasoning - consciously - subjectivity - PHILOSOPHY
ps: Philosophy: 4 clicks

They are all about 16 or 17 clicks. I did bicycle and someone else did bass fishing. Still got there in 16 or 17.

It's not true. There's lots within 10 clicks.

Take "Alpha Romeo" for example: 10 clicks

Probably messed it up but I started with Alfred Molina (just threw in Raiders of the Lost Ark) and ended with a loop that started with knowledge and got me back there.

Edit to add. I did click in something in parentheses once.

I don't think Knowledge is a loop, but Alfred Molina is 22:

Alfred Molina - Raiders of the Lost Ark - fantasy film - fantasy - genre - literature - art - human behavior - behavior - organisms - biology - natural science - science - knowledge - fact - proven - sufficient - logic - reasoning - consciousness - subjectivity - philosophy

I don't see the loop, but 26 clicks is a NEW RECORD!!

Alfred Molina - Ricardo Morales - fictional character - person - human - primates - mammal - clade - tree of life - Charles Darwin - FRS - learned society - organization - social - organisms - biology - natural science - science - knowledge - facts - proven - sufficient - logic - reasoning - consciously - subjectivity - philosophy

eta: first post has been updated :)

Raiders of the Lost Ark is italicized, so I skipped to the first word outside of italics.

Not sure if this is what you mean by a loop, but you can go Wiki > Website > Web Page > Web Document > Web Page > Web Document > and so on

That's funny - I almost said that you "pulled a Homer" but didn't know if you'd know what I was talking about. lol

French language does not lead to philosophy and is not a loop. :brush:

I'm using the wikipanion app so I don't know if that messes it up.

I did "comet". After 7 clicks I end up at "four fundamental states of matter" which creates a loop between it and "solids".

well, i guess it depends on whether a list of "See also" links is part of the linking structure.

Osama bin Laden eventually leads to terrorism, the next link to click is terror which throws you over to wiktionary.org, where eventually you end up in a color/colour loop.

Looks like this is the commom strand of links...All you have to do is get to science.

Science - Knowledge - Fact - Proof (truth) - Necessity and sufficiency - Logic - Reason - Consciousness - Subjectivity - Philosophy
