GB Ralph Wilson. Without him, there would be no Oakland Raiders today.

In 1962, Wilson decided to loan the financially-struggling Oakland Raiders $400,000 to keep the team solvent. It was done to maintain an eight-team AFL. If the league shrunk to seven teams, there would be an unbalanced schedule, along with the perception that the American Football League was beginning to show cracks in their foundation.

Another funny story: Lamar Hunt, son of a wealthy Texas oil baron, bought the upstart Dallas Texans. After the first season, the Texans were losing a ton of money. A reporter went to Hunt's father and said "Your son's team lost a million dollars this season. Your reaction?" The elder Hunt paused and said, "Well at this rate, he can only survive another 120 years."

I watched last week's show. It was good stuff, although I had heard a lot of the stories before.

Great series...Al Davis on the signing of Pete Gogolak by the Giants "We just got a merger!" Although I watched another episode where it stated Davis was against a merger because his goal was to overtake the NFL, not merge.
