Gage ranked pretty high this week against tough Steelers D (1 Viewer)

FBG has had Justin Gage ranked around WR40 all preseason. Why is he valued so highly this week with a bad passing matchup vs. the Steelers defense?

It's because Gage has had some success against Pittsburgh.

Evidence is the 12/21/2008 game, where he had 5 catches for 104 yards and a TD.

Their thinking must be for 2 reasons.

The Titans are going to have to pass in order to move the ball on the Steelers.

Looks like both Washington and Cook stand a good chance of not playing or being extremely limited leaving Gage as the main option in the passing game.

Anyone starting Gage as their #3 or #4 WR?

I'm gonna have to to start Gage at WR3 due to Walter's injury/uncertainty. Not real confident about starting a guy I drafted in the 13th round in Week 1, but there are some positives:

Gage had a fantastic preseason, as did Collins. Plus Nate Washington will either be out, or an injured decoy. Teams can't run on Pitt, so I expect Tennessee to pass more than usual. Pitt can be passed on. When you add the 2008 stats Gage had against the Steelers, it makes him startable this week.

Because of his high ranking this week I'm considering him instead of Driver as my #3 WR, not sure I can pull the trigger.

Gage has been a frustrating FF performer over the last few years. Have snagged him off the wire for the past few years, and drafted him as my flier in last round.

While he has upside, he never seemed to rise above occasionally successful spot starter. With Britt looking more electric than Gage in the preseason, I see Gage having yet another ho-hum year, with a few occasional games where he could be played as a WR3 or flex starter.

That said, this seems to be one of those games. Will be starting him thanks to lack of other options, and will look to sell high if he comes through.

Bump to track progress tonight (started Gage at the flex position this week instead of Lance Moore).

Gage went to me in an auction and the first two drafts I did, but not in my last one, a higher dollar one. He was very undervalued I thought. Vet QBs go with the guys they are most familiar with. With Washington being new to TN, and Britt a rookie, I thought Collins would look alot more to Gage this year than last, and the preseason games bore that out. Also, TN will be in closer games and have to throw the ball more. In the one league where I had to decide to start him, I did so at WR3 over Avery, but just because Gage's game was on TV.
