http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/news/Sto...?STORY_ID=18536(KFFL) CBSSports.com reports Philadelphia Eagles LB Omar Gaither appears to have moved ahead of LB Joe Mays as the No. 1 middle linebacker. Gaither worked with the starters Sunday, Aug. 30, and hinted he would be the starter for the regular-season opener.
Aviod this situation. Going to be a LBBC (LB by committee) all year. I cannot see anything greater than a LB 4 value on any given week for anyone there.McDermott said that he is looking for "consistency" from the person who will start in the middle. McDermott is also not disappointed that no one has stood out and seized the job. The fact that Gaither is being given the chance to run the defense in practice doesn't mean Mays is out of the picture either.
He's the WLB, and quite possibly a better move at this point than either of those guys. I really think Gaither's quite replaceable - since he lost htis job once already, and then lost the WLB job.corpcow said:Isn't Akeem Jordan the smart move?
Sorry, in case it wasn't clear - I wasn't saying Akeem Jordan was ever going to play MLB - just that he was the smart move for fantasy owners as a 3 down backer, working from the weakside in a defense that likes to blitz, and with turmoil next to him. To me, the fact that Mays hasn't impressed and they're waffling between Gaither who we've seen before and has been... average... Mikell probably benefits too. He's the WLB, and quite possibly a better move at this point than either of those guys. I may be wrong, but I don't think historically, the Philly WLB has ever produced much.Sorry, in case it wasn't clear - I wasn't saying Akeem Jordan was ever going to play MLB - just that he was the smart move for fantasy owners as a 3 down backer, working from the weakside in a defense that likes to blitz, and with turmoil next to him. I think this is true, but they also haven't had a lot of talent at the position either. Not saying Jordan is a stud, but the Eagles just have never seemed to put a very high emphasis on the LB position, particularly at the OLB spots, in the draft or free agency. I think they prefer to spend their cap dollars up front and in the secondary and treat LBs more like plug and play pieces in that system.Gaither has flopped in the past, but he's obviously the more experienced player and better in coverage. Probably means we can bump up Mikell a bit since he'll see more time up in the box on early downs to support against the run. And, it looks like Gaither has value once again as a likely 3-down LB. If Jordan beats out Gocong for the other nickel spot, he's a solid depth guy as well. None of these Eagles LBs look like everyweek starters though.I may be wrong, but I don't think historically, the Philly WLB has ever produced much.

IIRC, Gaither got injured recently, but it's not expected to be serious. Given that many teams rest their starters in the last preseason game, it seems like this might actually be a positive sign for Gaither to begin the season as the starter as long as he's healthy enough to play.Eagles | Mays to start at MLB Thursday (KFFL) Jeff Offord, of the Burlington County Times, reports Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid announced LB Joe Mays will start the team's final preseason game Thursday, Sept. 3, at middle linebacker. LB Omar Gaither will be on the sidelines.

He's the safe 3- down backer, and the MLB is looking like a battle all season long in Philly. To give you an idea how unsettled things are - the safety spot next to Mikell was thought to be a Jones-Demps battle, but rookie Macho Harris is currently atop the depth chart. With Jordan making everyone's sneaky list, it seems that Jordan is almost being over-valued.
