Game Capsules (1 Viewer)

i'm not trying to be negative or anything, but does anyone else feel like the game capsules were more useful last year? i feel like so far this year, **for the most part** they've been a regurgitation of the box score. i know that kitna completed 60% of his passes, i mean, i can do the math myself. what the capsules i think used to bring was a commentary on how the players **looked** in the game, and what their opportunities were like. granted, there is still *some* commentary to that effect, but i feel like for many games/players, the game recaps end up being less helpful than in years past.

i'm willing to accept that i'm on my own potentially here, but was just wondering if anyone else felt the same. if not, i'll still end up with a good nights sleep... its not like i can complain about the info FBG provides for $20....

Hi baronson,Thanks for the feedback. I agree we need to give more information that isn't just the boxscore stuff and push that angle more. Thanks.J

here's a good example re. Kevin Jones:

"His 35 yard touchdown run on third and inches in the third quarter put the Lions back into the lead. He added another touchdown in the fourth quarter on a seven yard draw play. Detroit may have lost the game, but it wasn’t for his lack of effort. He is their number one running back and a key part of the emerging Lions’ passing attack."

on the flipside, the Atl/Ari writeup was way more useful, as it provided insight into what happened in the game. in fact, if you read it, there are hardly any stats mentioned in the player blurbs at all. which is good! because i can get the numbers from a box score on my own.

now, i didn't watch the Det/StL game, so maybe it was really boring and Kevin Jones and Roy Williams did exactly what i'd expect them to (run, catch, and complain). in the event they did something besides that, i feel thats what these capsules should be capturing.

for example, was Kevin Jones trusting his blockers more, as Martz had said he should? was he the one missing blocks causing Kitna to fumble/get sacked? was Roy Williams open on several occasions in which Kitna wasn't able to find him, either due to pressure, or just being Jon Kitna?

on the other hand, the Furrey writeup was solid:

"Furrey seems to be a receiver no one can cover. He’s quick, runs laser routes, and the ball seems to stick to his hands. He had to lay out for his second quarter touchdown, and he doesn’t mind making the tough catch over the middle."

this is a long post. sorry about that. figured i'd back up my claims with examples.
