Game of Thrones, tv only, books don't exist, no backstory...NERDS already ruining a series that hasn't started (3 Viewers)

Could've been your feed. I watched that episode last night (DirecTV HBO on demand). The intro was right after the Hound drops the log he was carrying solo and turns to the camera.
Ok, Comcast likely took it out when they edited it down.  Having said that, how many times has the intro been after a shot, and not immediately after the HBO over static shot?

S4 E1 - There's the cold opening of Tywin having the blacksmith melt down the Stark Valaryian Sword to make the two Lannister swords....and then Tywin threw the wolf sheath on the furnace.

It was 'The Door', what a great episode.

Disappointed in the WW reveal, took about 30 seconds, was hoping for some more substance.
Episode 5, season 6. Watched it last night. I put that episode right up there with Hardhomme and BoB. With this part being beyond the books I read, it was really a hard jolt to the system as Hodor is such a great character. And the years long build up to that scene is amazing. Absolutely amazing.

I read at some point that the very first episode and that episode were the only two that started with a cold open. Every other episode started with the credits.

-

I heard an interview it was done that way because they couldn't have Rory McCann's name in the intro and give a surprise reappearance.
Two Swords is also a cold opening

Also, I've been rewatching season 6 this past week, and I caught something, which may have just been editing.  In the episode where the Hound comes back, there was no "intro" into the show (the spinning sun ball and the camera going all over the map of Westeros and Essos).  Mean anything or was that just cut out from the feed I was watching (via free GoT this week with Comcast)?
Iirc, they do the opening titles after that initial scene with the hound and sweringen. Loved that, but not sure what to make of it. It maybe it was only on the on demand version as a mistake (I watched it last week)

Yeah, I think we have just gotten so used the the Jamie we have now, and forget what an ### he could be back in the day - especially doing what he needs to do to protect his family.
He did threaten to catapult Edmure Tully's infant son over the walls at Riverrun to get him to surrender the castle late last season. Edmure didn't call Jamie's bluff, so I suppose he may not have followed through if it came to that.

Jon, definitely. Did anyone think the Hound was dead, though?  You never saw a body, I just assumed alive.
Re-watching season 6 this past week, it struck me as odd they never showed the Blackfish actually dying at Riverrun. It just seemed odd since the show is not shy about showing bloody deaths in great detail.

A couple of things after finishing up re-watching last season:

Probably meaningless, but we never did see Blackfish die.

Why wasn't Lady Olenna at the Sept?

Why did Lancel chase the boy into the basement?

True on Blackfish, but I don't think he is important enough at this point to matter, could be wrong.

Her granddaughter Ms. Dormer gave her the secret rose sash as a warning that she was still there and not crazy but that she had to leave King's Landing for her own safety which she did.

Because the kid shouldn't have been where he was and it was a necessary plot device.

But she was still there when they attempted to rescue Margery from her walk of atonement.

But she was still there when they attempted to rescue Margery from her walk of atonement.
There was a scene in between those episodes where the High Sparrow made some veiled threats to Margaery about Lady Olena not being a true believer or something. Lady Olena wasn't buying that her granddaughter had turned into a religious nut so Margaery told her to go home and slipped her the rose which was the symbol of their house signifying Margaery was just playing along.

At the beginning of Winds of Winter when they show the "Previously on..." it was one of the scenes they highlighted.

that was earlier than the sept. after that, the two of them meet under watch from the shame, shame, shame lady and marge gives gma the rose note. gma skips town immediately afterwards, but before the sept.

OK, I'll buy it. Once the rescue failed she decided to skip town.

My only real main complaint about an awesome season 6, they were in such a huge hurry for some reason that they rushed through little stuff like this.

In Winds of Winter though, Walder Frey is talking to Jamie and says something along the lines of "Can't believe the Blackfish was killed by just regular footsoldiers..."

It wasn't immediately though. Didn't she give the rose to her before her planned walk of atonement? Olenna was still in town. But I can see how she'd leave after the failed attempt.

Sounds like an entire scene they had to cut for time. Surprised they didn't just add a few more minutes to the episode. They've done that before.

I just watched it- pretty sure she gets saved from the walk one episode, get's cleaned up the next and meets with granny. immediately after being saved from the walk? dunno. but afterwards and definitely before the sept.

This is correct.  Rewatched those two episodes last night.

Was watching the start of Battles of Bastards earlier today - the part where they have to explain to Tormund what flanking is had me rolling. "They won't be able to hit us from the sides."  "Good!"

Looked it up and you are correct.

Failed rescue was EP6 and handing rose was Ep7...thx.

all of tormund's scenes with brienne are awesome. I don't even know that they speak to each other, but his wolfhound glare and her disgust at it had me lol every time.

"A pincer move."

I love the look on Tormunds face, just total blankness.

The scene shortly after that where he and Davos are talking about what they do the night before a battle was great too. Davos says he walks the camp because he doesn't want people hearing the sound of him ####ting himself. When they part ways, Tormund responds: "Enjoy your ####ting!"

Arrrggghhhh, I'm behind. I was cruising along and all set to have season finished by the start of 7, but I lost an episode last night because I had to edit pics for a client and tonight I have some work to do. No way I get through them all before the 16th.
I'm way behind. I probably will.just delay watching season 7 for a week or so.

The further into the story we get, does anyone feel at this point Jamie pushing Bran out of the window was completely out of character?  I kinda wish now that Cersei pushed him and Jamie just took the blame for it when captured later on.

I thought we were getting a redemption story, but if you look at it as a whole, he didn't really do anything wrong at any point except the Bran shove. Well, also banging sis, but I'm talking about killing innocents type stuff.
Well he did rape Cersei right next to the newly dead body of their son, but who's judging.

Tormund is to Jon as Bronn is to Jamie - just comic relief and a good sidekick.  That said, I'm not sure which I'd take in a fight.

IIRC, at hardhome the cold immediately precedes them, which I took as the walkers causing it.
IMO, it's a little of both. They can control/use the cold and snow, etc. but they don't cause the actual winters. There was a line where someone said something like "if the Maester's are right, this will be the longest winter in a thousand years." Not to get ultra :nerd:  but that suggests to me that the winters and summers varying length is a natural phenomenon. Makes me think the White Walkers have been biding their time waiting for this unusually long winter.

agree with you. the winter comes on it's own and naturally. but the walkers bring a cloud of colder with them wherever they go. at hardhome it was a cloud and a cold wind, IIRC>

And just before that when Tormund invites Davos to drink some sour goats milk:

Davos ; "while that does sound delicious..." :lmao:

Of the many crucial-to-the-plot scenes in that final episode, when explosions are going off in King's Landing, we see Granny in Dorne meeting Ellaria Sand and Varys. Ellaria seems to have assumed de-facto control of Dorne, and it appears likely both Dorne and Highgarden will join forces with Dany the Targ.

A couple random loose ends

Who was the woman in quarth with the mask who talked to jorah a few times?

Who was rob Starks wife's mother?

Why did little finger marry sansa off to Bruce Bolton?  what did he get?  does he actually care about her sitting next to him on the throne or is it all about the climb?

LF married S to BB because he was interested in seeing her nailed in a dirty place....and I don't mean Cleveland.

Things I didn't totally get the first time around

The rich dude that was helping khaleesi and her brother at the beginning was the one who gave her the eggs in episode 1, and met with varis a couple episodes later where arya overheard them talking about Ned... varis then tells tyrion that he's been working with that guy and someone else to replace Robert baratheon for a long time. Varis is from esso, which is near or in volantis, which is where the targarians were. So he was basically a double agent in kings landing supporting his hometown team while sitting on Robert's small council. But he was also the one who pushed to send the assassin to kill khaleesi. Wtf.

The gay guy at the brothel who hooks up with the viper had said the words "this is Lord Peter Baylish's establishment" more times and more ways than Kramer said these pretzels are making me thirsty

I'm guessing the woman in the mask would've been who Jorah reported to in order to get intel back to the small council.

LF said to BB that, "the last time the knights of the Vail aligned with the north, it toppled the greatest dynasty the world has ever known." LF sees that the Lannisters took a massive blow when Tywin died. He is now making alliances to shore up his power base outside of the Lannisters.

Littlefinger is still one of the most dangerous men in the kingdom, especially if you're Jon Snow. IIRC, he sorta downplayed the Targaryen threat very early in the series, didn't he? He's got to be in the middle of lots of very big crap in S7.

Ah he planned to have stannis kill the Boltons, and leave sansa as the wardeness of the north so he could take the north.

Which explains why he was so pissed when he brought the knights of the Vale to save her and then the little bear island girl started cheering for the king of the north.
