no... 1/2 the distanceit doesn't go back to the same place?
If you're going to be a tool today, you at least should have been man enough to use your normal login name.slammed out of bounds?
Lot o' Stillers fans there too.Did anyone see Manning telling the crowd to be quiet as soon as the flag was thrown for Indy's false start. The Indy crowd is still making too much noise while their team is on offense. Idiots.
Upon further review. Yes I missed it.slammed out of bounds?
the def got indy 1/2way to the goalDoes the NFL ever wonder if it is wrong that at 3rd and goal at the 1, the offense gets a 5 yard penalty and then the def gets a 5 yard penalty that it is goofy to be 3rd and goal at the 3?
At any point where the penalty would exceed 1/2 the distance. So at the 29, a 15 yard penalty is 14 1/2.Quick question. At what point do they start taking half the distance to the goal line? An offsides on the 6 yard line gives them room to get to the 1 right? But it obviously doesn't happen that way.
actually i think they should make the rule to be, if a defensive penalty would be half the distance, than a similar distance offensive penalty should be half the distance away from the goal line. They should change the 1/2 the distance penalties if the yardage allowed for the foul still wouldn't put the ball into the endzone. Similar penalties on both teams and the Dolts lost 2 yards in the transaction.
I know that and understand that but it is still goofy to have equal penalties hurt 1 team worse. I know how it got there but was curious if the NFL ever explained why equal penalties can hurt one team worse.the def got indy 1/2way to the goalDoes the NFL ever wonder if it is wrong that at 3rd and goal at the 1, the offense gets a 5 yard penalty and then the def gets a 5 yard penalty that it is goofy to be 3rd and goal at the 3?
Gotcha. Thanks. At any point where the penalty would exceed 1/2 the distance. So at the 29, a 15 yard penalty is 14 1/2.Quick question. At what point do they start taking half the distance to the goal line? An offsides on the 6 yard line gives them room to get to the 1 right? But it obviously doesn't happen that way.
big stop there... TD would have really changed the momentum of the game i think

Once the penalty length is more than half the distance to the goal for anything but a spot foul (i.e. pass interference), they assess half the distance to the goal as the penalty.Quick question. At what point do they start taking half the distance to the goal line? An offsides on the 6 yard line gives them room to get to the 1 right? But it obviously doesn't happen that way.
yes, the entire ESPN sunday night crewI am so glad that Dierdork will not be announcing at the Bears game, is there anybody worse than he is???
Amen.yes, the entire ESPN sunday night crewI am so glad that Dierdork will not be announcing at the Bears game, is there anybody worse than he is???
Paul Maguire. By a nose.I am so glad that Dierdork will not be announcing at the Bears game, is there anybody worse than he is???
You mean twice the distance?actually i think they should make the rule to be, if a defensive penalty would be half the distance, than a similar distance offensive penalty should be half the distance away from the goal line. They should change the 1/2 the distance penalties if the yardage allowed for the foul still wouldn't put the ball into the endzone. Similar penalties on both teams and the Dolts lost 2 yards in the transaction.
That wouldn't fix the problem. False start from the 4 would be 2 yard penalty moving it back to the 6. Same yardage penalty on the def then would be 3 yards moving the ball to the 4. Still hurts 1 team more for an equal yardage penalty.actually i think they should make the rule to be, if a defensive penalty would be half the distance, than a similar distance offensive penalty should be half the distance away from the goal line. They should change the 1/2 the distance penalties if the yardage allowed for the foul still wouldn't put the ball into the endzone. Similar penalties on both teams and the Dolts lost 2 yards in the transaction.
One way to think about it is that the rule never changes:The penalty yardage is always the smaller of the textbook yard penalty or half the distance to the goal.At any point where the penalty would exceed 1/2 the distance. So at the 29, a 15 yard penalty is 14 1/2.Quick question. At what point do they start taking half the distance to the goal line? An offsides on the 6 yard line gives them room to get to the 1 right? But it obviously doesn't happen that way.
I'd imagine they'd go for it on 4th if the third down play had been more successful.Terrible sequence for the Colts there. Why run it on 3rd and goal from the 3 if you aren't going to go for it on 4th?
Agreed... Just one of many BOGUS calls! Or a lack thereof...Whoa. Haynes wasn't down when he tripped??
Sorry, just looked at it again. No call, the right call.Agreed... Just one of many BOGUS calls! Or a lack thereof...Whoa. Haynes wasn't down when he tripped??
