Game Thread PL1 - NY Jets V New England (1 Viewer)

Jets take a big step forward by making the playoffs

in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year.

But when everything is on the line,

the Master will win againt the student.

J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets 17

New England 24

Definitely rooting for the J-E-T-S.... a pissed-off Belichick makes me happy.

Unfortunately, I'd be very surprised if this was a one-possession game in the 4th Q.

You don't tug on Brady's cape at home in the 1st round.

N.Y.J. 13

PATS 27

As in any big matchup - I try to look for guidance from Star Wars - history has shown that in the first real meeting the master usually schools the pupil. Darth Bellijerk has the experience and is more comfortable in these situations.

However, Jets playing with house money which is dangerous. Nothing to lose and great special teams. I am preparing myself for a Jet loss but would not be shocked with a huge upset!

Its a rare week where if you're a Jet fan, you can sit back and enjoy. Unless something crazy happens (ala AJ Duhey, Gastineau roughing the passer, fake spike, etc) most Jet fans I know will be happy today regardless of the score!

The Green and White finally have a future as well as the present.

Going out on a limb - Jets 24 Pats 21 - Nugent 45 yard FG wins it late.

If the Jets defense play a decent game the Pats will score at best 17 to 20 points .

Can the Jets score 21 against the Pats , i think so .

Jets 21 Pats 17 .

Jets (18th offense, 6th defense)

Patriots (7th offense, 2nd defense)

Jets outclassed on both sides of the ball there.

Efficiency - yards divided by points (scored and allowed).

nyj 16.11 O, 17.99 D

nwe 14.44 O, 19.87 D

Jets outclassed on both sides of the ball there as well.

Patriots +148 point differential

Jets +21 Point differential

Turnover differential:

Patriots: +8

Jets: 0

Everything says Patriots win today. If you want a caveat, its that these stats aren't as strong in the wild card round. They get progressively stronger the deeper in the playoffs you go.

The New England Patriots have declared WR Brandon Childress, OG Gene Mruczkowski, DL Le Kevin Smith, DL Marquise Hill, FS Rashad Baker, SS Rodney Harrison, QB Vinny Testaverde, OT Wesley Britt inactive for Week 18.

The New York Jets have declared LB Anthony Schlegel, DL Dave Ball, RB Derrick Blaylock, OL Ed Blanton, QB Kellen Clemens, RB Kevan Barlow, OL Na'Shan Goddard, RB Stacy Tutt inactive for Week 18.

Wilfork should play and he got hurt last game. Warren should play and he was out last game. This should mean the Jets have a much harder time running the ball. They didn't have some 200 yard back last time but some runs were just way too easy. I think it was "the straw that broke the camel's back" last game. BTW Mangold was terrific last game and Seymour was pretty quiet at times.

Still, I gotta think the Pats DL is much better. If Seymour makes a big play early, jets could be in for a long day. Pats need to get him fired up.

I've seen alot of Jets games and seen Pennington throw some deep ones. With Rodney out I expect he'll throw a few today. I hope that will silence some of the arm strength critics.

I think Coles is the best in the NFL at getting to a spot. He is so quick laterally the play is real fast and somewhat underappreciated by others IMO.

Mangini did well last game but I still give the coaching edge to BB. Seems like Mangini thrived because he knew what BB would do. I expect BB to use some new stuff and have an immediate reaction. I'm quite curious how Mangini will react. I could probably write something similar for BB vs Mangini. In game changes are the key here IMO. While that's obvious in any game I think they'll be a ton and it'll be quite a chess match.

Pats have had their own S named Sanders that has made some nice plays lately. He's also been burned. Real curious about him.

There was some articles this past week on Rhodes and how the Pats were gonna take him if you feel like reading. Seems they misjudged how late he'd go. I didn't know he was a college QB too. It's kind of odd how many former college QBs have done so well for Mangini. It makes me wonder if they'll draft one again in 07 draft. Why not? They seem smart and seem to be great athletes.

Anyhow rooting for the D, that Brad Smith is annoying. He doesn't play, then comes in and gets 10 yards and sits back down.

Crazy prediction but I'm figuring he gets more use this week than the typical regular season game. That guy worries me.

Pats DBs hurt pats dbs hurt...all week, well the Jets have DB injuries too and I like Brady's chances going against a backup.

Hank Poteat reminds me of old Otis Smith. He touches more footballs than most DBs ever do but he's not very good in coverage.

Good no BarlowThat Tutt is a former QB and he plays FB....interesting player

I'd say IF it's a close game and they lose, they'll be quite  If it's a blowout, totally agree.

I guess we'll see how well Mangini can make adjustments on the fly regarding that Caldwell matchup.

Bad mistake by Gaffney; if he falls down it's a first down. He either lost track of where he was or got greedy.

Good/lucky stand by the Jets there. A score here is nice, but they have to get a first down or two to get some confidence on that side of the ball. Can't go three and out here.
