Well, the prevailing thought around town is "Super Bowl or bust" for the Ravens. I'm not as optimistic, though I think they're pretty good. They had a lot go right for them last year & had a tendency to play to the level of the competition. They're 13 point favorites today against a team that seems to be in a bit of disarray & a QB who's never won an NFL start. The Ravens should win handily, though I'm old enough to temper my enthusiasm & expectations.

However, it's week one - I'm sipping some suds & Sambuca so I go Ravens 27, Chiefs 6. Rice gets a TD run, Heap catches one, and they get one quirky one (D/ST/Flacco run).

Ravens Oline just dominating early play. I don't want to base an opinion on one quarter against an overmatched team but this is the best I've felt about the oline in years. There's experience, size and talent. Oher may prove to be one of the top picks of the '09 draft.

:wall: O line looks fantastic. So does Flacco, every pass but one has been either a completion or put where only a Raven can catch it.

Oof. Early momentum gone, offense stagnant. And now the blocked punt for a TD puts KC right back in it just before the half.

Is Bowe out there or are the Chiefs just struggling throwing the ball?
I, I don't really know. They've been 3 and out every possession and I haven't seen him targeted. To correct my earlier post, it wasn't just before the half.Flacco already has 174 yards passing.

Chiefs with more punt block yards than offensive yards.

Hold on, just got a first down.

Don't understand why the Chiefs didn't take a shot downfield on 2nd and 3rd down there. Not much to lose from midfield and a chance to tie it up.

KC defense has tightened up. Ratbirds early momentum deflated.

It is obvious Croyle has not got the system down....Haley is in his grill every time he comes off the field. I could see Croyle cut as soon as Cassel is healthy.

Also, to whoever asked, Flowers is injured and inactive.

That KC is only down 3 is friggin unreal.

Ugly INT by Flacco and Derrick Johnson returns it 70 yards. Chiefs with the ball at the goal line (1st down after a penalty to boot).

That was a pretty authoritative drive but Flacco did indeed just about throw it away in the end zone. Good to see Unibrow Joe looking for Heap at the goal line.

If they follow last year's script, expect to see a lot of pounding inside the tackles from here on out. They've got plenty of fresh legs to lug the rock and Michael Oher is already a pretty good drive blocker.

Dang, Chiefs won't go away. Big play to Bradley and then the long long FG. Give 'em credit for being right in this one.

Is Ayanbadejo really 2nd on the depth chart behind Gooden? I thought they had some other guys.

Mr. Irrelevant looks like a keeper. He was nails all camp and that 53-yarder looked like it would have been good from 63.

KC has major holes, but they're being coached well. It's a damn shame their starting QB and best defensive player are out.

Bowe is just so consistent for FF purposes. Three targets all game and yet he has 13.5 points.

Chiefs tie it up with Brodie Croyle at QB! This is hilarious.

Well, that was a sweet play by Flacco and Clayton. Getting pushed around like they were, I can't blame KC for sending everybody on that third down but the Ravens read it really well and executed perfectly.

300 yards and 3 TDs for Joe now.

Important to remember it ain't over until the final whistle. Flacco (and Orton) looking like duds just minutes before their late game stat busters.

??? Flacco looked good all game. He made three passes that were cringe-worthy. Hell, he had a dominant first quarter. I don't think Flacco looked like a dud for any part of this game.

Better than I thought for KC, but man, we need Cassel and Flowers back ASAP.

The garbage TD at the end saved A LOT of people some $$$ seeing as how BAL was favored by 13 I believe.

With the Chiefs rebuilding from ground zero almost as much as the Lions, it's hard to get a grip on today's performance by either team. On the plus side, KC made hardly any major mistakes, made a big play on special teams and another one on defense, got a crisp and efficient drive from the offense late in the game with the game very much on the line and unveiled a kicker with 50+ range, which could be big in the future.

On the negative side, they gave up 500 yards in offense to the Ravens, who are hardly the '07 Patriots.

For Baltimore, this game was a reverse image of many of last year's contests, where they dominated the scoreboard but played the games much much tighter. Today they were clearly the dominant team but couldn't bury the feisty Chiefs. Frankly, I don't know what this means. Maybe we'll find out more in San Diego next week.
