Game Thread W1 - NY Giants at Washington (1 Viewer)

I would have given the 1st quarter a solid B for the Giants. 2nd quarter? C- at best.
And probably the flip for the Redskins. The offense looked lost in the first quarter and then they were moving in high gear in the 2nd.Neither D playing too well.

On the offensive side of the ball, Eli is clearly not comfortable yet with who will be his Steve Smith. It looks like it will be Manningham, but it isn't quite working just yet. Perhaps having a solid 3rd choice out there will make it work a little better as defenses don't focus on Mario and Nicks. As for Nicks - stud. Absolute stud. Big play ability and moves the chains. The WR screen he has caught three times is money each time just because of his size. The running game seems to be getting some steam under it - Jacobs is running hard and Bradshaw looks good, although not active in the passing game at all. The O-line is going to be hit and miss for at least the first few weeks.

On defense, it's clear the injuries have taken their toll already. With Osi and Justin in there, this is a different unit. As it is, the D-line is still pretty solid and the LB's have surprisingly not been that bad. The secondary is going to be a very open and obvious weakness. It appears that back to back plays against the secondary makes them fold and cascades the problem. It will be imperative for the D-line to get pressure to stop drives and break up plays from happening back to back.

I'm not down at all, and probably would have to say they are about what I thought they would be so far if I was being realistic. The injuries are going to hurt and the secondary is weak and I don't know if it can get better. Eli will get the offense moving and if Jacobs is back to his form a few years ago, the offense won't be an issue at all.

Overall - this team will go as far as the D-line (by doing its job and hiding the weakness of the secondary) takes them. Of course, it's only one half of the first game. I'm just happy football's back.

Excellent, informative post. Thanks a lot

just came by to see what Fatness is complaining about ;)

We are a franchise on the rise. A long way to go, but we're night and day better than last year.

Wow - some massive hits on the punt coverage all over the place. You got Jacked material abounds.

And at this point, the Giants special teams requires Tums in hand as soon as the ball is snapped.

I'm happy with what I see so far. But keep in mind this is a Giants team that has been ravaged with injuries and doesn't have it's top 3 defenseive players. This is a game The Redskins have no business losing.
