Game Thread W10 - Buffalo V New England (1 Viewer)

Ben Jarvis looking decent today. Nice strong run just now, broke a tackle or two. Not spectacular, but he's been consistent the past 2 weeks and hasn't fumbled the ball at all.

Finally a big stop on defense. The Patriots have 3rd and short entirely too often and they have been easily converted. Now Edwards needs to get more accurate and march this team down the field.

That's game. Edwards has taken a MAJOR step backwards over the past 3 or 4 games. Making terrible decisions, terrible throws, and awful audibles. This guy is looking more like Chad Pennington v2 rather than Tom Brady v2.

I think it's just an issue of teams figuring out the Bills offense and defense. They're not fooling anyone any more.

Another decent run for Green-Ellis. 17 carries so far today. Can't trust any NE RB gonig forward, but he's definitely getting the bulk of the work and it's not really a blow out.

How are you going to win the game when you just punt the ball away inside Pats territory every time?
IMO, Jauron doesn't fit well with this team at all right now. His conservative nature doesn't work on a team that can't run the ball and doesn't play very good defense. At some point you HAVE to start throwing the ball downfield and you HAVE to start blitzing the QB. Oh well, another year without making the playoffs it looks like. Nothing that Bills fans haven't seen before.

Third week in a row in which we were outplayed on both offense and defense, and outcoached by the opposing staff. I can't remember seeing a team collapse this fast before.

honestly, right now it doesn't look like the bills have the qb to throw it downfield either. outside of the kicking game, this team really doesn't do anything well.

I agree with what you wrote above, but I honestly can't figure out why you would punt at the end of the first half when you've got 4th and 3 inside their 40. That made no sense. It's like they're not even trying to win the game.

Yeah, Edwards and his little short passes work pretty well when they have a lead and a defense that can stop the opponent. But teams are just stacking the box and bringing the safeties up to fill the short routes because they know that Edwards isn't going to throw the ball deep. Evans has to be going nuts.Wow. I don't know how they call that holding call. That was ridiculous. Stroud just drove the guy to the ground, there wasn't a hold there.

Absolutely. Jauron has no balls at all. It made no sense to punt there just like it made no sense to punt the ball in the 4th quarter on 4th down either. I don't care that it was like 4th and 11. Now the Patriots are basically going to run ELEVEN minutes off of the clock on their drive and close out the game. Unreal.

First to worst.
Well, the last 3 weeks have shown that they're pretty clearly the worst team in the division.3 must-win games in a row coming up against Cleveland, KC, and SF in the next 3 weeks. They lose one of those games and head into the final 3 division games + Denver at 7-5, it's over.

I think they might be better than Miami, but you're right. I bought into the hype of the hot start. I've been a Bills fan for too long to have done that, should have known better.

Buffalo got off to a really hot start by beating up on nobodies. The schedule got tougher the last three weeks, and injuries hit, and the result wasn't too surprising.I still think all four teams in the AFCE are very close to even. But with these injuries, Buffalo is probably the worst of the bunch. Jets-Pats game will be very interesting; those two teams have been very inconsistent this year.

What a joke. These refs have been so one sided it's a total farce. Not that the Bills had a chance at this point anyway, but how the heck isn't there even a video review on that!?

The team has been so bad for so long, it was nice to have something to hope for....I think most people were pretty wary though, seeing as how they didn't play a good team and laid an egg against Arizona. Looking like just another Bills season...a decent team in a great division that gets pushed around by the other AFC East teams.

This is pretty much exactly what I was getting at.

Seriously, I almost want to quit watching the NFL after a call like that. It was CLEARLY touched by a Patriot player first. How can the refs not only reverse the original call when the original call was CLEARLY correct, but then the review booth not even call for a review!? I give up. This is why some people believe that the NFL is in the tank for certain teams. First the absolutely ludicrous holding call on Stroud, then the absolutely atrocious call on the onside kick. I think I may be done with the NFL this year. So many bad officiating calls this year and so much blatant favortism by the league in doling out fines and suspensions.

:thumbdown:The Bills got beat, plain and simple. I want to bag on the refs as much as anyone, but 1 or 2 calls going the other way doesn't change the outcome of the game. The Bills sucked. Again.

Of course the Bills were going to lose the game anyway and they were badly overmatched. But there's still no excuse for calls like that. That's just piling it on. There was ZERO reason for that onside kick to not be reviewed. The Bills are bad enough, they don't need the refs making terrible calls against them on top of their own ineptitude.

One thing that worried me is that when Trent Edwards was on the bench, they kept showing him just sitting on the bench. Not getting in anyone's face, not trying to rally the troops....just kinda sitting there.

I just watched the onside kick a few times on Tivo.

Looks to have hit a Buffalo player first to me but it was tough to tell conclusively. It would have been a tough one to overturn.

Real nice effort by the Pats...the third week in a row they have played well. The D has stepped up and Cassell looks more comfortable each week. If the Pats continue down this path they have a great shot to win the division.

*BenJarvis is doing what the Pats wanted Maroney to do. Get tough yards and get an extra yard or two after contact. He doesn't go down easily like Maroney does. If he continues to play like this it will be interesting to see if Maroney is in a different uniform next year.

*The O line is playing well in both the rush and pass area.

*Mayo was a great draft pick. The kid already plays like a veteran.

*Guyton looks like a find as an undrafted rookie free agent (same as BenJarvis).

*Seymour has regained his form after two injury-filled years of mediocre at best play.

*Jauron seems like a great coach to take a bad team to respectability but I'm not sure he can take them to the next level.

*The Buffalo D needs some playmakers. They didn't play badly but the Pats definetly weren't under durress.

*The Bills never really tested the Pats secondary which makes zero sense.

Next week's game is huge. The Pats already have one win over the Jets and a win on Thursday gives them the tie-breaker and control of the division.

He's taking on the personality of his coach. Just sit there with a blank look on your face no matter what. So what if you're losing, it's just a game.Anyway, great game by Cassel today. He has developed a TON since coming in that first game of the season. Mayo had a great game as well. The Patriots reload better than just about any other team out there.

How are you going to win the game when you just punt the ball away inside Pats territory every time?
IMO, Jauron doesn't fit well with this team at all right now. His conservative nature doesn't work on a team that can't run the ball and doesn't play very good defense. Our inability to go down the field is not Edwards' fault. Defenses are simply playing against the deep ball to Evans (and we don't have any other deep threats to worry about) so Edwards is only taking what is being given to him.The larger picture is the completely atrocious play calling we have seen the last four games. We run the ball 90% of the time that Edwards lines up under center and pass the ball 90% of the time that Edwards is in the shotgun. We could not telegraph our plays any more than what we are doing now. To make matters worse, we have abandoned the running game far too early in every game doing this losing skid. How could Edwards or any other quarterback be successful when defenses know exactly what we are doing??????Our offensive line was actually getting a good push on our running plays for most of the day (arguably the best they have played all year) and yet Schonert consistently resorted to the shotgun in the futile passing game. Our defensive play calling has been no better with Jauron and Fewell's insistence to play a soft zone for the whole game. It never worked last year and it has not worked at all this year and yet we continue to use. Our defense is like bleeding to death by 1,000 papercuts. :headbang:

Parrish? Agreed on the playcalling though. It was like New England had the perfect defense for every single play. When it was a passing play, they had guys back in coverage. When it was a running play, they had 8 in the box. I'll disagree on the offensive line. They got decent push on a few plays where they got 4 yard gains, but Lynch and Jackson were still getting hit at the line or behind it at least 50% of the time.

Parrish has never been a deep threat even when we have Reed on the field to take away some of his coverage. I think his long TD last year against the Patriots is the only deep route he has ever caught on the Bills. Teams are able to take him out of his route too easily with press coverage. You are right about our RBs dealing with clogged holes on half of our running plays today, but I attribute that more to the predictable play calling rhythm Schonert put us in. We had great success opening holes (relatively speaking for this team) in the first quarter and early fourth quarter when the Pats were expecting us to pass. Otherwise, as you said, the Patriots magically knew to put 8 in the box on most of our runs and flood the zone on our passing plays.

Today's play calling was Pendry-esque.
