Game Thread W12 - Carolina V Cleveland (1 Viewer)

Panthers early touchdown. Goodson and Stewart both looking good running the ball, but Goodson getting more carries--and the TD, as he exploded through the line from 26 yards out. Clausen made a nice third down completion to atone for an intentional grounding a couple of plays earlier.

Browns drive down the field. Delhomme looking solid with pass-heavy playcalling as they get to the Panthers 6 Hillis almost completes a touchdown pass on a halfback option to Watson, but his throw was errant. Then, another intentional grounding call for loss of down. On 3rd and long, Moore catches it briefly in the endzone, but then gets pummeled by Sherrod Martin--helmet-to-helmet hit. 1st and goal.

Hillis then scampers in from 9 yards out. Touchdown.

The second passing attempt was an error in scoring which they corrected. Hillis' only attempt was on the halfback option.

Clausen facing heavy pressure. Poorly thrown incompletion (almost a fumble) and poorly thrown incompletion (almost an interception) resulted. Browns ball again. Time to feed the Hillis?

Carolina: Defensive holding, roughing the passer. Penalties keep extending drives. Hillis second touchdown of the day. The offense is definitely more open with Delhomme in there instead of McCoy, but Hillis is running strong and carrying defenders with him.

That excellent first drive by the Panthers? Seems like an eon ago. Two plays in a row, immediately after the handoff the ball carrier is tackled. Browns stepped up the pressure and overwhelming the Carolina OL, whether it's pass or run.

FU Evan Moore, that was about to be Hillis TD #3
No doubt. In Moore's defense, there were like 5 guys ripping at him, but Hillis owners have to be disappointed.

After Robiskie's catch, "this is far and away Robiskie's most productive game in Cleveland". He's 3 for 25.

There's Hillis' third touchdown. An 18-yard run on a pitch to the outside, , then a 6-yarder up the middle. Nimble feet and powerful legs = great combination.

Clausen makes a good play to evade pressure and complete to Goodson, then another nice completion to Fiametta, two good runs by Stewart.

When the OL has been decent this game, plays have been made.

Wow, Steve Smith--escapes the tackle of Mike Adams and gets the first down. Still got the moves.

Key to the success the last couple of drives--time to throw the ball downfield. Nothing very deep, but these 10-12 yard strikes are key.

lol announcer "the running game was really opened up by Jake Delhomme who came out firing at will" 5 seconds later, horrendous pass by Delhomme to Beason.

After a fumble at the end of the half which the Browns recovered, Delhomme telegraphs a pass on the first play after the half and it's intercepted. Great field position for the Panthers. On third down, Clausen hurls a pass towards the sidelines, which LaFell catches--but the refs say he stepped out of bounds first. Replays seem to indicate he didn't. Fox rightfully challenging it.

Oh man. Refs claim LaFell lost control of the ball when he landed--and it did move slightly--but it never escaped his control.

Panthers miss a field goal. Poor bastards.

Man, I couldn't have been more wrong about Delhomme this year. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and thought he would bring steadiness and stability that the Browns haven't had in a long time. He looks like a rookie every time he feels pressure. Just horrible.

To be honest, I don't think Delhomme has ever been associated with steadiness or stability. He's a high-risk, high-reward passer. Makes plenty of exciting plays, but plenty of mistakes as well.

I swear, every time Hillis runs I think for a second "ah, that'll be only a couple of yards", and then he makes a little cut or bowls over someone and turns it into 8-9.

When your comparison is to Quinn/Anderson, your definition of stability will differ greatly than most.

That was an odd play by Clausen. He could have run for the first down, but after getting the first few yards passed it like an overhand lateral out to Goodson to pick up the rest of the yards. Just tuck it in, Jimmy, don't get cute.

Good point, sir. Good point.

Man, Clausen goes down so easy... I never seen a QB just fall down when someone gets near him in the backfield.

Stewart's looking better than he has all season. Close to 100 yards on the day after that 31-yard gain.
