What exactly happened on the last play of the game? Culpepper rolled right and appeared to be sacked but he got up and threw the ball as if the play was still alive. The announcers first called it a sack, then said Culpepper was not down. The cameras cut to the sidelines to show Holmgren and the Seahawks celebrating while the football was apparently in the air. The next shot is of a Viking holding a football in the end zone but his expression and body language indicated he had not caught it. The announcers yelled that there could be a defensive penalty because Seattle players ran onto the field prematurely after they thought the game had ended. Then my FOX affiliate cut away to another game without explanation. Was the play ruled a sack, an incomplete pass, a penalty? What?
Ruled a sack eventually. What happened was, Culpepper got sacked, but rolled over the lineman and appeared to not let his knee touch the ground - got up and threw incomplete into the endzone (tipped by a Seattle DB) Upon looking at the replay, his knee actually did touch, so he was down in the backfield.
