Game Thread W17 - NY Giants V Minnesota (1 Viewer)

Skol!

Went to the game last Sunday and what a mistake that was. It seems that the Falcons have had the Vikings' number for many seasons going all the way back to Bartkowski.

Too bad the Giants also seem to have the Vikes' number but at least they are keeping many of their starters out of the lineup.

For those that still care, the first Viking series was pretty lame. A fall down on a Peterson rush and an overthrow from T Jackson to Berrian. Punt.

Giants punt. After a sack by the Viking's Leber, Manning went deep to Hixon on a 3 & 11. Hixon had beat CB Griffin (no surprise there) but Manning overthrew him.

Griffin is just not starting material. He's done some good things this season but he has a history of failure to cover that isn't immediately washed away because he happened to be in the right place at the right time (fumble recoveries).

Oooh! Tim Roth is going to star in a new show on Fox.

Vikings are making a drive and it has nothing to do with Adrian Peterson. T Jackson has made some key 3rd down passes to keep the chains moving. He still takes some chances that gives this Vikings fan the willys yet he's made some promising strides toward respectability.

Back to Peterson for a moment: he's done very little this game although he has had opportunity. Any other Sunday and EdCat would be here to suggest that Peterson should probably just retire but that's some fun I'll be forced to imagine this Sunday I guess.

Vikings punt after a strong stand by the Giants.

I'm a little disturbed with all the folks in the Internet I'm still taking to myself online.

I'm listening to you, face!

...and now the Giants punt.

Sam Rosen **** Stockton just said that "each team is feeling each other out."

Sounds hot.

Adrian Peterson just fumbled the ball while the announcers were discussing his struggles hanging on to the ball.

Let's see who recovers...Vikings!

Yeesh.

Two big plays by the Vikings Chester Taylor and they nearing FG range.

I saw that Peterson has carried the ball something like 350 times this season which seems pretty reckless when you have a quality back like Taylor on the team.

Peterson just hung on to the ball to the tune of a 67 yard TD. Penalty on defense declined!

Vikings 10 - Giants 0

If I were a Giants fan, I would extremely worried about their run defense. It has been pretty bad over the last month.

Giants have a 33 yard TD run from Ward. Looks like a penalty against them as well - illegal formation which costs them 6 points.

Looks like the Vikings have weathered a really nice kick return by the Giants.

Carney with a 51 yard attempt and it's...good!

Vikings 10 - Giants 3

Aside from the Peterson run, a nice Taylor screen pass, and Ward's runback, this game been kinda tedious.

Vikings punt after another inept drive.

Jackson has a worrisome habit of holding the ball up really high over his head when taking a sack. It looks like he's still hoping to deliver the ball much, much after it's too late. If he doesn't give up an interception or fumble he's going to get flagged for intentional grounding which is just a brutal penalty.

Giants starting behind their own 10 and the first pass attempt is knocked down.

Wow. Really nice catch by Amani Toomer to make the first down. That's only the Giant's 3rd conversion.

I can't imagine how many seasons Toomer has played. I bet he was at Michigan prior to Brady playing there.

Thanks to a nice pass to Steve Smith (on the heels of a nice run by Ahmad Bradshaw) the Giants are looking to score. If they can't get in the endzone they almost certainly should get a FG from their current field position.

The Giants settle for another Carney FG.

Vikings 10 - Giants 6

1:03 remaining in the half. Think the Vikings will actually make a push to score again? They have 1 TO left.

4th & 1 and the Vikings go for it with a QB draw.

It failed and the Giants take the ball on downs with :27 left and a 1 TO.

Ball on the Giants own 45.

Hixon with a 17 yard reception and steps out of bounds.

Any guesses who Hixon caught the ball against?

Hixon catches another reception for about 10 - 15 yards. Should be a much easier FG attempt now.

That would be Griffin getting beat twice on this drive by the way.

Carney FG is good.

Vikings 10 - Giants 9

:horns:?

D Ward continues his assault on the Vikings defense. His numbers don't reflect a penalty (or two) or his effort. You can tell he's been ready to break a good solid run.

Giants are still playing hard. Positive here though is that Chicago is getting beat... god bless backing in and likely having to face Dallas. Yikes.

Is that David Carr?

Eli is out of the game and the Giants just completed what is likely a 15 - 20 yard pass.

I should add that Eli is not hurt.

David Carr just hit a 23 yard TD to Dixon. Winfield was beat and it wasn't all that close given the great pass from Carr.

Vikings 10 - Giants 16

Bobby Wade with a 21 yard reception to take the ball to the Giants 40. You could hear the crowd react with a little bit of relief. The atmosphere is awfully quiet for all the wrong reasons.

Vikings drag Rice across scrimmage and the Giants Webster almost stole the 3rd down pass for what could have been a TD.

Punt.

This fan needs to see something positive.

Wow. David Carr was just blasted by Kevin Williams - just pounded him to the ground. To Carr's credit, he got right up. Didn't look comfortable but didn't hesitate for more than a second or two.

Giants punt.

what thu???

2-17-NYG 41 (4:09) A.Peterson left end to MIN 43 for -16 yards (B.Kehl, K.Phillips).

1-10-NYG 34 (4:49) (Shotgun) A.Peterson right end to NYG 41 for -7 yards (D.Clark; B.Kehl).

3rd and 33???

I feel so much better.

41 yard reception by Bobby Wade. Ball on Giant's 15 and Adrian Peterson just drove right up the middle on the next play.

Vikings get another first down within the 10 yard line of the Giants.

Sam Madison is currently down with an injury on the field. Doubt he'll be back this game.

Giants intercept the attempted TD pass by Jackson.

Jackson threw it into heavy coverage and the Giants James Butler nabbed it with no problem. Ran the ball out to the Giants own 40.

Childress should be fired immediately if they lose this game.
The Vikings are playing against what is essentially the Giants JV squad on offense. Childress has the job of getting his team in the right frame of mind to win the game against a (JV) team that they should beat. He has one quarter to possibly define his season and I'm not at all sure what to expect from that.Who would you want to replace him?

What's the point of going to the playoffs if they can't even compete with the Giants' scout team.
