Game Thread W2 - Kansas City v Denver (1 Viewer)

Andy Hicks

Footballguy
Welcome to Week 2

Once the game kicks off this thread will be pinned, but for now it will run on its own merits.

Please provide your thoughts, pre, during and after the game.

Remember that not everyone will be watching this game, so if you could provide detailed analysis it would be much appreciated. ***PLEASE BE CIVIL***

Things like 'Go Reggie' aren't what we are looking for.

Why will team X win?

Who is the QB targetting?

How are the lines looking?

Who's running the ball well?

Who looks in over his head?

Who's injured (also reference this in the injury thread which will be created once the sunday games are live)

Anything that you think will be of benefit to someone not watching the game or who doesn't care about your fantasy team.

Post game analysis, in particular is what we want to see.

Go for it

Why will team X win?
Denver. Because even if the Chiefs can make it a defensive struggle (which is far from a sure-thing), the Broncos are still favored with a stronger running game, defense and home-field advantage. More than likely, the Chiefs will make more mistakes than Denver, the Broncos will capitalize and finish the Chiefs offense with a dose of Bell/Bell.
Who is the QB targetting?
Huard will not have time to find Parker or Kennison deep, and I believe he'll look for Gonzalez over the middle and Johnson in the flat/over the middle as much as 80% of the time.Plummer should be able to spread the ball around. Who he likes is anyone's guess; my guess is that he will look for some explosive plays to Javon Walker down the field. Rod Smith, however, is a constant, and he may be the yardage leader.
Who's running the ball well?
The Chiefs are definitely a better team against the run this season, but they have a history of playing terrible versus Denver (really, most teams do), especially in Denver. As always with the Broncos' RBBC, it's your gamble who you play. But neither would be bad plays in my book. Tatum Bell, who I think will get more carries, is the guy I would -- and will -- go with.Larry Johnson will get more carries this week, but he's up against a much stiffer defense. The Bengals were able to really key in on him during the second half of last week's game; the Broncos will be able to do that for four quarters. If the Chiefs can move the ball at all between the 20's, I like Johnson's chances at getting red zone touches. Whether or not he can convert them against a tough defense is another story.
Who's injured (also reference this in the injury thread which will be created once the sunday games are live)
Obviously Trent Green. But no one is significantly hurt for the Chiefs. Courtney Brown is out for the Broncos, but they're in good shape, too, health-wise.

KC is not even trying to pass, lining up 3 TE/1WR sets and feeding LJ the ball. Hope you did not start Kennison. Gonzo might be a option, but LJ will get worn out.

0-0 after the 1st quarter. Very sluggish game so far. KC 75 net yds/ DEN 27 yds

DEN 3 and out to start the 2nd. KC has the ball around the 30.

T Bell 5 carry / 18 yds

M Bell 1 carry / 2

1 recep : 12

i must have a serious backlog of horrible karma.first i said "Deuce McAllister is done". 20 seconds later he rips off a 23yd td.now i ask for some Rod Smith asplosion and he looks to have been concussed on that play.i picked up Wali Lundy in my Yahoo draft.. guy lays consecutive eggs.

maybe i should. i'm facing off against him today. :mellow:Simms is right.. this game IS flying by. wow. 55 minutes and it's almost halftime.

So I guess this is the point in the season where we again start to wonder if this will be Elam's last with the Broncos (44 yd FG missed wide left)

god Michael Bennett looks horrible. he's so tentative with the ball.

(now watch him rip an 80 yarder while dragging Champ Bailey for the last 10  )

LJ 55 yds rushing/ 41 rec

KC 1st down w/ 14 seconds in the red zone

9 seconds, ball at the 12, KC burns their last timeout. Lines up for a 29 yd FG.Good, KC up 3-0.

**halftime**

DEN has not established the run at all.

T Bell 5 carry/18 yards

Plummer has been looking for the under receivers, DEN is not taking any shots dep downfield. R Smith left the game, no word on his return.

KC is playing very conservative, run heavy offense. S Parker is the only WR getting any looks, Gonzo 2 targets for 1 rec so far, using LJ as outlet.

KC's running game finding some lanes, but not really getting large chunks of rushing yds.

Key point: Chiefs tackles are making progress.

Kevin Sampson >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Jordan Black

And Kyle Turley is growing each game.

Weird stats in this one. Damon Huard 11/12 and Larry Johnson running strong, but only 3 points to show for it.
The Chiefs fumbled away 3 more, and then went conservative with 0:09 left in the half and didn't take one last shot.

Boy Plummer looks awful. 3rd down and 3 and he tries to squeeze it in between 2 defenders 20 yards down the field....Interception!

My Brooks/Plummer QBBC may give me an ulcer.
