Game Thread W2 - Tampa Bay V Buffalo (1 Viewer)

How about that, Edwards finally throws the ball downfield to a WR and it's a touchdown. Hopefully we'll see a lot more of that.

Sigh. 42 yard TD to Winslow up the middle. The Bills clearly have some issues covering the TE down the field. I have a feeling they're bringing a safety up to help on run defense and the LBers aren't bumping the TE at all.

Byron Leftwich looks like he moves in slow motion.

When he's walking. When he drops back. His throwing motion.

Has anyone ever heard him? Does he sound like a record player on the wrong speed?

How's Caddy looking? His stat line suggests that talk of him becoming the featured back was premature.

I'm saying it now: The Bills offense is better with Fred Jackson than Marshawn Lynch.
I've been saying it for three years now. He's a great receiver, he's more explosive than Lynch and he gets tough yards almost as well as Lynch. Seems pointless to make Lynch the feature guy just because he was a first round pick.

Hey! We have an Eric Moulds sighting!

He must have made the All-Bills team. He was standing behind Marv Levy and Andre Reed, next to Thurman.

yeah....i'm sure a 28 yrs old journeyman is better

I swear, nobody can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory like the Buffalo Bills.

TB is just hanging around.....hanging around.....it was 17-0, now it's less than a 7 point difference....

Dear Trent Edwards,

You have WRs. You have very good WRs. In fact, your top 3 WRs may be the fastest 3 on anyone's depth chart.

STOP LOOKING BETWEEN THE HASH MARKS AND THROW THEM THE DAMN BALL.

Signed,

Flysack

Edwards isn't even looking anywhere near Owens. TO could be wide open and Trent would have no idea.

Yeah, I don't lime that at all. Especially in the red zone. It makes no sense not to toss it up for him to go after. Then again, TO had a costly drop last week and a drop this week that would have gone for a TD. Perhaps Edwards just doesn't have any confidence in TO.

other than the awful, awful interception on an overthrow to Evans in triple coverage...Edwards deep passes have been right on target in this game. If Owens makes that earlier catch, could be looking at 3 bombs for TDs in the game.

 I love when guys spout off when they don't really know what they're talking about. When was the last time Lynch ran for 165 yards and 190 total yards in an NFL game?

Fred Jackson is the best #2 RB in the league and he's better than some #1s. GB Coe College.

McKelvin owner here...can Aaron or somebody that watch the game fill us in on why Buffalo went away from him in the return game as the game progressed?

I highly doubt you've been saying it for three years, but for the time being, I (and the local pundits) agree with you. Assuming he plays well next week, I'd like to see Jackson get the start and the bulk of the carries when Lynch returns in Week 4. I don't see how any coaching staff in their right mind can bench him right now. However, the offensive line play has been really, really good thus far this season. It's a little unfair to judge Lynch when we haven't seen him in a game situation with the new O-line.

Owens and Evans were doubled nearly all game.
thanks. very difficult to tell that from watching the tv coverage. makes sense though given how open the middle of the field was.also, looked like they were in 1-on-1 on all of the big pass plays. Evans beat Barber for his TD and then TO beat Talib for his.

The only time there was single coverage on the outside was when Tampa would crowd the box and leave just 1 safety deep. They tried (unsuccessfully) to disguise the coverage by having a safety (Phillips?) up in the box and Piscitelli playing centerfield, only to have the two of them split and help the corners on the outside before the snap.I realize that was probably tough to see on the TV feed, but they were each doubled (or at least bracketed with safety help) well over 50% of the Bills pass plays. That's why Schouman, Reed, etc. kept getting open over the middle. One thing I was slightly confused about was the number of times Evans and Owens both just ran streaks to draw the defenses. I know the concept is to stretch the D, open up the middle of the field...but there were a TON of plays where it was clear that one or both of them were simply decoys running streaks to draw the CB and safety over the top.

I wasn't trying to be cool or something. I really have been calling for extensive playing time for Jackson for 3 years. I saw him play a bit for NFLE when he lead the league in rushing. And he always looked amazing during the preseason when he saw action. I don't think I was calling for him to be the starter, but I definitely made some comments here about how I wanted to see him get touches and with my real life Bills fans. He's always made the most of his playing time. I don't see any reason that Lynch should just be given the starting job. At worst I want to see a 50/50 split. Even better would be both in the backfield a once a bunch.

I wasn't calling you out or anything, but Fred Jackson wasn't actually on the Bills 3 years ago, IIRC.....He's a great player, he's earned his way in the NFL and looks to have earned a starting job. A lot of the local media, the same guys who love Lynch (and what's there not to like about Lynch, really), were saying things like "I'll be pissed if Lynch comes back and gets the bulk of the carries".

A 50/50 split would only make this team stronger. Lynch is more of a between the tackles type runner while Jackson is more of an explosive threat. Sort of like the Marion Barber/Felix Jones combo in Dallas. Lynch could become the "closer" for the Bills, or break the defense down early in the game. It's certainly a nice problem to have. I'd love to see a 50/50 split as they would both be fresh all season long and would make it more difficult for defenses to stop.

Good info on the safeties helping on Evans and TO so much. If teams do that, the Bills are clearly showing that they can go to Reed, their TEs, and the RBs with success. If they single one of those guys, Edwards will actually find them for big plays.

On another topic, how bad does Schoenert look? The offense has actually been pretty good with Van Pelt calling the plays. With the offense looking better under Van Pelt and Schoenert trashing Jauron like he did when he got fired, you have to wonder if Turk gets another chance somewhere. It would have been bad enough for him with the offense looking better after he got fired, but trashing your former employer like he did may have sealed it for him.
