Game Thread W3 - Buffalo V New England (1 Viewer)

I'd just like to thank the Pats fans for not polluting this thread. It's kind of them to allow us the space for our misery.

Man, the Buffalo defensive linemen are just awful. No pressure on pass plays and no contain or penetration on running plays. Ugh. Good thing they have Donte Whitner instead of Haloti Ngata. But it's not like I'll always be bitter about that.

Source: Bills dangling Trent Edwards

By Adam Schefter

ESPN

With some wondering whether Buffalo will deal running back Marshawn Lynch, the Bills have been dangling quarterback Trent Edwards, according to a league source.

The Bills spoke to at least one team this week about a trade for the quarterback they benched in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick.

It is not the first time Edwards' name has come up in trade talks. Buffalo debated dealing him during the offseason, before it opened up the quarterback competition that Edwards eventually won.

In two games, Edwards went a combined 29 of 42 for 241 yards passing with a touchdown and two interceptions. He was sacked seven times.

Bills coach Chan Gailey defended Edwards when he made the switch this week, saying the lack of production is not all his fault. He wouldn't, however, rule out the switch being permanent by saying Fitzpatrick's "going to take the reins and see where that takes us."

This marks the second time Edwards has been benched after being replaced by Fitzpatrick midway through last year. It also marks the Bills' fifth in-season change at quarterback in six years for a team that hasn't had a regular starter since Drew Bledsoe's three-year tenure ended in 2003.
What time in their right mind would trade for for a guy who is completely shell shocked AND with an expiring contract?

:scared: I always get a sad kick out of Whitner being the worst starter in our secondary. Glad we spent the ninth overall pick on him.

It just shows you how delusional the front office is. I was willing to give them a chance, but if they believe that Trent Edwards has any real value, then that pretty much tells me all I need to know.

Orakpo gets good pressure though. At least we drafted him. Oh, wait.

Man, if Fitzpatrick threw a more accurate pass on the one he threw the INT in the endzone, the Bills would be looking REALLY good right now.

I think it's really sad how the Bills have the ball, within 1 TD, with 3 minutes left on the clock, and I have no emotion whatsoever. No feeling, no expectations, no hope....but at the same time, no emotion when they give it away.

The positive side is that I'm really not surprised that they collapsed with another INT. Just feels like :wall: :bag: to me.

I never thought I'd feel this way.

Geez, the Bills KNOW the Pats are going to run on 3rd and 6 to try to ice the game and they just get pushed back and give up 6 yards for the first down. Terrible.

I'm right there with you. I still consider myself a Bills fan, but I just really don't care about this team any more.

Still a much better game than I expected. Did not expect a win in but definitely didn't expect to see the Bills put up 30 points on the Pats in Gillette.

Fitzpatrick looked OK apart from his inaccurate deep throws. Seems like mentally he's way ahead of Edwards. He has a lot more pocket awareness and he knows when to scramble. His INTs weren't the result of bad decisions, thew were both overthrows. Not sure if that can be fixed at this point but he's definitely a better fit for the offense than Edwards.

Playcalling way better than what I saw all last season. The Bills should be a frisky opponent. I no longer predict a winless season.

Yep. I'll always watch, basically out of nostalgia and respect. And when they start making real strides and getting legitimately better, I'll be right there. I'm not giving up on the team, but there's just literally NOTHING to get excited about right now. Nothing. The team hasn't made any moves towards getting better in the last 5-7 years, at least.Once they start closing out tight games and start giving me something to cheer for (and have fun watching) again, I'll feel this same way. I haven't had real, honest-to-god FUN watching a Bills game since 2008. Even when they beat a bad team, I always have the feeling in the back of my head...temper my expectations.

:goodposting: Very well-said.

These are the Pats we're talking about. You can't "know" they are going to run on 3rd and 6. Heck, they pass on 3rd and 1 on occasion in that situation. That said, once again, a couple key mistakes cost the Bills this game. At least it was entertaining to watch...

I think I got on this train right after the MIA game.

I remember the days when a Bills win meant that Mrs. Karamazov wasn't going to get enough sleep that night. And when a Bills loss cast a pall over at least the rest of my Sunday but more likely the next couple of days. To this day, I still have vivid memories of Drew Bledsoe losing to the Steelers' backups and JP Losman's game-ending fumble to the Jets. I remember waking my son up so he could watch the Bills shock the world against Dallas on MNF, only to have to apologize for not knowing any better. And I remember staying up and watching that entire abortion of a game against Cleveland and being naseaus about it for days.

Now, the Bills drop a game and it's like watching Southeast Technical State lose to somebody on ESPN8. It just doesn't even register and I've forgotten about in five minutes after the final play.

I was at that Bills/cowboys game...it was epic.

So is Fitz worth a pickup for a QB desperate team? Bills will be playing from behind a decent amount, no? Did he play well enough to keep Brohm on the bench and Edwards on the block?

I know you're a Cowboys fan, but I can do one better....I was at all 3 of the Bills/Steelers, Bills/Cowboys, and Bills/Browns games mentioned above....

As a Maple Leafs fan....I know the feeling

:bag:Fitzpatrick will rack up nice yardage and may get a decent amount of TDs, but he is prone to turnovers. Today was classic Fitzpatrick - slinging it all over the field with two awful passes that get picked to nullify a good chunk of his fantasy points.

I flew home to Buffalo from California to take my 92 year old grandmother to the Browns-Bills game, perhaps her last, only to sit through the 6-3 snooze fest. Waste of $700. Time with grandmother, priceless.

So decent if your league doesn't penalize for INTs?The real question I am asking though is whether or not Fitz is likely to hold onto the job or is Brohm going to be given a chance or Edwards re-emerge?

I'd give it a 35/65 chance that Fitzpatrick finishes the year as the starter. He's a better quarterback than Brohm, but Brohm still is an unknown that the Bills want to learn more about. Couple that with the Bills being out of playoff contention by next week, means that Brohm will be getting some playing time in November and December.
