Game Thread W6 - Carolina V Tampa Bay (1 Viewer)

I guess Steve Smith is getting double teamed again today?

How is this not opening things up for the rest of the offense?

The only argument in Steve Smith's favor that I can offer:

1. Tampa is actually strong against the #1 WR. Last week they shut down Deshean Jackson for 1 catch.

2. They are double-teaming Steve Smith like f’in robots while Stewart and Deangelo absolutely SHRED them. It’s insane.

The good thing is that the running game going off will open up the passing game. This is a really good thing actually. Last year, the balanced offense was the key to Steve Smith. We need the running game to get rolling. Otherwise, people just double-team Smith play after play after play… at the same time, you don't get many juicy matchups down the stretch. So does it matter?

Not even kidding.....Delhomme should go jump off a cliff. The guys terrible

I feel bad for panthers fans for having to look at this guy on a weekly basis...him, jamarcus, and campbell should all just go on vacation

and yes i had to start joke delhomme this week

The "problem" with Steve Smith should be readily apparent to anyone watching this game. It's Jake Delhomme. He was never great, but at one point he was a least a functional NFL quarterback who could get the ball to Smith and let Smith make plays. That person died a painful, bloody death in the playoffs last season. The carcass currently playing QB in Carolina is one of the worst QBs in the league, and only the joke that is JaMarcus Russell keeps him from being THE worst. Those NFL superstars Seneca Wallace, Marc Bulger, Shaun Hill, and David Garrard? ALL of them are 20+ points better than Delhomme in the QB ratings. Carolina would be better off running the freakin Wildcat every play and getting Delhomme off the field all together.

At least we didn't just give him a multi year, multi-million dollar extension for being the worst QB in the league not named JaMarcus. :lmao:Jason Campbell is a Joe Montana compared to Delhomme this year. I'd give the Redskins a 3rd round pick and Delhomme right now for Campbell.

If the Panthers lose this game, this would HAVE to be the final straw for Delhomme...wouldn't it? Ridiculously poor decision on that pick 6 to allow TB right back in it.

Jake with another TD pass to the other team.

I'm not saying it's ever the right thing to do to mutiny against your coach/QB, but if any Panthers do it today during or after this game, I'm gonna have a hard time getting too upset with them.

What is Sargent Slaughter from the old WWF days doing out there?
Is pro bowl KR Clifton Smith out with an injury? One return, then Stroughter (just had the TD) has run back the last 3.
Yes. At the end of the first half, a Panther (#21) lined him up and cold cocked him 3 seconds before the ball got to him, knocking Smith out and getting the Panther rightfully ejected. He's going to get a 5-6 figure fine, too, seeing and he left his feet and torpedoed him shoulder pad to chin.

Who knows? The playoff game should have been, and wasn't. Game 1 of this season should have been, and wasn't. No reason to think today will be, either. It's a shame, too. With this D and this running game plus an NFL average QB, the Panthers would be a lock for the playoffs and a team nobody wanted to play. Instead, they're in a dog fight with Tampa.

For those not watching, Carolina is lining up and running the same 3-4 running plays over and over and over for 5-7 yards a play. Everyone in the stadium knows it's coming, and they're getting 5-7/per anyway. Only Delhomme is keeping Tampa in the game.

Presumably, knocked out with possible concussion - but no tissue injury. Thanks, pard.

Why would Carolina rush for the TD there? Why not take a knee then kick a FG with like 0:01 left?
The way they were running the ball, it was more likely they'd miss the FG than it was that they'd NOT get in for a TD. Been a long, long time since I saw a team line up on their own 20, run the ball every play but one for 8 minutes, and walk right down the field like that. By the end of the drive, Tampa was thoroughly emasculated.

it was clear to me Fox finally lost ALL faith in Delhomme at the end of the game. Granted, he should have given up on him 5 games ago, but none the less, he finally did. He wasn't going to pass the ball no matter what. Smart move, and because of it, they won this game.
