Game Thread W8 - New England at Minnesota (2 Viewers)

Well, we all knew it would take some time, but it looks like Brady is finally comfortable with his new receivers.

NFL, beware.

Any NFL QB would look comfortable given the time that Brady had to sit back in the pocket and find receivers on that drive.

Absolutely brilliant opening drive.

It's funny - originally I was posting that the Patriots would pound and run the ball - maybe utilize Maroney's speed on the turf. But then listening to Felger on ESPN Radio on the way home this evening, he was talking about how Graham, Neal, and Hochstein were all out. It sorta ocurred to me then - Belichick's main focus in any game is to take away what you do best as an opposing offense. For Minnesota, what they do best is run the ball, manage the game, and play in close/tight defensive games. The best way to get Minnesota out of what they do best is to score early, score often. Put the game on Brad Johnson's shoulders, make him beat you.

That opening drive, coming out with 5 wide, running no huddle, was just absolutely brilliant.

:lmao: They rushed 3 or 4 and dropped everyone else back - not "any NFL QB" would go 6 for 6 on the road on the opening drive like that.

That is odd, as Manning often has that kind of time, yet no one ever says he looks that good for that reason.
Actually, many have. I remember in the playoff loss (to the Steelers?) when Manning was harassed all day many said that he had to rush throws thus throwing off the timing with his receivers.I don't know what the big deal is. I'm not saying Brady isn't good, I'm just saying that his success, as it is with all NFL QBs, is tied to the performance of his O-line and the opposition's pass rush, which on the first drive favored the Patriots.

It might be fun to track how many flat out incorrect statement this crew makes.

#1 Bethel Johnson might be trying to prove that the Pats made a mistake by letting him go.

Fact: Bethel Johnson requested a trade and the Pats accomodated him.

This is fun.

#2 Brad Johnson will play 4-5 more years.

That did look like interference on the pick, but if he hadn't interfered with him, the Vikings receiver would have gotten lit up by Harrison on the attempted catch.

Why are NFL coaches so... stupid? Minny put Pinner in there. Pulled Taylor. Guess who's gonna get the ball? Duh. Edwards did that same stupid crap in NY. Pull Martin, and everyone in the stadium KNEW Jordan was getting the ball. Keep Martin in, and all bets are off. Now, Minny does the same stupid crap. Keep Taylor in, and the D has to guess. Put Pinner in, and they KNOW what the call is. Stoooooopid. Why do coaches do this?

Because sometimes, it shouldn't matter whether or not the entire world knows who is getting the ball. You man up and make plays.

I like Kornheiser, but he sounds stupid saying that people around the country don't know who Tom Brady is just because he doesn't do a million commercials.

Seriously. I can't believe they just tried to make a case for that. I don't see how he could be more popular.

I love that Maroney made an effort to not go out of bounds. Looking for contact and extra yards.
I think he like FAKED to go out - or maybe I just assumed he was going to.Man Troy Brown was CORRALLED - did Brady throw to him to get the penalty? :banned:
