Game Thread W8 - NY Jets v Cleveland (1 Viewer)

A fitting score. I remember the Browns-Jets double OT playoff game in Cleveland in 1987. The score was 20-10 as well, but the Jets had the lead with like 2:10 left in the game. The NBC broadcast booth was giving Jets head coach Joe Walton kudos for knocking off the #1 seed in the playoffs.

Then it was a miracle. The Browns hit a long TD bomb to make it 20-17. The Jets actually got the ball back but tried to THROW for a first down instead of just running out the clock and they had to punt. Then, with barely any time left, Kosar throws a bomb to Slaughter, its incomplete but the Jets' defender gets flagged for pass interference. The Browns kick the game-tying FG and unbelievably send it to OT.

As much as is made about "the Drive" a week later by Elway, I'll never forget that game.

Gastineau roughing the passer penalty after a 4th down incompletion with 3 mins to go, down?

The Jets have played horribly today. I wonder how much of it can be attributed to how well Crennel knows Mangini. The Jets started out terribly against New England too. Totally unprepared today on defense, no blitzing, and an anemic offense.

That Miller return energized the team though, and the Jets got two sacks on the same drive for the first time this year. Moving on offense now, so this should be a game. Jets have the wind for the 4th, which is pretty strong today.

Hmm, I still have this game on VHS. I break it out every 5 years or so and watch it. Maybe I ought to go look.

I've seen lots of games where one team jumps out and dominates early, then in the third quarter the other club tries to rally back but its never quite enough.

Hopefully this is one of those games?

I know the byline already if the Browns win:

"The Browns played a great second half when they beat the Raiders. The Browns played a great first half when they beat the Jets. Now they need to put it all together and play a great game."

The byline if the Browns choke this away:

"How about those Cavs?"

Wow. This new OC looks as conservative as any I've seen.
It seems to me like the new OC hasn't made adjustments very well. There certainly seems to be no plan right now. To be fair, he's not even been on the job for a week. He probably gets a mulligan this game.
