Game Thread W8 - Pittsburgh v Oakland (1 Viewer)

Man...Steelers season is looking bleak. That was pathetic.

Was Ben still feeling the effects of the concussion or what?

A) The Raiders defense played very good football today; they are much better than I thought.

B) This Steeler team sucks and won't make the playoffs. Now, I'm not jumping off the bandwagon, and I'll still watch every game this season like I always do, but it's just so frustrating to see them play this poorly when they are supposed to be defending their title. What a disapointment.

Is this the worst title defense ever?
I went through and of all the superbowl defending teams a week or so ago, there were about 8 or 10 of them that were sub-500. -- most of them were within a game or two. The year of the strike (1982) after San Fran won in '81, they went 3-6 in the short season. I don't think that, since they went to a 16 game season, that there were any other teams that won less than 7 games after winning the Lombardi. Edit -- going from memory though, I could be wrong.

Haynes is done for the season, meaning Duce will have to start playing. And Hartings looks to be out for an extended period.

I think it's safe to say that this season is lost.

Sure glad I have tickets to Sunday's game. :coffee:

Always happy when Cincy loses... :towelwave:
:towelwave: :towelwave: Always happy when Seattle fans and Cincy fans take the time out of their own losses to come in here and talk trash. Only shows us the respect we deserve. Thanks!
HahaI just pointed out that you should worry about your own team. Pittsburg is the best 2-5 team in the league.I, for one, have never tried to disrespect the Steelers, but posts like the one that I replied to in the start of this thread are an open invitation to bash away. Thanks.Oh, by the way, That Atlanta team is pretty good.

 What's the news on them?
Not sure, I just caught the tail end of the local post-game show. They were talking to Hartings, who said that he was going to have an MRI on his knee. The announcers said that Cowher said that it looked like Hartings would miss "significant time". Then the commented on Haynes being out for the season, forcing Duce into the mix. They never said exactly what Haynes' injury was. I missed most of the second half of the game, so I didn't see what happened.

FYI - Pittsburgh not Pittsburg. Pittsburgh is the only Burgh with the H.

He pulled up limp and literally had to hop off the field on his right leg. I didn't see what happened to him but by the way he left the field, I figured he might be out for a while.

Once again, Id like to point out the number of Steeler posts in the Cincy threads. 0. Yes 0. But thanks for pissing in our thread everyone. Much appreciated  Just evidence for down the road.

the steelers stink, no two ways about it. we are undisciplined, arrogant, and lack an identity. we play dumb football and we don't play as a team. we have the worst special teams in the league and we get outcoached almost every game. our record puts us at the bottom of the AFC if not the whole NFL and we have earned our position in this league--looking up at the better teams.

if you loathe those who would have us put an * next to our well-deserved title last year, then you've got to come forward and admit that the steelers stink this year. i certainly do.

Overall, who can disagree? They're 2-5
we are undisciplined,
No question
arrogant,
Eh, maybe, maybe not. Not sure that's the issue
and lack an identity.
I'm not even sure what that's supposed to mean.

Agree with the dumb part. Not sure about not playing "as a team". Examples?

No disagreement there. I think Cowher lacks the fire he's had in the past and the team is lacking focus to a degree. Although to be fair, if they hadn't been so careless with the ball they'd be 5-2 and sitting on top of the AFC North. It's all about turnovers. If they would have protected the ball better these other flaws would be seen as things to be corrected in order to make another SB run.I was saying all week that the Steelers should give Ben another week to recover from the concussion he suffered last week. He looked indecisive out there today from what I saw. And he hadn't looked that way the past couple games. I have to think that the concussion had something to do with that. I think starting him today was a bad decision by Cowher. And not taking him out when it was clear that he wasn't himself again was an even bigger mistake.

No argument at all.

arrogant: celebrating after making any kind of a play even though we were 2-4 at the time and trailing in the game. see also: trash talking and taking unsportmanlike penalties for doing so.

lack an identity: 3rd and 1 and Ben lines up in the shotgun and throws incomplete. 2nd and goal from the two and we can't push a pile. our identity used to be a running team that plays rock solid defense. that's not true this year. see also: atlanta laying 41 on our defense and our primary RB is an undrafted scatback.

not playing as a team: one week our offense goes for 38 but the defense can't get a stop. the next week the defense holds the opponents to 6 points while the offense lays an egg. at least we can count on the special teams be bad all of the time.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this every pro athlete today?

OK, I can agree with that.

I'm not sure I'd term that "not playing as a team". That's just not getting a complete effort. To me, "not playing as a team" is more about players looking out for themselves rather than for the good of the team.

Uh, guys? we just got spanked by one of the worst teams offensive lines in football. not exactly the time to be pulling the respect card.
Just thought I would fix that comment. ;) I agree, the Raiders O-line has been stinking it up this year, hardly giving Walters time to hand off half the time, but their D has gotten better each week, especially during that last 3, even holding Denver to just 13.

IMO, Ben should not have even started. In all honesty, I was pretty happy when I heard that he was the starter. See, I lost a lot of respect for him this year when not only was he (Mr. NFL QB for a team that should not have won the Superbowl) riding a bike without a helmet, but with an expired learner's permit as well. Not very smart decision IMO  .

I know that QB-ing can't be his whole life, but come on, that was just plain dumb. If you can't make smart decisions in your own life, how on earth can you make smart decisions on the field?

JMO.....

how are the steelers favored by 2.5 against the broncos this week? as a homer, i can't bet against them, but it seems like a bizarre line.
