Game Thread W8 - San Diego V New Orleans (1 Viewer)

The Saints moved the ball at will on that first drive. Brees is 6/7 for 41 yards and they ran 6 times for 33 yards.

Chargers three and out on their second possession. No pass attempts. 7 to 2 run to pass ratio so far.

I don't know when the last time was that I saw a WR as wide open in the end zone as Henderson was on that TD.

If they can keep up 6+ YPC, I am all for that distribution.
Yes, but do you expect them to keep up 6+ YPC? I don't. Hence the need to establish a balanced attack.
I think they should keep running it until NO proves they can consistently stop it. After they've committed themselves to stopping the run, then the Chargers can mix it up more effectively.

Well, on their last possession, the Chargers ran it three times and didn't get a first down, leading to a punt. What do you want to see, exactly? The 6+ ypc is based on one 26 yard run, which skews the stats at this point... the other 6 attempts so far have gone for 18 yards. Are you waiting for another 26 yard run, or are you happy getting 3 ypc?

Huge play call here. 4th & goal at the 1 yard line. The Saints called timeout, so apparently they will go for it.

Brees likes like to play how many different people can I throw it too.. 9 different WR -- 1 pass for 7 yards to his playmaker.

Those are the only options? When did they pass that rule?
On the first carry of the game, the Chargers had a 26 yard run. Since that first play, the Saints have held the Chargers to 18 yards on 6 carries. How much more of that do you need to see before you agree the Chargers should start balancing their attack with some passing?

Yeah, and it's making me hate the Saints. My Colston pick was a waste of a second-rounder.

OK, so maybe waiting for the next long run isn't such a bad idea. :)

Though at least they did let Rivers throw a couple times on 1st & 2nd down.

Add a +40 to it...and a -3.

Tomlinson's first big carry was skewing the numbers, but so was Tolbert's 0-yarder. Without it, the Chargers were running the the ball consistently well. That's really all I needed to see, but the next big carry made me thankful they didn't abandon the run based solely on Tolbert's 3rd and short collapse.

I didn't say they should abandon the run. I said they should use a balanced attack. And what do you know, they just went pass-run-pass-run-run-pass-pass on their first TD drive. :ptts:

LOL @ Simms saying that the Chargers LB crew is all back and healthy. He's never heard of a guy named Merriman?

Wow, when are they going to call the Saints for holding Phillips? That was as blatant as it gets, and it's the third or fourth time I have seen it.

Offensive play selection has nothing to do with the Chargers losing this game. How do you fix the defense?

Way to show the British that American Football is all about FUN - flag a guy for celebrating... :ptts:

Remember, they are used to guys ripping off their shirts and running around like idiots...

The game is what's fun. The celebration is just ego and idiocy.

Not sure that one warranted a penalty.

I'm not sure it's fixable. So instead they have to do these things:1. Sustain their own drives, like they did last time.2. No more turnovers and short fields like they gave the Saints on Sproles' fumble.3. Cut down on the penalties, with one possible exception.4. Norv needs to go ballistic about the fact that his pass rushers are being held, maybe to the point of getting an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

It probably didn't, but then neither did the unnecessary roughness penalty where the late hit came from a guy who had already committed to the tackle prior to the ball carrier going down.
