Game Thread - Wildcard - Pittsburgh V Cincinnati (1 Viewer)

That's how you stop a screen. Rush the passer but get zero push, so your guys just by chance are defending the screen perfectly.

I'm just glad the game got over with Cincy being shut out here in the 2nd half.

Ok, what kind of a chance does Pitt have against the Colts?

I think between Dungy's kids' suicide and the fact that Indy hasn't played a meaningful game in almost a month, they will be ripe for an upset. If the Steelers can rattle Peyton and get to him early, the Steelers will steal Indy's magical season.

You can definitely see the difference between the arm of Palmer and the arm of Kitna. Kitna's passes to not have the same zip or velocity. And he can't throw the deep ball with the same accuracy. The entire complexion of this game changed when Palmer went out.

But the way the Steelers are playing, I'm not sure the Bengals could win even with Palmer. But at least he could have kept them in a shootout.
I think this thread is a lost cause. Its overrun by people with no current interest in discussing anything.
BGP. Throw out a topic. What would you like to discuss during this blowout?
Yes throw out a topic of interest for discussion. My take is I don't think the Bengals would have won today even with Palmer. But it sucks that we won't ever be able to know. The Steelers gameplan has really exploited some of the flaws in the Bengals D to perfection. But I feel bad for Bengals fans. It's just not fair to have your Superman get taken down right out of the gate. I was really looking forward to watching the Palmer vs. Big Ben matchup. As a fan of both players, I feel cheated.

That could be true but they are playing a lot better now and Rothliesberger isnt playing his first game after an injury.Anyway, the AFC is set up for 2 great games. I like the matchups in the NFC as well but it is certainly the JV to the AFC Varsity.

No Pitt fan here but arent they at least as good as SD? Are you saying the Colts are unbeatable? Didnt they lose at home to a non playoff team?

Nope. Just saying they showed nothing in the prior meeting and match up poorly with the Colts.

The Bengals began to play like they were losing - lots of frantic passing - even when they were actually winning. Can't understand why they didn't just grind it out with Rudi.

That Benglas D, needs a ton of work. You build your D down the middle (DT, MLB, SS) and the Bengals are severely lacking in that area. Aside from that nice stop on the run, Kevin Kaesviharn has been truly abyssmal. So in addition to SS, they need to get a FS. And for all the hype, I have not been impressed at all by Odell Thurman. He is a very undisciplined player.

Steelers were dropping 8 too...the Palmer injury aside, Lewis just flat got out-coached this game.

They have Mediu Williams, but he's out this year. That fills one hole when he comes back next year.

The loss of Carson Palmer = the loss to the Steelers
Palmer plays defense?
No but he would've scored more points and not given the defense a short field to defend for the whole game.
pure conjecture...
If you can't admit Palmer would've been a head and shoulders upgrade over Kitna then you are just fishing. Or you've been listening to the game on radio.
I dunno.. last game at Cincy Palmer threw THREE picks!! Maybe Kitna kept it close?

Come on Steelers, one more trick play for a TD...Statue of Liberty maybe? The old "Roethlesberger puts the ball under his shirt and walks into the end zone" play? Oh...no...no...I got it, one of those music city miracle lateral fests. Yes, that's how I want to see them score here.

:stillers:
Next week Antwaan Randle El will come in the game wearing a #36 jersey, take a direct snap, turn around and shove the ball under his shirt. He'll look like a very fast Bus.

I forgot about Williams, I really liked him when he came out of MAryland and he didn't dissapoint. He can play both safety spots, that guy is a real playmaker.

The Bengals defense hasn't done anything to slow down the Steelers offense in any of the 3 games.
The D does not have to stop the Steelers. The O just needed to score more, but they cannot do that without the guy that was #3 in the MVP voting.

shhh. Don't let BGP hear that. :P

Time for the Bettis show. The Steelers are just going to put a sandwhich on a rod and dangle it out in front of him.

Yeah, had nothing to do with Ben's 13-18-195-3-0 performance or the 100 yards rushing at over 4 per carry they already have with 9 minutes to go in the game. The Bengals defense hasn't done anything to slow down the Steelers offense in any of the 3 games.
http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/live/NFL_20051204_CIN@PITBen throws for close to 400 but lost to Palmer. Palmer would of made Pitt. defense play more honestly

Good for the :towelwave: though, S, I was rooting for the Bengals in this game but I am not disappointed to see the Steelers win. GB Cowher, GB Bettis, GB Hines and GB that wacky Samoan hippie Palamalu.

Did the announcers just say Palmer's injury was BOTH ligaments, or was I just dreaming?
I heard it.ACL and MCL.

I wouldn't give it 100% credence yet - this is CBS.....

We'll have plenty of off-season to see when he returns.

Excuses, excuses - we would have won with Charlie Batch today. :towelwave: Your backup had Cincy up 10-0, why couldn't he hold the lead? Cincy just had no heart today. Better luck next year, enjoy your division title :)

I admit that Palmer's injury takes a little of the enjoyment out of this win for me, but the Bengals' defense didn't do a thing to stop the Steelers' offense in any of the three matchups. That injury completely changed the game, but that's football I guess. They put up a great fight for the 1st half, and Kitna's play actually had me a little worried. No one, including Steelers fans, liked to see Palmer get carted off with torn knee ligaments.Congrats on a great season and it's going to be one helluva next 10 years with a great rivalry developing between the Palmer-led Bengals and the Roethlisberger-led Steelers. The Bengals have a lot of talent and they're only going to get better with more experience. Hopefully Palmer is back and ready to go by the start of the 2006 season.Anyways, congrats again... you've finally got something to be excited about in Cincy.

Seriously...if they can't stop the clock, why not just let that guy score? You get the ball back...a TD and a couple of onside kicks and you're back in business!

LOL at the Bungles excuses.. they were winning 17-7 with Kitna.. where's the D???LOL.. Steelers punishing the Bungles now.. still not the top dog of the division.. sorry!!! :boxing:

NFL.com says just ACL...

CINCINNATI (Jan. 8, 2006) -- Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee Sunday when he was tackled low on his first pass during Cincinnati's playoff game against Pittsburgh.
