Garrett Graham (1 Viewer)

With Owen Daniels going down with a fibula injury, what can we expect from Garrett? Well, he's already caught 3 TDs this season, and has 15 receptions in 5 games.

Graham will start at tight end Sunday when the Texans face the Rams, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Owen Daniels, the Texans' usual starter, has been placed on the injured reserve-return list with a fractured fibula. Because the Texans utilize the tight end position often, Graham's value rises this week and for as long as Daniels is out. The earliest Daniels can return is Dec. 5 (Week 14) against Jacksonville.
If Graham also gets the targets Daniels was receiving he could be a really nice TE option down the stretch. Daniels was TE9 so far this season with 3 TDs and 24 receptions of his own.

I'll be starting him next week to cover Jimmy Graham's bye, and after a few weeks of consistent production Garrett's value could be mid-level TE1.

I think he may be better then some expect... If you add o.daniels 65 and grahams 45 you have the te2 in the league behind Graham. Im not saying that's attainable but now maybe all the TE work will come his way and we can have a happy medium of a top 10 guy like Odaniels and bring it to top 5 rest of the way for Graham? to much to ask.. Graham has already scored 3 tds like you said and seemed to steal some targets from Daniels... I had daniels on one team and immediately dropped him for Graham, as I have Gronk to...

Thanks for starting a new thread on this.

I just traded for Graham2.

He might still be had for cheap.

Question marks are Schaub and whether Yates comes in, but he's looked awesome in games, I think.

Went to High School with Garrett, I'm actually pretty excited to see him finally get a real chance to succeed in the NFL. I own him in a couple dynasty leagues where I grabbed him early on in his career just for "home town value". Looks like that may end up paying off for me now.

Just saw your post in the TE thread. GG has a legitimate shot at mid-level TE1 numbers in that offense.

Garrett Graham isn't as flashy as many of the other tight end prospects for 2010, but he is one of the most complete players. Graham doesn't have the same type of straight line speed as Aaron Hernandez or Jermaine Gresham, but he always seems to find a way to get open. He saw his first major action as a sophomore, catching 30 passes for 328 yards and 4 touchdowns in 2007. He took over as the main target last year for the injured Travis Beckum and caught 40 passes for 540 yards and 5 touchdowns. He again surpassed those numbers as a senior. Graham has caught 51 passes for 624 yards and 7 touchdowns. These aren't eye popping statistics, but he plays for one of the most run heavy offenses of the last decade.

Graham makes an excellent safety valve for his quarterback. He finds holes in zone coverage and sits down to provide an easy target. Because of Wisconsin's preference to run the ball, he has become an excellent run blocker. He has the size and upper body strength to take on defensive ends in the run game as well as linebackers. He may become an H-back in the NFL. Graham will likely be picked up in the late fourth or early fifth round of the 2010 draft.
OverviewGraham is a bit of a ‘tweener in that he lacks prototypical size and strength to be a top in line tight end in the NFL. He may be best suited as an H-Back or a fullback and will need to go to a team that fits his strengths. He is a good route runner and is excellent at reading coverages and finding the soft spots in zone defenses. He is a natural receiver that can reach out and pluck the ball and has a wide receiving radius. He is a willing blocker but lacks the size to blow opponents off the line.

Analysis

Strengths - Graham has soft hands. Very productive for three seasons in the Big 10. Heady player with great motor. Runs precise routes and understands how to get open in zone coverage. Can play multiple positions at the next level.

Weaknesses - Does not possess adequate size and strength. Releases too slow and does not have the acceleration to get separation in man coverage. Lacks the moves to be elusive after the catch and the ability to stretch the field.

wow that is pretty cool. good luck!

good pickup this week no question

Very excited to see him get a chance to start. IMO he's more talented than Daniels who looks like he's lost a bit of speed with his age catching up to him a bit. As a Graham owner I hope Schaub continues to start since he really seems to like throwing to TE's and when he starts to okay it safe by dinking and dunking passes then the TE is usually his first or second read from what I've seen.

This could be Graham's coming out party if he gets targeted like Daniels has been.

I have never seen this guy play before, but the Houston TE spot is a focal point of the offense. Any Texan homers: Any upside here to go along with his obvious opportunity? Interested to hear from people who have seen him play enough where they can envision him as the main receiving TE in the HOU offense.

Graham has stood out every time I've watched the Texans. He doesn't have elite upside but I like his odds of cracking the top 12 the rest of the year.

Yup, Yates is much better than Schaub. lol Man bring Schaub back in.

Per Mike Clay, Garrett Graham was 2nd on the team in routes run, one behind Hopkins and tied with Andre. The targets weren't there this week, but if that holds up, they'll come in bunches.

Surprised Schaub didn't look his way, he usually likes his TE's and Graham is good enough to get open.

Graham isn't in the same class as Daniels - yes he has the opportunity, but his FF value will not equal the value of Daniels in the same role
I wouldn't go there, he may be faster and more athletic.

Agreed. Daniels is a more polished route runner though for sure.

graham just didn't get any targets which is weird seeing that 6 of matt's 8 tds are to TEs.... I thought graham would have a good day although they say rams are great at stopping TE.... maybe next week we can get the Graham train rolling.

My half full view is that last week was just a Texans disaster and they will get back on track this week.

But he gets KC, then bye, sooo...

I disagree.

we'll see --- maybe yates would help a little if he starts

I think he threw the ball about 10x in his first 2 possessions , with graham getting 3 looks.

2 of those were picked off at the st louis 2, which is kind of a glass half empty/full kind of thing.

Graham had nearly matched Daniels' production at the time of Owen's injury. Houston leads the league in targets to the TE.

Ok correct me if I am wrong. Didnt see the game. On the highlights, it looked like he was redzone targeted 2-3 times 2 being picks that Yates threw. Anyone see those? Was that not Graham?

yep graham 88... Both were terrible thrown balls, one almost by his feet... makes no sense when you have a 6-6 te, to throw at his feet.... Schaub, yates are terrible.

ok 6-3 even then why throw at his feet? hey and Jamaal charles stinks right Graham.....
I just think it's important to be accurate before you post.

Jamaal looks pretty fantastic. I don't recall posting anything negative about him this off-season. Have you been waiting three years to gloat?
