Garry Marshall passed away at 81 (1 Viewer)

I loved his few acting appearances. Especially in Albert Brooks' Lost In America- Marshall played the casino manager whom Brooks tried to get his money back from. Classic scene.

Creator on Happy Days, Directed Pretty Woman
Don't sell him short.

WRITER - Jack Parr Show, Make Room For Daddy, Gomer Pyle, The Joey Bishop Show, I Spy, The Lucy Show

CREATOR - Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, The Odd Couple (TV series), Mork & Mindy

DIRECTOR - The Flamingo Kid, Nothing In Common, Overboard, Beaches, Pretty Woman, Frankie & Johnny (also produced it), Runaway Bride, The Princess Diaries, Mother's Day

And even that is probably just 20% of his career.

He was also the most Jewish  non Jewish guy who ever lived. I mean the guy looked Jewish, sounded more Jewish than Bernie Sanders, used Jewish words and phrases all the time. But he wasn't Jewish.

DIRECTOR - Nothing In Common
I heard him tell the story of how he landed Jackie Gleason for the role of Tom Hanks' father. Gleason was embittered, in poor health, and isolated from Hollywood. Marshall says he called up him up and simply said: "Jackie, do you really want your last movie appearance to be Smokey & Bandit part III?"

Don't sell him short.

He made a lot of movies/TV in Hollywood and had to adapt to his surroundings...

spot on -

shocked to learn he was not of the 'tribe'

prolific career, thank you so very much for my personal favorite 'The Odd Couple'

Garry Kent Maschiarelli - quite a career. He went to Northwestern school of journalism... and ended up writing jokes for Joey Bishop. I bet he had a good story about taking chances in careers. - RIP, say hi to Robin for us, Garry.
