Just bought it, level 15.Around what level or what point did you guys get the Breezewood home? I'd like to have a base and actually saw where it was last night but didn't investigate further.

you can hire a cab to take you for like 50.Thanks guys. I'll take care of that when I track back to Whiterun. Last night I started towards Riften to find the Thieves Guild. Boy that's a LONG trek.
Replying to myself just to say, I was wrong! Should have taken Jason's advice. I made 155 freaking potions and, though I had already taken five levels of training in Block, I didn't level up! And I don't know if it is something about being level 50 and above or what, but NONE of the other trainers would train me. Not any of the six at the Mage College. Not the two handed dude with the companions. No one. So I'm not sure if there is some sort of min level you must be at before a trainer will bother (all of these areas were likely under 20, with the exception of one, which is under 30) or if it is because of the soft cap at level 50. But whatever the reason, it seems training is no longer an option for me. So I had to find yet another option. On the bright side, I discovered just how easy it was to gain levels with those low level areas I had. I got my best (ok, only) two handed weapon from Lydia and picked a cave I knew I hadn't gone in to yet. Walk in and am immediately jumped by two Draughr Deathlords. I missed a lot. I hit quite a bit. Had to use some healing potions. But I made it through the battle, slayed them both using the two handed axe, and went from level 18 in two handed to level 26 in one battle, and that gave me the level up. So now I am maxed on enchanting and can make my new gear! And then, back to the main quest!I did this early on in the game when alchemy was still interesting to me. Had a bit of fun doing it too. Was always cool to discover things by looking at ingredient qualities you knew and thinking "mixing those together should work as they are similar." And to find it actually DID work. But at this point, I am doing it solely because I need to gain a level, and this is something that's relatively painless.Jason, I agree with what you are saying. My thought process here is, I have the stuff to make 155 potions. I only really need one more level up. So, I'm pretty sure this is more than enough to get me there. As such, I am hoping some of the more valuable potions will actually be useful and that I will actually make something worthwhile, like maybe an actual Fortify Alchemy potion that I can use later to make my own enchantment potions. So I don't think I am really to worried about maximizing the leveling aspect for this go around.'Matthias said:You could although it would take most of the fun out of alchemy (in my opinion, at least). I'd just sit down and mix potions using ingredients that you don't know what they do. Discovering that stuff is the best part of the skill.
I thought the games radiant system allowed for a quest giver to be killed such that later in the game someone else would take the slain person's place to grant the same quest? And we should be allowed to kill these "quest givers" without penalty in the game.In addition to being able to make things, there are a bunch of quests where you have to get 10 or 20 of this or that alchemy component, or 2 or 3 gems of one type or another.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but you say you used 5 training sessions and did not level up.You only get 5 training sessions per level. If you already used all five, and are still the same level, that's why they wouldn't train you....I had already taken five levels of training in Block, I didn't level up! ... Ok, guess that was the issue then. Never noticed this before. But then I don't train THAT much. And level ups were coming pretty quickly earlier in the game.Next question, can someone talk to me about muffle? I am planning out my new armor, trying to select enchantments I will use. When it comes to boots, I am looking at Muffle. I do not have the spell, have never cast it. My sneaking skill is at 100%. Is Muffle as an enchantment going to do me any good at this level? Are muffle and sneak two separate concepts? I always assumed that sneaking meant moving silently. So I'm not sure muffle will really accomplish anything for me?It's 5 total per level. If you use 2 for archery and go to a Heavy armor trainer you will only have 3 available.
There are two aspects to sneak... being seen and being heard. The chance of being heard is affected by the total weight of all armor that you wear. The Muffle effect will reduce your armor weight used in that calculation. The Muffle Spell will reduce it by 100%, basically making it the same as if you aren't wearing armor. The Muffle-like perks and the Muffle effect are believed to be half as effective as the spell. The game doesn't show a stat for it in game... I don't know that Enchant skill changes how effective it is if you self-enchant. So just the perk would have you be as noiseless as if you wore armor that weighed half as much. Taking the perk and wearing boots with Muffle would stack and reduce your weight 100%, same as the spell does by itself.Whether it's worth it will depend in part on your character and equipment. If you're wearing Daedric heavry armor it is a lot more helpful than if you're wearing Dragonscale light armor.I saw a chart someone made where he reloaded a save and snuck as close as he could until he was heard without anything... using the perk by itself... using the enchanted boots by themselves... and then using both. I don't remember what kind of armor he wore, but it made a big difference having one Muffle effect versus none. Having both effects (for 100% coverage) didn't matter as much, but it still let him get closer. With high enough sneak, you might not need them at all, not sure I haven't played an uber sneak character yet.Ok, guess that was the issue then. Dragon Scale and 100% sneak. Sounds like there is probably going to be a better option for me. I was hoping that maybe it somehow also muffled weapon sounds, such that maybe you wouldn't be autospotted when two mages were side by side and you sniped one with the bow. Doesn't seem to be the case though. I do have a set of boots with Muffle on them. Maybe I should put them on and hit up a random dungeon and see if I notice any difference.Whether it's worth it will depend in part on your character and equipment. Your wife is way cooler than mine. I noticed mine yesterday, after complaining about the noise of a fight I had with a couple of Draughr, had earplugs in.My wife has been channeling her Skyrim hatred into shtick at work. She's a high school English teacher. Her sophomore students all play Skyrim and talk about it endlessly. Some examples of her work -
She actually watches me play sometimes, more out of boredom than real interest. But she knows stuff. Like one day I was walking around and she said, "you're in the thieves guild right now. I know that. I can't believe I know that."I was so turned on I considered giving her fifteen seconds of pure loving. But of course I just kept playing.Your wife is way cooler than mine. You need a Black Soul Gem. Grand won't do it.2. Whenever I kill a human it says I dont have a soul gem big enough...I vaguely remember someone here saying I needed a specific gem but I bought every kind there was and it still said that. What gem is needed for human souls?
I'm in the middle of this now. It wasn't bad, but the Forsworn gave me way more trouble than I thought they would. I figured I would just waltz in sniping mofos left and right when I was suddenly swarmed by 5 of them that refused to die. Then their mage froze me to death. So I reloaded, shot one in the back, shouted "Odahviing!" and sat back on a rock with some popcorn.OK...I have been buying up all kinds of empty souls, shooting everything I can with the soul trapped bow and disenchanting everything I can....and I have a couple of questions. I'm sure they've been addressed but I can't locate them.
1. I'm noticing that when I go to enchant some armor that the armor rating is plummeting, is there something I'm missing?
2. Whenever I kill a human it says I dont have a soul gem big enough...I vaguely remember someone here saying I needed a specific gem but I bought every kind there was and it still said that. What gem is needed for human souls?
On a side note...I did the Mehrunes' Razor quest yesterday while the kids were napping...lots of fun that one was and a pain in the ### to find!
And can you purchase these as well? You need a Black Soul Gem. Grand won't do it.2. So I finally was able to get past that troll on the way up to see the greybeards. Did all the stuff up there and they then sent me way north to someplace to get something. I get there, go through the dungeon or whatever and come upon:
three rocks that light up when you get near them. Each one controls a gate down a hallway. 3 gates. How do you get past this?
The level is supposedly set when you visit it the first time. By visit, I mean enter. I don't believe just getting close enough to mark your map sets it. But I guess I could have read that wrong.Edit: I see you mentioned camps. Since those are outside and don't need to be entered per se, the level may well have been set when you discovered it.Does anyone know when exactly leveled dungeons have their levels triggered? Recently when I've been traveling I've been going toward caves/bandit camps/other landmarks so they'll show up on my map for future fasttravelling. Last night I had to visit one of those dungeons for a quest and it seemed very easy. I'm hoping that was just a random easy dungeon and not that I'd triggered the level of that dungeon when I marked it on my map 6 levels ago.

I haven't done that particular quest. But I read on the wiki a long time ago under tips that the level of an area was set based on your level the first time you entered it. But as we know, wiki is by no means perfect, and probably less so when the game was still new. So perhaps it is set when you get close enough to mark it on the map. But I certainly hope not. That would be disappointing. I know I marked a lot of areas just so I could fast travel back to them later. This one was a dwymer ruin, but it was a small one.The level is supposedly set when you visit it the first time. I didn't even realize I'd killed the target until I was looting bodies and saw that one was him. I guess I was just expecting a boss type battle and instead got an easier one.

I don't know that this is true. And I only say that because I can guarentee that I NEVER ate a human heart or human flesh, but I did use those ingredients in a few potions. So for alchemy, in order to create any potion that uses a certain ingredient I have to know at least one effect from that ingredient? I was going to take a suggestion upthread to make an invisibility potion in order to help me out in a certain area but when I went to do it I couldn't use any of the ingredients in the potion...Instead I went through my inventory eating all the stuff I didn't know any effects of. Mmmm, Troll Fat.
When you eat it does it give you all the effects? So for alchemy, in order to create any potion that uses a certain ingredient I have to know at least one effect from that ingredient? I went to steed stone after maximizing all the Thieves type skills and levels I needed. I did it mainly because I wanted more carry weight. I already had the perk that negated armor weight. But I got tired of carrying extra boots with extra hauling on them and having to switch out when I got weighted down. It would cost me my matching set bonus. Finally got the steed stone (yes!) so now i'm just meandering around dungeon hopping and dragon slaying. At level 30 and kind of taking a break from the main quest at the point where they asked me to find the elder scroll. Figure that if the quest has reached the point where i'm looking for something the game is named after, I must be relatively close to the end. Or the beginning of the end. Anyway, not quite ready to finish this character yet so off i go to terrorize the wilderness and natives.

No, just the first one, but I guess it's 100% effective. The only ingredients I could use in any potions were stuff that I'd been able to identify. I guess I just assumed that the only way to learn the first effect was to eat it.When you eat it does it give you all the effects? So for alchemy, in order to create any potion that uses a certain ingredient I have to know at least one effect from that ingredient? So, if I want to make an invisibility potion, and I have discovered that "ingredient x" has an invisibility effect, and know from the innernets that ingredient y + ingredient x create a potion that has an invisibility effect, am I able to create that potion, or do I also need to know (from the game) that ingredient Y has that same effect? It gives you ONE. Exactly. When I was making my 155(!) potions yesterday based on the Alchemy Planner, I was discovering effects left and right AS I was making the potions. So that means that many times, when I made the potion, I had nothing to indicate what the effects of that particular ingredient were. So experimentation is something they expect you to do in the game.'Matthias said:Nope. One soul per gem. If they aren't filling them completely then you only have gems to big for them. For example if you are getting petty souls but have no petty gems they will fill the smallest gem you do have, no matter how large a soul that gem would normally carry.okay so I found this daedric axe with like a 10 sec soul trap so been racking up souls in dungeons, only thing is some of these souls must be too small because they are only partially filling my soul gems. anyone know how to completely fill them? would the souls stack on each other to fill it up?
Yep, i did the alchemy planner thing once and learned nearly every ingredients effects. Might need to do it one more time to finish off some of the more obscure ingredients thoughExactly. Do you know if you kill an enemy with a really large soul, will it waste it on your smallest gem (that is too small for it) or would it go to the larger one that would fit it.
