General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (2 Viewers)

The leveling on this is interesting, to say the least. I'm a level 42 and accidentally got two of the Dawnstar NPCs mad at me (pickpocketing mishap). I was all set to just let them kill me and turn the game off for the night since it was late anyway, and even though they weren't killable, I had to turn the game off manually because they just couldn't get my health down very much.

Despite playing a level 47 Listener/Nightingale, I've never bothered pickpocketing.

Am I really missing out? I always thought of it as a low-level way to get a little extra $$, and that's it.

Mercurio and I finally ran into a double dragon encounter, got all juiced up for a tough battle and started slinging stamina arrow at them, but for some reason they were attacking something else. so I hop over the ridge to see whats going on and I notice 4 deer, a few wolves, 3 bears, a giant, a troll and even a fox had come from the wood works to aide my battle, so of course I'm stoked to get in on the dragon beat down with my new friends. We spend the next 10 mins or so just pounding on these two dragons, giving high fives, but when the last dragon fell I get bum rushed by my new found buddies....no loyalty for the experience we just went through together, I tell ya!! This was actually more intimidating than the two dragons because I thought we were boys. :lmao:
Happened to me too... Spriggon Matron and her 3 bear friends. I saved their ###, but they didn't care.

I've gone through this whole game without pickpocketing. I think it might serve a purpose early on when cash is in short supply. But other than that, seems like it would just be a diversion.

If you enchant improved armor, it will appear to lose any improved rating you may have applied through smithing (the UI will show it revert to it's base specs). However, after enchanting the item - the item will in fact retain any improved rating (UI bug?).

Good find, thanks!
And it does work as stated above. I just enchanted my steal plated armor with +13% Archery, +13% One-handed, +13% Sneak and +8 points of Heavy armor!

I just realized I have a #### load of all kind of soul gems too....do any of you enchant the stuff you find on missions, with a lower gem, before selling it?

I did not. I would however use all the small gems to enchant the daggers I created. It is the easiest way to build black smithing and enchantment while getting wealthy. Basically:- Go to blacksmith and buy iron ingots and leather strips in equal amounts- Make iron daggers (black smithing plus ups)- Enchant those daggers with banish using petty and lesser gems that I amassed using my bow with Soul Trap (enchanting plus ups)- Sell daggers for between 500-700 apiece (profit)If you don't have soul trap, you can just buy all lesser and petty gems you can find that are already full. You WILL still profit by enchanting the daggers even with the expense of buying the gems.

I am level 27 and havent seen or heard about banish yet. With that said, would it be wise to enchant what I find with something else just to turn bigger profit?I do have a glass epic soul trapped bow that works wonders. I just slaughtered a bunch of Mamoths to fill some of the bigger gems I had.

at level 20 I still haven't come across a banish enchantment. I've been using "Damage Stamina" which lets me sell them for around 200. That cuts the profit margin quite a bit, but I've been filling my soul gems myself instead of buying already filled ones.

Im level 26 with level 65 Destruction and Im just destroying enemies with dual fireball. I now run into Giant camps with glee. I also turned into a werewolf and enjoyed feeding on flesh a bit too much.

Sometimes its nice to use as a shortcut. I like to pickpocket people's house keys. I'm terrible at picking locks, and slightly less so at picking their pockets. It comes in handy to have a key for some of the dark brotherhood missions.

I haven't gone WW yet in this game but I loved it in previous versions.

Shop around. Weapons with Banish seem to be a bit more rare. And they tend to be valuable when you do find them. As a result, there's a tendency to not want to destroy them by disenchanting them. But doing so will repay itself ten fold or more just due to the value they provide enchanting the daggers. So just hit up a bunch of weapon's shops and see if you can find any weapon with this enchantment. Remember, it doesn't have to be a strong enchantment, any banish enchantment will do.I gues my answer to your other question is, it depends. If the value gets to big and you don't have a good fence with a good amount of cash (from doing the minor jobs at the guild), it may be tough to sell the things. If you can find a trainer that is also a merchant, this makes it much easier. For instance, as a light armor user, I would save my bigger items for the merchat in the bizarre in Riften. I would buy five levels of Light Armor from her at over 1500 a pop. I would then turn right around (without exiting the conversation screen!!!!!) and sell her a ton of expensive stuff back. It basically resulted in free training plus some profit. These trainers/merchants can be great for unloading valuable pieces.

If you aren't afraid to blow a few perks on speech, you can dramatically increase the gold each merchant has, and everyone can become a fence and buy any good. I've taken these perks for both my characters as it really takes out a lot of the hassle in buying/selling.

I used it from the very start. When you're initially getting going it's a huge help. Admittedly now I rarely come across anything I can pickpocket that I don't already have in droves otherwise, but I still do it just to push my Pickpocket skill ranking up to 100. I'm at 93 right now, I think.

In previous iterations of these games, I would always up my speech because I am the type that always likes to resolve things peacefully if I can. But now that it requires perks to really get anywhere, I really didn't go this route in Skyrim. Just to many other perks I wanted in other skill trees. So the few times I have tried peaceful resolutions, it has failed and I've ended up killing people, like with the quest to free the brother from Whiterun.

Yeah, the speech perks are mostly geared toward commerce, not persuasion.

I think it banishes Daedra back to their realms or some crap. To be honest, I have never USED a weapon with that enchantment on it. Which is why I was fine with disenchanting that weapon when I found it.

Sends summoned Daedra back to Oblivion up to a certain level.

Make sure you reads Hawk's post above. Sounds like he got it right and I had it wrong. Or Matthias. One of them knows what they are talking about! I was just going from memory.

That's the weapon I saw..I just didnt know what it was or even how I would use it so I just passed on it. At least I know what to look for now though. Even if I saw it at this point there's nothing I can do since I only have $50 gold left. I've been buying every ingrediant I can get my hands on...I want to raise my Alchemy level and I'm tired of buying poitions so I'll hopefully kill two birds with one stone.

I'm having a problem getting a starter quest in Windhelm so I can get my house there:

I think you're supposed to do the serial killer quest first, and I've talked to the folks around town and heard them talking about it, and even went to the graveyard at night, but I can't find the group standing around the body, etc. What am I doing wrong?
By the way, once you get your smithing up and learn the banish enchantment, the money is ridiculous. I got up over $100k for the achievement, and am working on owning all of the houses with all upgrades. I plan on outfitting all of the weapon racks, etc in all of the houses with my trophies, though I imagine I'll keep some stuff (like ingredients) in one house only that I decide to use as my base operation. That house had been the Rifton one, but I may change it to the Windhelm one since from what I hear it looks pretty cool and has a lot of storage. Any comments on the houses? I know Solitude is huge but kind of sucks, storage-wise. And Markarth would be cool but it's so dang far away... :nerd:

thinking about starting a new character under nethack rules (you die you start over, and no loading previous saves to fix the bad/crazy thing that happened)
Interesting. I'm going to do this with my fourth character. I'm thinking a sneaky thief / illusion & conjuration mage combo is the way to go. There's no way you could last as a straight mage. Maybe as a tank, but I could see bumbling into a group of 5 bandits and getting swarmed to death.

If you carry a #### load of health potions you could pull this off I think

Third Fourth character is a tank Orc....

Man, you can get through a lot more when you're not sneaking everywhere. Just rumblin' through everything waiting to hear, "You shouldn't have come here..." then start swinging.

I think that encounter is supposed to trigger the third time you enter the city. I know there's ways to hop into that quest further into it than the murder scene, but I'm not quite sure what they are. Try talking to the woman who lives next door, Mother Shatter-shield or Jorleif the Jarl's assistant. If that doesn't work, go to the Windhelm house and break in. I hadn't done the early parts of the quest either, but when I walked up to the door of Hejerim I got an update to "investigate Hejerim".

that murder quest was buggy for me (360). I couldn't get it to recognize that I was completing one of the basic steps. It just worked eventually.

LOVE killing them in the middle of one for their lines. One that made me really lol was with my cat guy.

Bandit guy: "You remind me of my cousin's cat. I killed tha..." :search bandit:

I'm on the 360 as well. How did it "eventually" work? Just one time you entered the city and it kicked in?
The group was there for me all along, but me walking up didn't trigger the next sequence. Go do some other quests & come back to it. I put it on the shelf for a while and when I came back to it again it "just worked" without me doing anything different than I had been. I don't really have any good advice , just commenting to let you know it may be flaky.

So at some point when you get all this uber stuff can you wipe entire towns off the map, or do the guards keep spawning till you are dead?

Thanks:
Did you have to visit the cemetery at a specific time of night? Also, is it the one next to the market area/blacksmith, or is there a different area you need to go to? I've been going to the location by the market area - maybe that's my problem

Who has done the Dawnstar Museum quest? Is it any good? I've been avoiding certain areas, leaving them for playthru two. But now that I want to get a few more level ups, I'm tired of just dugeon diving and want some fun stuff to do. Leveling up is starting to seem to much like a chore right now.

I liked it, I was having trouble finding Daedra hearts that questline had a few.

daedra hearts to be gathered from this quest. Essential if you plan on making Daedric Armor/Weapons.
