1. Who you can marry is based off of a few things. One of them is that you have to have completed a quest for them typically. They also have to be single.

And, of course, there's the whole deal about talking to the priest and wearing the amulet.

2. I killed an assassin early in the game and never had another one come after me.

I don't think you can get into the lair without knowing the password. Also, to actually destroy the Dark Brotherhood, you need to start the Dark Brotherhood questline.

Frost is a good horse to own and cost no money after you do the quest to steal him. When you take him to the guy who hired you to steal him just tell the guy. Sorry buddy, I'm keeping Frost.

I was playing a new character when i decided to give my original character a try.Now to set the scene and give some details, i had been playing Assassin's Creed Revelations prior to Skyrim and had absolutely no issues whatsoever and also had no issues on my recent Skyrim character which i was playing immidiately before trying my old character.My PS3 is a 2 month old 320 GB slim, it sits on a cooling stand on it's own little table with lots of free space all around it and is dusted daily including the vents. I keep all my systems, including my PS3, in impeccable condition and take great care with my discs. In total i own around 85-90 PS3 games and for the record have experienced nothing with any of them that compares even remotely with the issues i've had with Skyrim, with the exception of Fallout 3/NV and Oblivion.After i loaded up my old character save file everything seemed to be ok at first. There was a little slow down here and there but nothing major.I had joined the Stormcloaks before abandoning this character and now decided to start the battle for Whiterun. As soon as i met up with the rest of the Stormcloaks there were issues straight away. The slowdown was a bit more pronunced, but not yet game breaking, the sound effects were'nt playing properly and one of the Stormcloak character models was glitching out, twitching and vibrating in place then suddenly shot straight up into the sky, fell back down and stopped just before hitting the ground, then launched itself clear across the valley in the direction of Whiterun, almost like one of the projectiles being thrown by the Catapults.After getting over the wtf? moment of the flying Stormcloak, i proceeded with the quest. After fighting my way to the gates of the town, i took a few seconds to arrange my favourites and switch from dual wielding a Blades Sword, which was improved to Legendary and Enchanted with Shock damage and Chillrend, also legendary, to some Destruction Spells, Thunderbolt in each hand.I also switched my Thieves Guild Armour to my Shrouded Armour, both upgraded to Legendary.I then attempted to enter Whiterun. The loading screen appeared and everything seemed ok but i soon realised that it was taking a long time to load. I decided to leave it for a few minutes to see if it would load however after 5 minutes i had to admit defeat and decided to restart the game. As i was getting no response from the Control Pad i held down the Power Button on the front of the PS3.The System went through it's forced power-down routine and after around 30 seconds i restarted it.The Console powered up fine and i restarted Skyrim and Reloaded the Save File i had been playing (my Original character).After again meeting the rest of the Stormcloaks, miuns the flying one this time, i began to fight my way to the gates once again.I had killed 3 Imperial Soldiers when all of a sudden the on screen action froze. The sound effects were still active though, almost as if the battle was still being played out, including the grunts of my character as he was hit and the sound of Lightning Bolts being fired.Then the PS3 started to make a strange vibrating sound. As soon as this happened, the image on the screen started to distort, the colours becoming strange, the sounds effects and music stuttering and crackling.I had been lying on the sofa but when the action froze i sat up. When the image distorted and the strange sounds started i jumped to my feet.I tried desperately for 2-3 seconds (a lifetime in such a situation) to try and quit the game via the controller but it would'nt respond so i then held down the Power Button on the front of the PS3 again to force quit.This time it did'nt work. In a panic i made to switch off the power to the PS3 at the socket but before i got to it there was an extremely high pitched wail, a foul smell of something burning then quite a loud bang.I had got to the wall socket by this time and flipped the switch. I just stood there with my head in my hands and was like "No, no, no, no..."My girlfriend had heard the noise and commotion and came in from the kitchen to see what was going on and when she asked i replied "I think my PS3 just exploded."She looked at me for a minute thinking i was joking but quickly realised i was'nt. She noticed the smell and asked what happened. I told her.I decided to leave everything for a few seconds as, to be honest, i really did'nt know what to do.After around 4-5 minutes i apprehensively flipped the switch at the socket. Half expecting it to explode completely i was relieved when it did'nt.I walked around to the front of the console and straight away noticed that the red Standby Light was blinking. I pressed the power button and my monitor flickered then some strange colours appeared for a fraction of a second then there was a very brief but quite loud pop, the monitor went dark and the PS3's red light resumed blinking.The strange burning smell got a little stronger.Now, i love Skyrim. I truely believe it is the best game i have played in a long time and one of the best games ever created.I also believe the multitude of performance issues in the PS3 version stressed my Console until it failed spectacularly.I have owned a PS3 since its launch day. I gave my original one away to a kid down the street (his mum and dad could'nt afford to buy him one and i was replacing mine with a newer model anyway...), my second one was stolen (i was at my gf's mums for a few days and had taken it along, while we were out a bunch of Heroin addicts broke in to the house and ransacked it) and after saving up for quite a while and buying this one, it is now broken and this time there is no way i will have the money to replace it for at least 3-4 months.I am devastated.I also have no doubts at all Skyrim was responsobile for my Consoles demise. It was'nt coincedence, it was'nt related to bad maintenence of the Console, It was the only game on the HDD at the time and every other game i own, minus the noted exceptions, had no problems like those Skyrim exhibited.The console was running perfectly right up untill Skyrim caused it to freeze.I have no idea what to do. Has anyone else experienced anything like this while playing Skyrim?I apologise about the size of the post, i just wanted to put across a clear picture of what happened.

that is crazy. I've got a PS3 and had to reset during loads sometimes too. Also during the game I noticed a couple of warning beep sounds once in a while. It does not sound like a noise that would be in the game and prob is the PS3. The new 1.4 patch is being released which they say fixes the PS3 stuttering issue, hopefully that prevents what happened to this guy.

Has anyone played this with no archery and no ranged magic? Can't imagine having to kill everything face-to-face.

I did for probably the first 30 hours or so, completed a couple of early "main" quests and all of the compainon quests with either two handed weapons or one handers and a shield. I have to agree, the close up "kill" scenes are a nice touch to playing up close. Now progressing to more of an archery guy as I move through the thieves guild quests..... once I get into the Winterhold quests I'll likely only use magic, or magic and "light" one handed weapons like daggers if someone gets too close, or I'm low on magic.Not playing any "pure" style by any means, but try to stick to what the guild I'm in would "approve of"

I found a stray dog once wandering around in the mountains. I was able to have him follow me and he followed me into breezehome, but when I left to go do something he disappeared, wasn't in the house and not in Whiterun. Was kind of pissed that I lost him to be honest.

Yeah, until you run into someone wanting to kill you, but you kill him and take his sword, only to find that sword has crazy value, and you go to sell it but the shopkeeper doesn't have enough gold to give you, so you mill about chopping wood to pass some time, then get overloaded and you have to walk really slow, then you find the guy to sell the wood to, you sell it then a dragon appears and you fight it and get some other goodies and then you take them to your house to store them and then you go back the next day to sell that sword and get good money for it, but then you feel as you must buy a dining room set for your house with that new found money so you go to find the bald dude to buy it from and spend an hour trying to find him, and when that is done it is 1:00am real life time and you need to go to bed. You lay in bed for a few minutes and then BAM it hits you. THE DOG! I FORGOT ABOUT THE DOG!

Alright guys, I have read the first 25 or so pages of this thread. I started playing about 2 weeks ago, off and on, but int he last 4 days or so I have found myself up till 2:00 AM playing this. I just need a little guidance.

I have spent a bunch of time walking around exploring, doing bounty quests and I have finished a couple of main quests. I am level 14 and my archery is around 30 and my sneak is around 40. I just started the dagger thing last night and my smithing got up to 50 real quick. I plan on doing that until I get it to 100. I currently have the entire elven armor set upgraded to exquisite and an ok bow. How am I progressing? Are my skills where they should be for level 14? Is my gear decent enough? My 10 year old son played the game through the first 8 levels so I didnt get to progress a whole lot up to that point. He spent a bunch of time dual-wielding axes. I found that I enjoyed sniping with the bow a lot more.

What are some of the "must-do" things? I am guessing I should hit up the thieves guild quests next. Where is Riften?

You want to make sure you level your combat stats at a rate general to the other ones you are maxing because the enemies you face are going to be based on your level. If you level things like sneak and smithing too fast you are going to have a lot harder time with your foes. You are fine now, but you don't want to have smithing and sneak at 100 and still have your archery and armor skills at 30 or below. Do some short range work as well to build up your armor stats.Riften is:

I currently have the entire elven armor set upgraded to exquisite and an ok bow. How am I progressing? Are my skills where they should be for level 14? Is my gear decent enough? My 10 year old son played the game through the first 8 levels so I didnt get to progress a whole lot up to that point. He spent a bunch of time dual-wielding axes. I found that I enjoyed sniping with the bow a lot more.What are some of the "must-do" things? I am guessing I should hit up the thieves guild quests next. Where is Riften?How a

I just hit 14 (with a similar build) and I haven't found the materials to smith up a set of elven armor yet, so I'm a bit jealous of your gear for the moment. I'm pretty worried about overleveling smithing/enchanting so that my player level goes up to 20 or so, but I still have the combat skills of a level 14 dude and end up getting stomped in dungeons so I'm finding that I have to force myself to avoid smithing/enchanting for big stretches at a time. My sneak/archery skills are right near the same level you are, so either both of us are behind where we should be, or we're in a similar spot. I just made it to Riften but didn't start the theives guild quests. I've been picking up some other random quests along the way. I'm finding that when I get to a new town I tend to talk to a ton of people and pick up dozens of random minor quests, then spend the next few gaming sessions clearing them out of my quest log. By that time, I get bored of that town and move onto another. Then after a couple sessions of that I'm bored of the quests and just take a long walk to a new city where I repeat the process. It seems like a pretty fun way to see the world, and it works for me so I'm all about continuing this way, until I get an itch for the main quest again and work my way back into that.

I still can't decide to go light armor or heavy armor route. It matters, because if I change my mind it's a waste of 3 or 4 perks. I'm tempted to go light because it makes actual sense, but I am also tempted to go heavy because it will provide more armor. Then again, if I'm sneaking a lot......ahhhh

I have both leveled at around 90 and wear them together. I like my forsworn antler hat on top of my daedric armor and gloves. I wear light armor boots of brawn to help level it.There is a cap on your armor so I'm still pretty close to it even without the extra perks. I do have all 5 in the first category for both though.

I followed this technique as well, and did various quests lines up to a point where I needed to come back when my skills were improved, its a good way to see what type of skills you want to improve. Def do the theives guild quest as that is my fav so far, and now has me thinking of starting a thief character, with Speech, lockpick and pickpocket skills leveled up to make cash and purchase training in other categories.

you dont mind not getting your armor bonuses with the mixing? or does it not matter when you get that high in leveling?

it doesn't matter. If you plan on getting either one to level 90 or higher you really don't need the "matching set gets you 25% bonus" or whatever perks. the only thing I have leveled is the first perk on each tree that allows to level it 5 times.

I did like 4 bounty quests in Whiterun and got a bunch of gold. I purchased the elven items there. I used the smithing skill to upgrade them. It was easier than I thought it would be. I also was able to purchase the house and got the bedroom, living room and alchemy set upgrades. Whiterun really is a good starter place to get a good base for your character. The bounty quests are nice. There are usually only 3 or 4 guys to kill and the loot is pretty good.

When you do the main quest line and sneak into the party don't you kill some guards who are wearing elven armor you can loot?

Has anyone played this with no archery and no ranged magic? Can't imagine having to kill everything face-to-face.

I did for probably the first 30 hours or so, completed a couple of early "main" quests and all of the compainon quests with either two handed weapons or one handers and a shield. I have to agree, the close up "kill" scenes are a nice touch to playing up close. Now progressing to more of an archery guy as I move through the thieves guild quests..... once I get into the Winterhold quests I'll likely only use magic, or magic and "light" one handed weapons like daggers if someone gets too close, or I'm low on magic.Not playing any "pure" style by any means, but try to stick to what the guild I'm in would "approve of"

I also was barely use magic and archery, tho I'm starting get fond of sneak archery shots. But mainly I was tanking it through missions with daedric armor and hammer. I'm now switched to two hand hammer with stealth (no muffle shoes) and light armor for agility. I have not leveled hardly any magic but the lower tier of destruction and restoration, although making gold out of iron using less alteration is intriguing.

Try saving game before hand so if you say screw it, you can just load from your previous save and hold on to your lock picks.Disclosure: Familiar with the lockpicking system from Fallout 3/New Vegas, so I usually open Master locks within 10-15 picks attempts w/o any perks

Me too. I've managed to pick a handful of low level locks, but for the most part I don't even try anything above a novice level lock.

thats actually good, every lockpick you break levels up your lockpicking. you prob need to enchant some jewelry/armor with increase lockpick to get a better chance. or there is a an awesome item from one of the quest that you might like. lets just say I'm not giving that thing back for a while.

Use a light touch. If you start feeling any resistance, back off and try another spot.The easier the chest, the bigger the zone in which the lock will budge at all but even for Master-level locks, there's no more than 6-8 zones so you should be able to identify the general area where to unlock it within a few lockpicks.

what's the actual technique you use? You turn the pick (this is the thing that breaks, right?) first, and then turn the stick thingy in the same direction you previously turned the pick? Early on I had some success not moving the pick at all and just opening the lock with the right stick, but I'm guessing that was more an exception than the rule.
