General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (2 Viewers)

I'm skeptical. One of the things I love about the Elder Scrolls is they aren't MMORPGs.

You don't have to sink countless hours into them farming for gold or getting items or gaining skills to keep up with all the tubby, diaper-wearing losers who sit at their computer 36 hours straight trying to make up for a life of rejection by dominating a video game.

Which NPC has the most gold to buy my crap? As a mage, I have no use for most of my loot.
Off the top of my head (just started Oblivion for the first time after a long Skyrim run) you can double dip at the Whiterun Blacksmith because both the husband and wife have money.

Get the Master Trader perk that allows you to sell anything to anyone. It also gives all merchants a nice amount of gold (2k or so). I rarely pick up items (except uniques, or nice shiny stuff to enchant) since potion selling is easier and more profitable.

Gold becomes unnecessary fairly quickly if you go down the enchanting route. You can double up on each item and completely blow away most everything you can find.

In addtion to the husband and wife blacksmiths in Whiterun, you can also hit the guy across the street. If you still need more, head to the market for even more buyers.

Or join the Thieves' Guild and run deep into their story. The woman merchant at their HQ has 2K and will buy anything.

You can alternatively train up your mercantile and invest in shops.
Ahhh the Thrifty Shopper build. Powerful stuff.
I've never bothered with Speech because I thought it was a useless waste of perks. You can sell stuff. So what?

But I can see dumping all your Smithing perks after level 50 or so and reinvest them into Speech....I guess. Problem is, at level 50, you should be so wealthy you don't need the money.

In other news, I fired this game up again the other day. Going to play survivor mode and see how long I can go without dying. Last time I tried I made it to level 8.

I just hit level 27 with my mage and bought the expert level destruction spells, (including the cloaks and walls which I don't find very useful). I have about 19,000 gold still and a bunch of loot I'll likely never use or disenchant.

At my level, I only have 400 mana, and can't dualcast my expert spells; need about 2 more destruction magic levels to get to 75, then I'll get the expert destruction perk for half price casting

Have any of you learned the master level fire storm spell? UESP says the magic cost is 1426!! And the blizzard spell is 1106.

Is that accurate? Even with the Master destruction perk, that's 723 and 553 per cast!

Tell me about "survivor mode". I'm intrigued.

You play until you die. Then you start the game from scratch again.

No. Don't bother. The master level destruction spell to get is Lightening Storm. It's one of the most powerful offensive weapons in the game.

This. It isn't an actual mode on the game, but rather a way to play that makes it way more challenging....and you way more cautious.

Not everyone roleplays. I view smithing as the most overpowered skill in the game just ahead of enchanting, and both are gamebreaking imo. Build my characters as characters, if I make a thief he will have some speechcraft and mercantile, with mercantile you can fence your goods to merchants you have invested in.

I see your point. Though I don't think one or the other is overpowered; it's the combination of both that makes you Superman.

Hmm, this is an interesting point. I haven't played this game in eons but, when I did, I had the master blacksmithing and enchanting thief. And you are right, it doesn't make much sense. Maybe some enchantment could. But blacksmithing? For a thief?? What master pick-pocket would risk his nimble hands and fingers on a blacksmith's hammer? It was probably a pretty non-RPG way to play it on my part.

I never really smith or enchant and my characters still becomes Superman around level 30 or so.

I know what merchants' gold replenishes over time so I can sell more stuff to them periodically. But what about when a particular merchant has a bunch of gold from me buying from them? Does that amount eventually reset to a default amount also? Or does the game remember that they have surplus gold forever?

I believe after 3 days in game time it will revert to their normal balance. This number can be increased by investing in merchants.

Has anyone maxed enchanting to the point where you enchant all armor for zero cost spell casting? Sounds like a lot of work.

Its how I play.

Work Alchemy, Enchanting and Smithing first

Make your God suit for any magic class and be a tank mage. Then play the game

Peace

It varies a bit.

But if you are starting, use the carriage to go to each town and then you can set up a rotation for buying and selling.

Peace

I'm sure this was probably posted already and I just missed it, but...

One of the changes with the March patch was that the Legendary setting means that you do 25% of normal damage, while the guys you're fighting do triple. That's from 50% and double on the Master setting.

IOW it takes you from a 1:4 ratio to 1:12 -- makes an enormous difference. Everything is quite a bit harder.

Well I finally got my master destruction perk and have all 3 master destruction spells. They take forever to cast and aren't real practical so far.

Yeah, with the "stacking cheat" of alchemy + enchanting you can get some pretty ridiculous things going on. zero cost spells plus the one inch death punch -- it's fun for a while but after a while running around like that in god mode gets old.

And it's not even really that much work to do.

Though as you say, it takes much of the fun out of the game. That's why I loved the modifications I made to the system so you perks in some things like enchanting and smithing each require a certain level, and then I also lowered how good self-enchanted items are so you can't get to zero-cost casting.

I really need to find a free weekend to rebuild that computer they are on so I can play again.

Complete Elder Scrolls Anthology coming out for $80.

Quite a bit if you've already played most of them but cool nonetheless.
This is only for the PC, correct? I didn't see it specified in the link.
Yes.
Newbie question-- do games for the consoles have controllers?
You can use a 360 controller.
How do you do that?

How is the gameplay with it?

You can get a wired 360 controller that just plugs into your USB slot and it should be plug and play at that point. If you want your controller to be wireless then you need to buy an adapter to receive the signal and send it into the cpu via a USB port. I use a wired one, works fine. Occasionally it may goof up and I have to unplug and replug, or reboot to get it to reset properly, but it was rare.

In game, you just select 360 controller instead of keyboard and you are good to go. It's one or the other though, you don't get keyboard and controller both if you choose controller.

There are mods that you can use to give you extra functionality off the 360 controller that are very worthwhile. For example, I remapped my controller to remove that intermediate menu you get and instead mapped button combos with the same bumper that normally does sprint, to take me straight to the skill, inventory, etc. I also doubled the number of quick inventory slots I had where again I use a bumper and the D-pad together to get a second set.

Finally finished rebuilding my desktop and have been trying to recover Skyrim. I actually still had my Skyrim install as that disk survived, which helped a fair amount in remembering what mods I had liked, as well as even being able to recover some of my customized settings from them. Most importantly for me, didn't lose any of the work I'd put into making my own modifications to the game system, level rates, perks, etc. Though I did lose my spreadsheet where I'd kept a log of what all changes I'd made and how things worked now. At least some of it, like the perks, I changed the perk descriptions so it tells you in game that the perk requires level 20 now, or whatever.

Curious if anyone has used the Warzones mod to create actual battles between the various factions in the Civil War storyline? Any experiences with it? From looking at it I think my system could probably handle it fine in single monitor, but I'm a bit worried about performance running on multiple monitors.

Any chance this gets released on the PS4 and I can carry over my current guy?

Please say yes!
No. You'll have to set your PS3 and Skyrim disk on a small wooden craft and set it on fire, crying quietly to yourself as it drifts away. Sorry.
Well that blows. I'm going to have to hook the PS3 back up and atleast beat the game.

I also just read that the Elder Scrolls Online will be an extra $15 per month for the next gen systems. F that

They plan to do away with the monthly requirement before the end of the first year.

Also you will be able to trade in game stuff for play-time-cards with other players.

*I have a couple accounts in the beta.

Just bought a new pc and fired up a new game. Mostly mage w dagger for assassination. Not doing the main quest. Just wandering. So much better with the better graphics. Amazing how fast you can clear a location with something other than bow.

I keep thinking of firing it up, but never do. Playing 4 different characters to level 40 may have burned it out for me. I have one who has done everything, then a barbarian Orc (aka. Big Gay Orc), an arch-mage, and an alchemist. The only style left to try is a shield-bearing warrior. But I never get the interest up to bother.
