General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (2 Viewers)

Since we're all here, which one of you guys can beat 686 playing hours?

To put that in prospective, that's basically a full February.  On a leap year.

Legacy of the Dragonborn is the best player house mod. It's a big house in Solitude that also functions as a museum. It tracks what quests you do and adds halls for them telling your story and also has hundreds of display cases for you to display all your uniques and other items. As it gets bigger you'll also notice people coming to visit the museum. It's pretty cool.

Oh man, you guys are missing out on dual weapon power attacks.  Even just dual hand magic attacks are fun.
I've done dual magic  - in fact i usually have either a spell or a shield in my left hand. I've been attacked lots of times by opponents wielding dual blades an it's looked pretty bad### - not sure why I haven't ever tried it. Itching to get back into light armor and sneak around again.

I haven't logged as many hours but it amazes me how much I don't know about this game. I was looking for some quest info and started browsing through the page, and learned all about shadowmarks. Apparently there's a book you can read that explains these markings the thieves guild uses to communicate buildings that have loot, nothing, danger, and so on. I started looking and these are all over the place. Who reads the effing books? Other than opening them up to see if it's a skill increase I never really have. Apparently you can learn valuable info.....that you can easily finish the game without ever knowing existed.

perhaps someone talks about this, but I usually have the sound off and don't really read the subtitles all the time.

Is there actually stuff in the end game that you need that much money for, or is that just for fun and seeing how much you can get?

Buying all the non-DLC houses and the upgrades runs around 80-90k probably.

After that, there isn't a lot to spend money on besides spells, training, and items you spot for sale early game. Once maxed you can enchant better on your own.

This is part of why I put in level limits into my game so Enchanting perks requires level 10, 20, 30, etc as they get stronger.

This is basically all the pots I thought I would use that I didn't. Then I'd just put everything in a dresser because I was out looting and that became my potion spot. Just illustrating that your better off selling that stuff early when you can actually use the money. Every level you can train up to 5 points in a skill, max that out every level if you can. You might spend all that money if you do that.

Eh, seriously stupid question, but you guys talking about mods and whatnot - that's for PC?  That's not something that would be doable on xbox 360 right?

It has been for PC so far, not for consoles.

But with the upcoming new remastered version, PS4 and Xbox One will be able to use mods.  Same as they are supposed to be doing with Fallout 4. Not sure on older consoles.

I need instruction on how to get dual weapons (specifically the left hand blade) assigned to a quick key. I have two swords assigned to a number each (say 1 and 2) and if I'm holding a bow and want to quickly switch to dual blades, hitting 1 then 2 just sets the right hand weapon and then switches the weapon. The left hand stays empty. With spells you can just hit the same number again (say heal is on 4) and you get both hands with a heal spell. But with a weapon, hitting the number again switches between arming and empty hand.

Do I need to wait until I get the Dual Flurry perk in one handed weapons?

I think that is the case but I don't remember.  I've always had my weapons/spells on mouse control so I also wasn't using keyboard shortcuts.

Bad news is I had to start over, good news is, I wasn't insanely far and I think I had dabbled enough to get the idea of most of the concepts of the game. Taking some advice and trying to be a little more specific with the character.  Actually liked the Conjuration stuff that I had played with, so I guess I am going with a dark, sneaky, necromancing archer assassin - if that even is a thing.  Majoring in archery, conjuration, and sneak.  Minoring in Illusion (just enough to get silent casting, but that's about it), and anything I need for the dark arts - poisons, enchantments, etc.   I used the "cheat" with the archer in Riverwood to beef up archery early, sneak everywhere.  Beefed up Conjuration using some raise zombie spells and Bound sword a little.  Mostly was having fun Sniping somebody, raising that person from the dead, having them attack/distract others while I wait in the shadows and snipe them.  Now I have the bound bow, and I am in love, but still working on my necromancing as well.   I met with the lady from The Dark Brotherhood, went to Riften (haven't started with the theives yet), and did the first little bit at the college.  Plan is to work on the college stuff a little while I improve my sneak before doing the other two.

Still don't have a house in this game either, and I have heard rumblings online about stuff walking away at the college dorm, so don't want use that yet either.  Now that I am streamlining what I am doing, I don't lug so much around either.  Loot, improve a little, and sell for now so I can get up my coin.  Almost caught up to where I was before, but my focused skills are improving faster obviously.  Also taking my time and poking around/talking to people/trying to close out quests so they don't pile up in my queue.

Probably a little easy at the start with the archery cheat and the bound bow, but I need all the help I can get with games usually.  I am making myself put very little into health (don't think I have done any yet), so if somebody does get to me it's over fairly soon.  Makes me want to make sure that doesn't happen.  Next time I do this I will force myself to do 0 archery, and either try all mage or an orc destroyer.

I dont think a cheat is needed for archery.  Things eventually become ridiculously easy for a sneaky archer

I could see that happening.  I assumed I could turn up the difficulty if need be, or just do more magic and take foes out one-handed, or take away any armor I have for more difficulty.

In general, I am not great at games and die a lot, so thought if I did this I could tweak it as needed.

Yes I'm level 7 I think, have not done a single Training session, and I have a 30 archery which gets the zoom and critical perks, and I one-hit kill or close to it most things I stealth shoot.

Archery at the very high levels is hard to advance though, takes a ton of hits to do it.

I'll also throw out there... I'm not a fan of doing Training because it makes you level up so much faster. I think the game is less fun at higher levels because if you spend your perks wisely you end up a lot stronger than similarly leveled NPCs.

Actually, maybe I need to just start upping the difficulty at higher levels, dunno. But I'm a fan of slowing down leveling rates in general. Actually I did that a bit in my custom mod though I'd have to go look to see which skills I slowed the leveling rates of.  Archery and Restoration are fine as they are (Restoration is too slow even), but a lot of others I like to advance more slowly.

I love sneaking around and using a bow as my main weapon.  As Scoresman said, it eventually becomes an extremely powerful weapon, although early on you should probably keep a sword or other weapon handy because using a bow as a beginner and while being attacked can be tough.  I also like conjuration, especially once you can conjure those dremora lords.  They are powerful so they are useful, but they also trash talk all the time so it's funny too.

"You see those warriors from Hammerfell? They’ve got curved swords. Curved. Swords."

Still makes me laugh.

Sanguine Rose is nice for this if you don't want to focus on Conjuration.

You can unlock houses but IIRC you still have to purchase them. One of the DLCs let's you build your own house, there is a cost but IMO it's worth getting the DLC for this reason alone. What you can build in Hearthfire is so much better than what the game gives you access to so I think it's worthwhile to get it and use it early on if you can.
and you can start growing your own alchemy ingredients

I probably have close to that much time into the two characters I played, can't look at the save data anymore (360 isn't hooked up) but I am sure it's close. :nerd:

If I get the PC version right now, I get the upgrade for free later, right?

Will I have to re-install the game or will it be an update?

Very very tempted to jump back in right now, but I don't want to start a new game in October. And if I have to pay for Xbox One, I might as well get the PC now if I can just upgrade and continue playing.

Hmm.  It looks like I have a bounty on me x2.  I know something popped up b/c I killed one too many Orcs as I was stealing ebony ore from some mine I stumbled on, but don't know who I pissed off for the other one.  I was walking around to get to a quest for the college and was jumped by 3 tougher than normal mages.

I played a sneaky archer type the first time I played this 4 years ago. Decided to go with a two-handed Orc brawler this time around. No magic, arrows only when I have to (like to hit targets for puzzles). I'm about ready to go on a rampage if another jerkwad, racist Nord calls me a filthy orc.
