The Noble Eightfold Path (Classic Punk before Nirvana) - LAST CHANCE

Farewell triple play for Poptopia

404.8 - Adam Schmitt - Can't Get You On My Mind  (Poptopia)

The Power Pop pride of Champaign-Urbana

404.12 -TSAR  - I Don't Wanna Break Up (Poptopia)

Another band I draft a lot but if I haven't picked them in 400 rounds, I should be OK.

404.812 - The Bangles - Going Down to Liverpool (Poptopia)

This is only the fourth song by the band drafted, although Manic Monday was picked for the Prince Channel and 80s on 8.
Hate it when my picks are at the bottom of the page

Just to add context, when I referenced my in-laws and their limitations, I meant in terms of projects and plans. They have always been the type that had to have 5 projects and 3 trips planned at all times. They hated moments of peace or rest. Unfortunately they are now both in their 70s but still trying to act like they are 50.  Starting projects they can't finish which makes them frustrated or angry. Even worse they finish those projects and injure themselves along the way. As many times as we all say, let's meet for a weekend and just relax and hang out, they always have to have some projects to do. This year, their project is they bought a house down the block and are going to flip it.

Hall of Very Good (RRHOF Omissions)

Emo Imo

Strings and Things (Songs with string sections or orchestral backing)

Round 304

Harmonicalooza

Was going to pick some Magic **** and his Lickin' Stick but it was already drafted. Was going to take a different track but then remembered that this album has a harmonica on the cover so figured I'd find something useable.

Aerosmith- Temperature

Just heard a cool story while watching the KC/Pitt baseball game. Thread favorite Geddy Lee is a huge baseball fan and collects baseballs, like thousands of them. He has an autographed ball by every member of the 3000 hit club,a ball from Kaufax's perfect game and donated over 400 signed balls to the Negro League museum.

All the cool kids are doing multiple Poptopia for round 404, so I will too.

Round 404:

Poptopia

A. Me and Mia -- Ted Leo and the Pharmacists

Deserved to be a big hit, might have been if he didn't have this habit of signing with financially distressed record companies.

B. In Other Words -- Ben Kweller

Rundgrenesque vamp. I could have also used this for This Is the End, but I've got a ton of other possibilities there.

C. I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better -- The Byrds

The modus operandi of many of the early power pop bands was to do their own take on The Byrds. So we'll take some of the source material.

A. Love the pick, my niece is named Mia and so we enjoy that song. I was looking at it for another list.

C.  Love to see The Byrds get drafted.

@Ilov80sor whoever:

For NASA Mission Control, please add Space Junk by Devo and replace Wings' Venus and Mars with Venus and Mars (Reprise), which is what Krista actually drafted.

For The Noble Eightfold path, please add You're a Prisoner by Death and Public Image by Public Image Ltd.

BONUS.k4  Poptopia

I'm going to start with a couple of songs from my favorite Chicago band, who also happened to be good friends of mine.  "Heralded by many as the banner carriers of power pop for the 21st century, few bands have displayed such a mastery of pop songcraft on a debut release."  It's hard to choose a couple of them only, so I might take some in other categories.

Frisbie - Paid In Kind

Frisbie - Martha

Yep. I even tried to change the Zombies song I took to this one, actually, but I remember it not taking. Playlist moves on, son, catch it by the door. I love this track.
I wonder what happened.  I don’t remember it.  Would’ve pegged you to take a Zombies song here, too.  Glad I chose one you love!

Round 405.xx

Category: The Noble Eightfold Path

Song: Hope

Artist: The Descendents

A song that was both a progenitor of pop/punk and/or emo imo, whichever you'd like.

That sentence could have taken three slashes in a row, just like a good punk.

405.8 or 12 - Verbow - New History  (Strings)

90s Alt-Rock band Verbow were one of the only bands I can think of that had a cellist as a regular member. The craze didn't catch on as none of their songs have more than 8000 streams on Spotify but I liked how they integrated the instrument into their sound back in the day.

Frontman Jason Narducy went on to be a long-time collaborator with Bob Mould and cellist Alison Chesley has done some interesting stuff under the moniker Helen Money.

Oh, nice one!  I used to see them play regularly at Schuba's in Chicago.

They were a massive commercial force in the '70s and one of the best live bands of the era, and they tried some things almost no one else at the time did, such as adding Latin elements to R&B and making a "horn section" out of saxophone and harmonica. Yet they're not in the R&R HOF.

Round 406:

Hall of Very Good

The Cisco Kid -- War

Came across something interesting today that I'll post as Classic Rock Trivia Tuesday.

Which classic rock album can the following instruments be found on?

-chain driven gong

- autogyro

-Rinaldo whistling machine

- Peabody chromatic converter

If no one gets it I'll post the answer in the morning.

Back In Black?

Round 406.xx

Category: Emo Imo

Song: Ian Curtis

Artist: Thursday

We listened to the open sound your voice projected on the radio dial
Lie with me I said and lying's what she always did and always will.
All these thoughts keep leading back to him.

And no signs from Cinema.
No city skyline.
No paper scraps and no unfolding at five o' clock
Your voice skips as it always did and always will
All these thoughts keep leading back

It's the light from your sunless room
Scattered in pieces all around you.
Recession of these thoughtless forms
Reciting every line as a way of life and a way of death in time
We heard Ian Curtis kill himself again in your bed.

In these twenty four hours we stretched into a room
Filled with "Heart and Soul."
*This is the way*
Step inside and march in the procession of empty hearts.
*In salvation*
Love has torn us apart
It's a part of me a part of you
In time we're falling apart together.

I’ll guess Santana - Abraxas.

406.8 or 12 - Foxing - Rory  (Emo(Imo))

Instead of twisting up words you just sat there in silence
In wind burnt homes sighing rays from a sunset
And all I could hear was the sound of the wasp nest
My head made a home for the hum of the insects
But my hands shake and shudder at the mention
Of half hearted reasons why we'll only be friends
I swear I'm a good man
So why don't you love me back?
