Gerris Wilkinson (1 Viewer)

Via Yahoo :"Sep 20 Wilkinson says his knee feels fine, and there's a chance he could take starting weak side linebacker Kawika Mitchell's job before long, the Giants' web site reports.

Recommendation: Weak side linebackers make a fair number of tackles and occasional picks and sacks, so Wilkinson is worth keeping an eye on in deeper IDP leagues. "

So they dont say what kind of chance he has of taking Mitchell's job, anyone know anything else?

Whats Wilkinson worth if he does take over for Mitchell? Is he talented enough to be an every week starter at WLB in fantasy?

Via Rotoworld/Daily News:

"Gerris Wilkinson has a chance to take over as the Giants' starting weak-side linebacker in Week 3.

Kawika Mitchell has missed too many assignments in New York's two losses. Wilkinson, who has been sidelined with a knee sprain, will practice fully this week. At worst, he's likely to rotate with Mitchell in Week 3.

Gerris Wilkinson is the favorite to start at weak-side linebacker for the Giants this season.

The Giants' weak-side LB isn't a hotspot for tackles, but he'll be sent on blitzes often. Kawika Mitchell had 76 stops and three sacks there last year.

Careful here. With Mathias Kiwanuka back, unless Michael Strahan retires and they move Kiwanuka back to end, Wilkinson may not play on passing downs as Mitchell did. That will limit his tackle and sack opportunity.

Landed him in rd 40.15, one of the last LBs on the board w/ a job...Personally, I don't think Strah is going to retire, he would of announced it by now. Hes still in Great Shape, but I doubt we offically know anything until the last week of TC.

Wilkinson is a tough guy to have confidence in. On the one hand he's incredibly athletic and a guy who flashes potential in limited spots. On the other hand he struggles to stay healthy to the point I wouldn't be surprised to see the rookie Kehl beat him out.

Jerry Reese has now come out and said WLB is Wilkinson's "job to lose "--well after the acquisition of Danny Clark. Ive held on to this guy for two years now after watching him rip it up for Georgia Tech against the U of Miami, so it better pay off. He did really well in their week 16 game vs. NE and even covered R.Moss, so athleticism should not be the question on him but maybe he just needed time to mature.

Getting hurt in '07 Traiining Camp did not help Gerris in his bid to lock down a job early and locals of the Giants bulletin boards assereted this in their prediction that the G-MEN would not draft Dan Connor in early rounds, that they had faith in Wilkinson. So far, it has played out this way.
