Not sure I would go "severely", but I would agree about the other part.

I know this has been out for a while but I just want to reiterate what an eminently watchable movie this is. There aren't many movies that I watch over and over again when they pop up on cable, and really all of them are classics, but this is one of them. The story is great, it reminds me of old 50s or 70s material, maybe Twilight Zone, not sure. And the race issue is just context, background for the character, it's just natural, the sort of stuff that would make any person's antennae go up. It's just excellent story telling.

finally saw this a couple months ago and one thing that i didn't understand is why the grandparents wanted to live their lives as hired help?  or were they just doing that as part of the charade to get Chris?  Didn't really seem necessary.

Also, Chris and the girl were together for like 5 months, right?  And she had like 50 or more dudes before that?  Why/how could she have put such a time investment into Chris?

I don't think it was 50. I recall about 15-20 photos in the box, including the black girl.
