Giants and Jets want 2014 Super Bowl in their stadium (1 Viewer)

If the geniuses who run the NFL capitulate to the ego freaks in NY on this, then there is no longer any reason NOT to host the Super Bowl in the greatest pro venue - Lambeau Field. Bring the Super Bowl to Green Bay first.

Yeah, I can't think of a single reason to send everyone to NYC for a big party but not to send everyone to Green Bay for one, first.

:coffee:in NYC, there's ice skating in Rockefeller Center amid the majestic skyscrapers. In Green Bay there's ice skating on a pond by Waffle House.

Dude rag on Green Bay all you want, but I will not stand for making fun of waffle house!

:coffee: they should have put a roof on it if they wanted a Super Bowl ... no way a Super Bowl will ever be played in that stadium

you might be right...it's awfully cold in early February here in NJ..but, one thing that makes me believe it *might* happen is the incredible success that the NHL is experiencing with the Winter Classic..people love outdoor sports in the winter..the NFL Experience and corporate sponsorships can setup shop at the Izod Center, adjacent to Meadowlands. You can walk from Giants Stadium to the Izod Center. You also have the new yet-to-open Xanadu Complex in the area, as well as the Giants indoor training facility. you have the Jets state-of-the-art training facility nearby..Mass transit, hotels , etc...you could also set up shop at the Prudential Center in Newark, Javits Center in NYC, so plenty of areas for indoor activities..only the game would need to be outside..I've heard the horror stories about the SB that was played in Minnesota year's ago, the car accidents, the hard time people had getting to the stadium..but this isn't Minnesota..we barely get more than 3-4 'good storms' per winter...and there's about 1 million more things to do in this area, than in ,say, Jax, or St Louis, Indy, etc..I don't see why the NFL wouldn't want the biggest stage to be the host for the biggest sporting event..

As to the question of putting a roof on it, the State wanted the teams to do it (and have the NFL pay for it) but the Giants and Jets did not want it.

I'd put the likelihood of this happening at about 75%, based on the fact that the NFL is even let the bid go forward. The other cities bidding are "usual suspect" types that will have no problem getting the bowl in a different year.

The Winter Classic angle is interesting and I hadn't really thought of that before but there is some truth in the sense that it demonstrates that a large scale event can be successfully held in the cold weather (though not remotely the scope of the SB).

The allure of NYC has always been there, there's also the key factor that there is now a train line that goes directly to the stadium - not sufficient enough as a full answer on a snow day, but something that does give another means of getting to the stadium.

I would expect it to be a rare thing - probably one time. But if it were successful I can imagine more cold-weather type sites (real Philly, Washington, not Green Bay, Buffalo) get added to the potential SB mix once every 5 or 6 years.

Good I found an article confirming this. This is a good one from 1997 about the potential of Northern Cities hosting the Super Bowl:

Good Article Link

Philadelphia made a bid for Super Bowl XXI to be played at Veterans Stadium, but lost in a close vote to the Rose Bowl and Pasadena, Calif.
As I recall the vote was something like 15-13 for the Rose Bowl. I had read article about it (I long ago can't remember where) but it told the whole story of how the Vet came seriously close to getting awarded the game (it involved some owner infighting I believe).Could you imagine a Super Bowl played on that Green Pavement at the Vet?

since 90 percent of us, if not more, actually only watch the super bowl on tv, what do we care if they play in the cold? its the megabucks corporate sponsors who will fight this. they want to party somewhere warm - or at least not buried under 15 inches of snow - during the super bowl week.

Pretty sure they can party in NYC.Is it ideal? Probably not. But partying 9 times in warm-weather cities and once in NY is probably more fun than 10 times in warm-weather cities.

This is true. Nobody goes to Times Square anymore on New Year's Eve.-QG

Even if I'm on my couch watching I love to see games in cold weather or at least outside. That's why I'm bummed about this year's playoffs were we might not have a single game in the NFC played outdoors and in the AFC we probably get one game from the Pats and Bengals at home with all other games in domes or warm weather. That blows. As for considering people who want to party. NY, even in a blizzard, is a far more entertainment attractive option than Detroit and Jacksonville which have fairly recently hosted SB's.

I hate this crap with the NFL refusing to have a Super Bowl where it is cold. I can see they don't want weather making a game boring and unfair but games are determined in the regular season due to cold, rain, or snow so why not during the Super Bowl? It is infact unfair to not consider having the Super Bowl in anywhere but Florida or a dome. A lotta talk is about offensive teams having to play in bad weather. So a team can win a Super Bowl because they avoid bad weather. Ugh. Stupid.

I think you're forgetting about the wildcard round. The Eagles are likely to host at least one playoff game, and the Bengals and Pats are likely to be the home teams in the first round of the AFC. So that's 3 home games, in addition to possible AFC or NFC Championship games in Philly, NY, GB and Denver. Longshots, but you never know. I agree, though, that this year should feature mostly warm weather games, and that is a little less exciting.

I did not forget anyone. Wildcard teams don't host first round games and unless a slew of upsets happen they don't ever host a game. I said it's possible the NFC won't have an outdoor game. Depends on who wins the NFC East. If it's Dallas than they we are looking at no outside games or at least in Dallas it could be outside but only if the weather is nice. I guess it's possible for the Eagles to win the NFC and both the Vikes and Saints to lose their first games but that seems so unlikely. For GB and Denver to host a game would require so many upsets it's unfathomable since both will be no higher than the #4 seed but you are right in that it's technically possible. The Bengals and Pats I did mention as being at home and it's not out of the realm of possibility that one of them could get another game at home but I think that would have to involve the Colts losing their first game at a minimum. So if I'm looking at this realistically I'd say we are looking at 2-3 games outside not counting San Diego. I'm down about this. I love the cold weather/snow game and I hate dome games.

The superbowl has very little to do w/ pure football, its all about money. The 2 Championship games prior to the SB are better fottball games than the SB IMO.

Who cares if a bunch of insurance executives sit out in the cold, maybe, just maybe, they'd be motivated to dump their tix to real fans, like The Situation.

Super Bowls routinely get denied because of a lack of available hotel rooms. I'd imagine that are usually precious few NYC are hotel rooms available on any random weekend, much less super bowl weekend. And I have little faith that northern NJ is in any big hurry to run out and build a fleet of Comfort Inns...

So your saying that one of the most visited cities in the world, where 47 million tourists visited last year, perhaps the most visited city in the US (NYC is #1 on some lists but it depends on the definition of "visit") isn't equipped to handle some visitors?Seriously? That's what your saying?

Btw, all snark aside, you know NJ has like 8 million people - 2/3 of which live in the Northern part of the state? We're not exactly lacking for accomodations on this side of the Hudson either...http://travel.travelocity.com/hotel/HotelA...348637837712859

Lots of nice ones right on Route 3 in Seacaucus, where the nightlife will come to you!

This is why Lambeau can't ever have a Super Bowl. It sure isn't the reason NY can't
