Giants Jump Shots after a Sack (1 Viewer)

I didn't see the NYG-ATL game, only the highlights on NFL Network. They showed after one of the sacks on Vick, like 4 or 5 guys did some jump shot thing, I was curious to know if there was a flag thrown for unsportsmanlike conduct for excessive celebration. And if there wasn't, why not, doesn't this fall under the leagues rules for this.

no flags. it happens pretty quickly, so there's no "excessive celebration." it's really not much more than a high five, only much funnier (esp if you ever played HS or Intramural hoops, and watch the big football guys come in and clown around).

I've seen flags thrown for much less than that, and yes, like 99.9% of football fans, I think the rule is ridiculous. I tried searching for the actual rule, but didn't have any luck but did come across this:

The new celebration penalty will be assessed when officials determine that "two or more players engage in prolonged, excessive, premeditated or choreographed celebrations."

Since they weren't all grouped closely together, maybe the refs just considered it a spontaneously synchronized action of 4 individuals?

I too was surprised that it wasn't flagged. However, Strahan was interviewed about it during pre-game warmups. It was so pre-meditated that they may have cleared it with officials prior to the game.

It will be interesting to see if they continue with the celebration. They may have gotten away with it for one game, but the league may inform refs that the celebration is a rules violation for future weeks.

Strahan was talking about the jump shots on "Best Damn Sports Show" last week. He said it was all for John Salley and how he could shoot over him.

They've been doing it for a few weeks now. I'm sure the No Fun League will crack down soon enough. I fully expect a "No post-sack group celebrations imitating other sports while wearing blue helmets" rule to come down from the NFL Rules Committee this summer.

It doesn't need to be a new rule. It's just a Point of Emphasis.

It wasnt one game they have done it all season, it's just noticed by some fans now because the defense made so many plays yesterday.
