Giants looking to acquire Jon Beason from car (1 Viewer)

That's all I have seen thus far. My speculation/hope is that giants would send nicks to car. Instant upgrade for newton and nicks.

I can't see them sending Nicks for Beason

Probably a late round draft pick

Reports are it would be for a late round draft pick. No way Nicks is part of the package to CAR unless they send picks with Beason. Nothing to see here IMO.

It does make sense to move nicks though. He's in a contract year, they probably won't resign him, he is slumping, whining, and disgruntled. Randle has stepped up. They suck this year. They don't need him.

Not saying he should go straight up for Beason but or the rt price they should move him.

No. Nicks is still a talented receiver and if they have any hope of turning the season around then they will need him to be an element of that. Him and Eli have a chemistry that cannot be easily replaced, and they don't have the depth at the position to afford the move. You are mistaken.

He is being held back by the ineptness of the Giants offense as a whole just as much, if not more, than his own performance. Additionally, they could franchise Nicks at the end of the season if he (and the team) turn it around.

I suppose that Cruz should also then be held back by the ineptness of the offense? But somehow he gets it done week in and week out.

Nicks is a talented but pouty, oft-injured wr that isn't performing at a high level rt now. I agree that they don't have a lot of depth rt now and I'm not saying they are gonna throw in the towel but coming from 0-4 it's pretty tough I make any post season noise and management knows that. Especially not with the state of their defense and o line.

This year is a prove it year for nicks. He is not proving it.

beason is pretty much done...

doesn't seem like the giants have prioritized LBs in years...

but beason wouldn't be the answer if they did...

there is sense in getting something for nicks if they definitely aren't re-signing him, but not sure that is where they are organizationally...

they could do way better if they were inclined to move nicks... I don't think they are.

* so they would move nicks because he is oft injured... and target the even more oft injured beason??

Report: Giants, Panthers close to deal for linebacker Jon Beason

Its been a busy week for trades in the NFL and another appears on the verge of completion.

According to Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com, the New York Giants are closing in on a deal to acquired linebacker Jon Beason from the Carolina Panthers for a late-round draft pick.

A league source tells PFT that Beason is traveling to New York tomorrow with the deal hinging on Beason passing a physical with the Giants.

Beason started the first two games of the season for the Panthers before being replaced by former Giants linebacker Chase Blackburn for Carolinas Week 3 matchup with the Giants. Beason hasnt looked to be fully healthy this season but the Giants are desperate for help on defense. The physical wont be just a token part of the deal as Beason is coming off micro-fracture knee surgery last year.

The irony in the move is the Giants elected not to bring back Blackburn this offseason, who played his first eight seasons in New York. Now the Giants could be trading for the guy Blackburn beat out for a job.

Probably just a draft pick. It's too hard to value a player for player deal right now.

Nicks went 5-114 in Week 1, and 4-83 Week 2. In Week 3 the Giants offense was absolutely abysmal and Cruz didn't "get it done", going 3-25. With that in mind, this past week (#4) is the only one where Cruz can be said to have gotten it done while Nicks did not. He's not performing at a high level, but it could be easily argued he only has one bad game that could be blamed on his performance. He's not going anywhere.

this is a very key point here

THis would be a "makes sense" deal. Probably the typical late pick kind of thing. Would like to see it happen, fantasy and otherwise. It would be nice to see if Beason has anything close to what made him a great player for a few years.

What kind of moronic thread is this ?

There ya go.

It's not a trade that will truly help the giants, and it might help the panthers depending on what they use that pick on.

I don't like it. Their defense is in shambles and it's not just at the safety position it's everywhere. Their once dominant d line is now sub par which is the biggest problem. Their dominant d line was always able to somewhat mask the weakness of their secondary by pressuring the opposing qb incessantly.

this

And I wouldn't be surprised if he fails the physical
Yeah, while Blackburn is solid, he is not a world beater, and it didn't take long for Beason to lose is starting role. I agree they will go over him with a fine-toothed comb, and if they do that, I don't see how fail to find something concerning.
Well, Beason "used" to be one of the top LBs in this league. He was up there with Willis and the likes back in 2009. He moved to OLB in 2010 and was still great but obviously recorded less tackles than he used to at MLB. He tore his Achilles in 2011 and missed the whole season. Then in 2012 the Panthers drafted Kuchley who is obviously also now considered up there with Willis. Beason's still young and hopefully could possibly get back to form. But who knows, all I know is that he used to be a Top 5 NFL LB so I like the move for that reason and that reason alone.

As a Panthers fan, I really hate to see Beason go (if he passes the physical), but it was inevitable. The injuries have piled up on him, and when he's been healthy enough to play, he simply hasn't been good enough to earn a return to the starting lineup. With Jordan Senn and AJ Klein both being solid players behind Kuechy, Blackburn, and Thomas Davis, he's the odd man out.

With all of that said, Kuechly took his starting MLB job, where Beason is a significantly better. If Beason can prove healthy and take over the MLB job in New York, he could be a surprisingly effective player. During his first season with the Panthers, he started out as an outside linebacker and struggled (not at his current level though). It wasn't until he moved to MLB that he became a great player.

As a Panther + Beason fan and McCoy owner...

I'll just say I wouldn't mind if Beason cracks the starting lineup vs philly this week.

(KFFL)The New York Giants have agreed to deal a late-round draft pick to the Carolina Panthers for LB Jon Beason. He must pass a physical first.

Nicks for Beason ... r u crazy!

Beason hasn't played in 2 years and still needs to pass physical.

It would be a late draft pick somewhere in the 5 - 7 range

from a fantasy perspective, nothing but good for owners cause playing is better than not playing and if he can't pass the physical then you can just cut him and be done with him.
