Giants | McQuarters agrees to terms

Mon, 13 Mar 2006 15:27:52 -0800

John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports free agent CB R.W. McQuarters (Lions) has agreed to three-year, $6 million deal with the New York Giants. The deal includes a $2 million signing bonus.

Didnt see this posted yet. From the two wills to Madison and McQuarters. There goes that glaring weekness.

Koya, aren't you a Bears fan? You think that RW McQuarters takes care of the Giants weakness at cornerback? I would think it adds to their weakness.

Giants fan here. Two dead bodies would have been an improvement at CB.

RW = big plays and big toast. No in between with this guy. Always goes for the INT.
Im not that high on him, but a couple of my friends seemed excited when this was in rumor. As a second CB who won't be breaking any banks, doesnt seem so bad a deal. Besides, our past CBs were toast AND couldnt hold onto a ball if it were placed in their hands.

I think Corey Webster will beat RW out for the starting spot opposite Madison
RW was the nickel behind Dre Bly and F.bryant in detroit. But they both got hurt and he was their best corner at that time. Mooch loved him, tell me all I need to know.

With Detroit loosing alot of their Depth in the secondary with Goodman and RW gone, I could see them taking Huff/Jimmy Williams at 1.09 now.

Decent signing...did not over pay.....imo. As a Cowboy fan, I have to say the Giants are the team to beat in the East. Good off season so far.

I thought one will was good

I think they have a hole at G now though

One was ok. I might be overly sour on them to be honest.Still wouldnt mind if the Giants took a young DB if a good one falls to them in the draft, though I do not see that as likely now.

Right now, I really am not sure what the Giants will do draft-wise since DB was such a weakness, and not nearly so much now. The DBs dont have to be great, just be ok and not terrible.

If they can sign Lavar, the G-men will have upgraded an already tremendous pass rush. That will make an improved secondary look even better. The only glaring weakness then would be at defensive tackle.

I like this move. Not a lot of cap space at all. Another vet who is an upgrade over Will Allen.

Accorsi is doing very well. Now, if he can sign Arrington to a resonable deal... :pickle:

Koya, Will Pete is the goods. Will Allen couldn't cover a jar.

NOT happy losing Clancy. He looked very solid last year.

RDub is a solid player as long as he's not overexposed in a starting capacity. As a nickel or dime corner, backup safety and punt returner he adds value. When put in isolation or man coverage he might as well mark a great big X on his chest as a target for the offense to pick on.

On another note, the NFC East is adding a lot of talent in free agency so far and once again figures to be anyone's division.. but it won't come easy.

All signs in Giants land point toward a nickle spot for RW, btw. That is what Ive been hearing in the news and on message boards.

Very happy Giants fan here. It's nice to see my team try to solve a weakness and not pay through the nose to do it. Decent contract, some talent, and definately an updgrade on both fronts from the slugs that were there last year.

He's a decent nickle back and a good returner. I think it's a good signing. I wish Detroit could have kept him.
Hutch: Good ridance R.W.!!! How many big plays did you give up, or drop for that matter?R.W. hey its tough trying to cover great WR's like Ricky Proehl.

Will Allen played the nickel position. I would expect Webster and Madison to start on the outside with McQuarters taking the nickel spot. He's also strong in run support, something that Madison is not, and since the nickel back is on the field more then a third LB, that's an import facet to consider. He gives the Giants some depth at CB, something they sorely lacked last year, and gives them more versatility in the draft.

He's not a star and not being paid like a star. He'll be a role player for the Giants and at a good price.

A good, cap friendly signing.

And you're not even mentioning his above average returning ability.

Also, the Giants added S Quentin Harris yesterday. I remember him from Syracuse, but do not recall him as a pro. Solid backup, or what?

I saw that. Can't say I know much about the guy though.

Quentin Harris is special teams specialist... And provides a small measure of safety depth.
thanks! Can't have enough of those Syracuse Special Teamers!
